Hopefully we get to look at some titles like 1P Gears 4, Halo 5 and FH3 if they've been patched and maybe a look at how some 3P titles such as BF1 perform with the dynamic resolutions.

6am PST, so 9amEST, the fuck. DF you guys couldn't do this shit at like 5PM GMT or something? So I can be awake....jeez.

At the same time though, as with any product exclusive review / preview etc, I expect a natural bias. So I'm always wary of how positive things can be / lack of criticism etc. On the other hand, its a show of confidence to get DF involved for a tech analysis, and seemingly the exact audience to put it in front of, who are concerned with console tech specs / perf between systems

This is about specs. It can either do things or it cant. Its hard to bias facts.

Hope no-one spoils it between now and the reveal, let's be fair to DF.

Yeah agree 100%. As someone who usually likes leaks and the most amount of info to be out there I hope this doesn't. It's so close at this point it would be a pretty shitty thing to do to DF. It would be one thing if the reveal was like 3 months out but it's 2 days

That's how I feel too, but there is this little part of me that says they are using DF to show real results since maybe the hard specs won't convince people what the hardware can do.
I was going to be like, why your glass so half-empty, but now you've filled me with doubt.

Why derail me bro.

So does anyone else take that post to mean that maybe XO games will see more of a boost than people might think?

Cool, never owned an Xbox but new hardware is always fun. But regarding the reveal, what if it is something like:

"Microsoft gave us the definitive hardware specs, so we built a PC similar to that and will see how that runs!"

Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that Sony dropped the ball when revealing the PS4 Pro. It just didn't work out - especially if you were at home streaming.

Exactly! As others have noted, Digital Foundry did a better job at selling/explaining the PS4 Pro for Sony. This seems to suggest that Microsoft paid close attention and didn't want to make the same mistakes.

Yeah, I reckon they'll have their own event before E3 to unveil the box itself and announce a price.

With this there is even less change of that imo. Then they have a event for just showing the console and say a price. Thats not really a good idea as they wont show games also. As they said E3 will be for games. They will start the show at E3 with the reveal right away and a price i think. Like the S reveal really.

Mate, the hype around what this console has in it is real.

Just revealing the specs through DF shows a pleathora of confidence about it.

It's a game console, why would they not be confident? Ya'll are treating this like a game review for some reason.

Why Digital Foundry? That's kind of weird.

Not really. If DF say that it does good stuff then that speaks directly to consumers and the social media message that comes out of DF is easy to relate to.

GAF can go round and round talking about memory bandwidth and I get lost so I don't know what a pure spec reveal would do.

Well let's see what happens. Still have my old ps4 and an Xbox one s...With positive news I may sell them both to fund Scorpio after all.

So how can we expect digital foundry to stay unbiased once the Microsoft money starts rolling in?
Lol, this is of course an exclusive deal so it will be "positive" of course, but doubt beyond that.

And you can always trust me to be honest, Ms, Sony, Nintendo wouldn't pay me in buttons ;-) lol

MS must be extremely confident in its ability if they have chosen DF to show it off for the first time.

I'm not jaded enough to think that they have paid for a good impression but they also can't want to risk much negativity on its first reveal. In my head that can only mean that they are extremely confident in its ability to showcase something special.

Phil: "So it's playing at a smooth 60fps at what resolution?"

Digital Foundry: "... 4K"

Phil: "Upscaled?"

Digital Foundry: "... native"

Phil: "You're god damn right".

Really?

It seems like this case is MS giving DF the console to run tests/benchnarks or whatever to give people a good tech preview. It's no different from when a company gives media a review copy or review hardware.

I go to digital foundry for impartial advice about which games, consoles and peripherals to purchase under the impression they ain't getting bank rolled by a manufacturer of said content.

Well considering the hate the X1 recieved due to it's specs, then mixing in that they're only revealing this through DF, you know it's quite something.

I can't see why you're being so negative nancy here.

Can't wait to see what happens. I remain cautiously optimistic. I only bought an Xbox One S a month ago so I'm not exactly itching to replace it as I've got a PS4Pro anyway but let's see where the hype goes and/or what games it has. I think it'll be hard to justify if it's too expensive unless Microsoft has some aces from first/third parties.

They are the go-to people for console games analysis, especially game enthusiast which this product is geared towards.

They also did a technical deep dive into Xbox One, PS4 and PS4 Pro prior to launch. They were the people with Microsoft, who talked about Xbox One being more balanced than PS4 at the start of this gen. They've been analysing console games for a long time now, so there is really nothing weird about it.

Is this an event sponsored or backed by Microsoft?

Or are DF just getting a sneak peek and the rest is up to them?

Because they are great at technical analysis.

I guess I'm crazy since I figured we should be wondering what games they will be showing on the system rather than the technical aspects of it.

Hey dude, don't lose the hype. We can remain hyped. Even if the hardware isn't EXACTLY what we expect, MS wouldn't be revealing the news this way if the hardware doesn't deliver 4K gaming as advertised.

Hype! I've held out on XBO and XBO S, so Scorpio is pretty much a guaranteed purchase for me. Can't wait to see the goods!

The only game I expect to see here is Forza 7, running at a rock solid 60fps in native 4k.

And it's probably gonna look fucking incredible

It's not gonna be light on specs. They specifically worked with DF on this for a reason and Phil has openly said E3 will be about software not the hardware of Scorpio.

I think they will save the price for E3 but I expect we will know a substantial amount about the hardware on Thursday

price, design and launch date will be for E3
technical specs and details will be this

So happy that they are going through DF for this. They must be really confident in showing what the system is.

Im really happy for the DF guys aswell. They do such great work and this is a massive get for them.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I am coming around on DF doing the spec reveal, but I will miss the pomp and circumstance of a full blowout.

Really wonder what he means with huge positive surprises and the findings. You can be damn sure DF goes into full detail about their findings. Definitely think there's components in there that are much more powerful than expected. Whether that's Ryzen or not remains to be seen. Excited.

Why Digital Foundry? That's kind of weird.

They are the standard for this sort of thing. Anyone who owne's a One S, knows what a sweet machine that is. I expect nothing but the best from Scorpio, and I will blop down any amount for it. (within reason)
