Overwatch |OT9| There is no Cow Hero

You can report people via XB1 but it's been a long time since I've been notified that MS have taken action against someone who was trolling and even that does not stop them playing, it's most likely ends with a chat/messaging ban. I think more people would report if it was built into Overwatch, something that would result in the offender not having access to the game for a while, or limit them to quick play/arcade only.

EDIT:

Hopefully it's sooner rather than later but that is good to hear. There are people seriously ruining this game for others on console for whatever reason.

You can block people on Xbox. That will make it so you're never matched up with that person again. It works wonders. I have blocked every single leaver I have ever encountered, I will block trolls too if they are deliberate about it.

What control scheme do console Mercy players use? I feel she has too many things needed to use with both sticks so the dpad and face buttons no good.

I click L3 for guardian angel
L2 for jump/glide
R2/R1 beams
Square to switch to gun. (No need to reload as switching back to staff reloads her gun, but I've gone with L1 for switching as well.)
Melee R3

I found it too much of a pain to Phamercy with L1 being my guardian angel. L3 allows me to maintain my floating while continuing to GA.

I'm gonna get on as soon as I get home from work today (around 6:30 PM EST) because I want to get in on the GAF winning train. Also I'd like to not end my season under 2600 and I never play comp solo anymore.

Man. Every game I lost today was because DPS was so bad and they locked out Tracer/Soldier.

And they couldn't kill the fucking Winston, two games back to back just free reign.

Holy shit this Pharah keeps dying to Reaper and Junkrat. I cannot today.

I had switch weapon on R3 for months, melee on L3. Just switched 'em the other day and it's super hard to adjust, even though R3 is melee on almost every other char. GA on L1 and jump on L2.

I've stopped playing competitively for months now and normally I just do quick play and arcade. I want to hop back into competitive play. Is there any tips you guys can share? Should I always play with a group or can I solo it and do well?

I just want those sweet gold weapons.

Unless your duo partner is on an alternate account several leagues below their main, solo is the best way to climb.

If you care about your rank, you should never queue in a group of more than 2.

I would've completely agreed, until this season.

Maybe my sample size isn't large enough, but the only way to really describe people in solo queue this season is "don't care" if it's not throwing it's just awful picks, laughable team comps, no communication. I'm not sure what changed because a few months ago I still would've said solo or duo queue if you're serious about ranking up.

The way I see matchmaking is this:

There are games you're supposed to win, there are games you're supposed to lose, and there are games that could go either way.

The way to climb is by winning the games you're supposed to win and winning most of the games that could go either way. Can't do anything about the ones you're supposed to lose.

Some games you're going to win without even feeling like you did anything, some games you're going to lose feeling like you played like a God, but what matters are the games where it's fair and you can bring just enough impact to turn the game into a W.

I think we just have more newer players every season and this season might be the worst of the bunch. Even when I tried duo-queuing with Pooh, it was pretty bad. No different than a QP match. I would prefer a minimum 4 stack at least now. As long as we have majority, we have a higher chance of winning as long as the 2 randoms are decent.

Another good reason to switch. Screw bad DPS players.

In all of these games I let people play DPS. And they never got picks. Even this most recent game, Widow insisted on staying and never switched. I lost 100 ELO for today.

I'm just gonna lock DPS and refuse to switch. I'm done playing roles my team never takes advantage of.

Yup, when you solo Q, choose who you're good with first. Trying to hope the random is just as good as you is a bit of a gamble.

I agree, but not sure how it pertains to solo vs group play.

In fact six stack vs six stack cuts down on the troll factor almost entirely. And those are the games where it really feels like win, lose, or either way.

Sometimes we are just outmatched. We talk about what we could've done better but for example yesterday we played against a smurf Hanzo who was just legitimately way better at the game than we were. Didn't really have a realistic shot in that game.

Sometimes it's an obvious win.

And then the either or games which seem most common. And we've had way more success in those games recently because we are more willing to adapt our comps.

The six stack this season feels like what Overwatch should be, rewarded for making proper switches winning games that could go either way, and just playing well. In contrast solo queue this season feels like you'd be lucky to even have a game that could go either way with all of the other factors (throwing, trolls, etc.)

I'm afraid of solo Q this season much more than ever. I will never even attempt to deal with it again. Been having such a good time with our GAF group that it's hard to go back.

Zarya who gets no kills even with a nano boost and then fires her only ult in four minutes at a Genji and gets us wiped. My entire progress of yesterday has now been reset.

2cp is really our downfall lately, why do we lose so much there?

Is it because I'm on your team? It must be a coincidence.

I hate to do this, but I'm blaming our randoms. They barely talked or listened, except for that one salty guy who picked Widow when we were losing on Hollywood.

From our past experiences, people overthink what to do there too much. Some people take a while to pick a hero and then try to formulate a plan way too late. There's too much hesitation and that needs to stop.

My suggestion: Pick a route and rush it together. People shouldn't be questioning each other for the entire time we're in the spawn room.

Doesn't really fit our playstlyes. Especially the Rein shield matchup. Yesterday you guys wanted me and Biscuit to be the DPS so we both went with our best, but Tracer and Pharah aren't really good at breaking a shield. So we lost the break shield battle every time. I was amazed when I went Hog and Soldier how quickly the once impenetrable shield became just a minor nuisance.

On KOTH and payload it's a bit easier to get away with that. But on 2CP we probably need a Soldier or Hog to just pump reliable damage into shields. We also need to get better with ult usage, we transcend into sound barrier way to often.

But hey, overall things have been going well lately, and two CP will always suck. So we don't need to rock the boat too much. The only improvement I think is when we look at our team comp in those games to make sure we have a "this guy can melt shields at the choke" pick.

Last nights dive on hanamura was a mess, I was playing Winston like someone who should have went to sleep instead of turning on overwatch.

Don't forget that a Junk can help you break through chokes too. you can always switch off after you're in if you happen to die.

One day I will finish persona and come back to this.

The release season has been brutal with super long games, I'm gonna be so rusty when I come back, lol. Still didn't even do placements for the current season yet.

From games I've played I feel like we do fine on Anubis because we always have a plan of attack and know how to execute - plus we always defend pretty well on point B if push comes to shove.

Volskaya I feel like we don't ever have a concrete plan and end up dallying around the choke points for far too long. Hanamura is just a coin flip depending on the other team's composition - we usually either roll or get stuck and can't ever break through.

I think also part is when we were playing in like season 3ish, we weren't as quick to change heroes on the fly, which is an important part of breaking the line on 2CP. 2CP is basically all momentum in one push and winning one (or two) team fights decisively. So if we stayed rigid and just kept feeding into a defensive team we basically lost a good chunk of time.

Whoever plays tanks in 2CP needs to take the lead and push in or else the rest of us will be stuck at the choke. So yea, I blame the tanks. ;)

Just had a match where my internet quit. My team lost the 2nd point but left the other team with :43 on the clock. By the time I got back, 2 people left. A 5v6 was feasible for first Anubis pt but I guess they didn't wanna do that.

Oh well. Only lost 20 SR.

The Kings Row dive was so beautiful. Maybe that should be our default comp on attack when we need to capture a point. When it doesn't work we can go back to a more conventional lineup.

So after like a week I finally made it to the part where you face the 4 orissas on legendary PVE playing with randoms. We got one of them down but the bastion took us. Our comp was zen/bast/rein/orissa. All 4 of us decided to stay together to try again but inexplicably one of them decided to go soldier and I didn't catch it in time to stop the game from starting. As expected, we weren't able to get as far.

Last night was a terrible night for the DPS randoms :( Mechanically all of our randoms were 'aight', the problem is none listened and they got kills wayyyy too late (like after we died). If you are struggling getting kills during team fights, DPS is not for you... I can already hear them arguing "bububbut I got gold damage!".

Me and you were on Pharah duty all night, it was not fun. I only really struggled with that one Pharah on Lijiang, I kept her out of the air as much as I could but she would target you or me first every time. We had Genji as a soft counter, but I'm not sure who he was trying to kill, it definitely wasn't Mercy he was going after.

You do know what tanks are for right? It's no different than me suggesting DPS needs to kill the most or healers need to keep the teams alive.

There's nothing worse than a scared Reinhardt at the choke. Even worse then there's a speed boosting Lucio and Ana behind, while teamed with Zarya or Orisa.

It was a joke. I'm GM on PC, I know how to play the game.

This is the main reason why I usually play Rein when attacking on Hanamura or Eichenwalde. Seen way to many chicken Reins that will literally keep shield up, hide when it's down and repeat steps for nearly the whole 4 minutes on attack. I like to charge in with team after spamming "group up", especially so the Zarya can bubble me or Hog knows to get his hook ready. Nothing worse than a random Rein not having the balls to charge in.

It's particularly frustrating at Point A when the spawn is right there. So you might die but hey, there's more time to try another push. Chicken Reins and now chicken Orisas are just annoying.

2-0 as Mercy these last few days, what more do I have to do? I lost track of Ned's pharah in koth in favor of soldier tag along and keeping tanks alive.

I have won one of my last fifteen games. I've had four games where people have left and countless displays of trolling, racism and sexism.

There's something to be said about the fact that the worst part about this game is the way that the people that play it can ruin it.
