Yeah, the goal should be to give beginners/casuals a fun and easy way to learn, understand, & play a game. Things such as a proper tutorial and and arcade mode.

James Chen said this before and I agree. Smash does "tutorials" better than any fighting game. Things like "break the targets" are an amazing way to teach players at least one aspect of the game without it obviously being a tutorial. While games like Xrd obviously have amazing tutorials, more fighting games need to think outside the box like that.

SFV wasn't as successful as it should of been because of the gameplay and controls, it wasn't successful due to lack of content.

And this game launches in less than 5 months.

Can't say I'm hopeful that it's going to be a fleshed-out package.

How important is this change, really.

People keep throwing around the phrase "dumbed down" but to keep this in perspective, we're talking about flicking your thumb down twice and hitting a button as opposed to rolling it to the right and hitting a button.

How much smarter is the one than the other?

Two things: 1. I am surprised that this will hit in 2017 given they have announced a release date. Things could change, but I doubt it now. 2. At this point I'm giving up on a Switch release. I was really hoping for it. If I get it it will be on PC since I don't have PS+ anymore.

Balancing two different sets of controls sounds ridiculously convoluted when they could have just used the same scheme that Street Fighter has had for over 25 years.

I don't disagree, but the FG market is shrinking to a freaking pinhole.

Somebody has to try something, even if that means FGs as we currently know them might be at risk. I personally don't think what makes FGS worth playing is necessarily in how specials are executed.

I can say this right now: DP inputs are gone. Ryu’s Shoryuken is done with a down, down motion.

There are even more dumbed down gameplay changes that I can't talk about right now, but you'll hear about everything in a few days.

In some aspects, yes. But in others competitive Smash is hard to get into because the game is really bad at explaining mechanics. The Smash 4 training room doesn't even work properly or take into account rage.

Funny you say that considering character specific target tests haven't been a thing in Smash Bros. after Melee, lol. Smash 4 didn't have Break the Targets in general, opting instead for that Angry Birds clone thing.

It's a side neutral input for autocorrect DPs, which makes cross ups less powerful.

It's not how it used to be.

That fact alone is enough is often enough for some people to dig their feet in, kicking and screaming.

Personally, I'm all for seeing how it goes before judging.

It's Story Mode launched....4 months after the game came out

It took them a month to release Character Trials

It took them 3 months to release the in-game Shop

People still complain about the lack of Arcade Mode and poor Quality-of-Life devices in the game

And Survival Mode is shit

There was nothing for casuals at launch, and there continues to be little reason to do so.

So is everyone sure that this isn't another Simple Mode mechanic? Because that's what it sounds like to me.

I'm confident that there will still be an option for traditional inputs.

Thats what he said.

Double input DP fucks me up.

It took me a week to get used to that inputs because I like certain characters in SSF4..

lol. Dash is FOR SURE a button if we're getting double tap moves for specials.

lol

Where is my Punisher, Neoxon?!

Be glad that Punisher still have a chance, unlike She-Hulk.

This smells of Marvel moreso than Capcom.

Like

A lot.

I do think they might try to follow what Injustice did because I'm pretty sure Marvel noticed that Injustice probably broke like 5M sales, so they want a pie of those cash.

mvci now a party game

Welcome to our club now! ;)

Do you guys think this "dumbing down" stuff is because of Capcom or Marvel (or both)?

Maybe both.

I can't tell if this is necessary in order for the FGC to survive? it does make me wonder a game like sfv which is obvious they made the barrier easier has pushed some people to purchasing the game or not (which we know is no) idk if eleague has even led to some purchases?

These are testing times.. I got some many conflicting feelings at the moment.

It's not really that important at all, in the grand scheme of things. As mentioned before, certain games like Melty Blood have Down, Down + Attack as a DP for some characters as it is, and it works well for a game like that which still thrives on various movement options, character-specific subsystems and the like. And hell, Marvel has been slowly but surely turning more "anime" by each progressive game, that this just sounds right in line with that.

I'd be much more concerned for everything else we're going to read/see/hear about, honestly.

This looks kinda good? I mean I don't trust them after releasing SFV unfinished and the pre-order shit is bullshit but I like that Ultron and Sigma are this fusion.

1) nobody who can make actual changes will read the thread
2) you'll get juniored by your third repeat thread
3) stream monsters will do what they already do: nothing

1 & 3. Stream monsters will continue not buying shitty games. Like how they didn't buy SFV.

2. Do you not remember the days when there was an SFV shit post thread on the front page every day?

This was a good way to extinguish some hype. I can only hope this change in control scheme brings in more people than it scares away... Because that'll definitely scare away some people.

So they went to the drawing board and said "You see how well Marvel movies are doing? We want all those consumers to play our game and not the 1.1 million people that bought UMvC3!"

You are gonna get a HUGE backlash, but I also remember there being a HUGE backlash when they announced the default control scheme for MvC3 and we all survived.

I'm personally still excited maybe I can play in my bed now casually.

SF5 is still here, though. Still getting played. Still getting updates and content.
Clearly, someone is buying that content, or they would have stopped spending the money to create it months ago...regardless of what stream monsters say.

Capcom you want profit from casuals, just do the following:

1) give them their arcade mode
2) attack time mode
3) survival
4) world tour with rpg-esque element
5) story mode incorparted with in arcade mode with some anime cutscenes.

That's all you need to do.. i don't give a shit about your shitty dlc practices because it's a loss cause and it's 2017.

For the love of god stop making things easier and easier for the upcoming gen of gamers.. lord.

This is just the first change. It's not something that's being done in isolation.

I don't normally go into Gaming-side since that's where conversations go to die.

And I'm willing to guess that most of those threads were done by different people, which doesn't counter the point I made.

I think I need someone to hold me.

If they take DP away from us.

WHAT WOULD BE NEXT?

NO MORE DASH BUTTON?!

NO MORE AIR DASH?!

NO MORE TRIDASH?!

It's end of Marvel Vs. Capcom franchise!

I don't give a shit about all those modes.

All i want is to do some awesome moves and combos without having to put tons of hours into the game.

I bought a fightstick especially for SF4 and couldn't even finish the fucking tutorial. Shit was just too hard.

This as well. If the well hasn't dried up yet, then Capcom obviously will keep going like they're doing right now.

And I thought MVC3's control scheme was dumbed down...
Now we miss mvc3 days

Sounds to me like you just don't wanna play fighting games, or can't be asked to actually practice them.

If Capcom wants to make the game accessible they should add more control schemes, instead of making it simpler and dumping it down for everyone.
