Yakuza 0 |OT| Yes, you can start with this one!

My first Yakuza, and I think I'm inlove. I like how small and compact my open world town feels. Everywhere feels immediately identifiable because of it's size restraint. All the places, npcs, and side-quests are easily accessible, I love it!

I also really like how it plays. Kinda blurs the line between linear and nonlinear. I don't feel like I'm checking off objectives and shit. Everything just feels like it plays out organically. Even the random brawls feel unique each time.

I don't know if it's it's arcade-like nature with all it's flashing lights and explosive over-the-top combat. But this game feels like a solid side scrolling beat em up in a narrative focused open world game.

I'm only on the second chapter and have only played it for a few days, so I'm still struggling to write down WHY I like the game so much. But I do!

Edit:
And side quests that actually have some meat to them. Even when a quest I find is nothing more then a fight, they're at least interesting (mostly funny) to listen to.

Thanks! Jeez 76 hours in now and I'm only 60-65% of the way through. But the side shit is so much fun. Fuck.
I'm ~150hrs in, up to chapter 10 or 11 (out of
17?
) and am at around 45% of game completion.

But I have almost all S in the real estate minigame, though. And I have about 40 billion banked :)

Man, same here. That's how it grabbed me, everything just seems so fluid. And the writing has me hooked, so even if I don't think a substory is interesting, I'll do it anyway.

And the combat reminds me of Die Hard Arcade so much, I think that's a factor too.

Holy shit you have so much money, I completed the S rank and decided to all of the side quests and as many completion list things as I could. This game is amazing.

It's not that hard :) There's some equipment you can wear that brings the Mr. Shakedown return to 120%. So if you get to a billion (which you should be collecting each cycle of the real estate minigame) you let yourself get robbed, load up your zap gun and health, do that a few times then defeat shakedown for a tidy return :) And I usually find that after I collect from RE, get robbed, defeat him, I have another billion to collect.

I'm sure others have completely maxed out the amount of money you can get, too. I think it's 999bn.

That's amazing. I don't think I have that equipment but I'll look into it in the future. Especially for majima I have a much harder time making nearly as much money with him.

I just got to the catfight stuff an don't get how it works. Just more random chance like casino games and other stuff. Theres gotta be a more surefire thing to get big bucks in this game?

Catfight is completely random.

If you wanna make money then invest into Kiryu's real estate activity. That'll eventually net you close to 3 billions in every 5-6 minutes or so.

So it'll take another 350 hours for 100%. The game that keeps on giving. >.<

For reals? Why make a big show of inserting this catfight thing into the main story then? Ditto for the real estate stuff for that matter. Part of the jank issue I'm having with the game is how they're pushing silly side stuff into the main story. Really stuck out with the breakdance thing in Majima's story to.

btw I have tried the real estate thing and re-read the manual multiple times but still don't get some of it. Is there a good guide out there for how to do it? Or even saying what the manager/security icons/numbers mean?

For Security and Managers, don't bother with their numbered stats too much, they'll rotate between every collection anyway. I mean, you can then also rotate your employees to always use those with the current highest numbers but at a certain point I stopped doing that.

The important stat is the number of stars. For security guards, the more stars they have, the less likely will enemy gangs hold up your collection progress (Whenever that happens you gotta go to the spot marked on your map and beat them up yourself.)

For managers, the number of stars is simply their health for money battles that sometimes happen after you collect your money. (Money battles are basically stupidly simple button mash minigames.)

Their number of stars can drop over time, that's when you should change your active security and managers.

Now the most important employees are your advisors...basically before every collection round you choose an advisor for each one of your real estates which will then gain EXP and level up. The higher it's rank, the more money you'll get, also, your share in the area will increase whenever you level something up and that's your ultimate goal.

The symbols here aren't explained in the tutorial at all, because they just expect japanese players to know their definition without taking foreign players into consideration.

Basically:

X is bad

Triangle is okay

O is good

Double O is just the best

What this means, if you want to level up a food place, better pick an advisor who has a double O in the food category.

Even more important are their stars and cost though.

An advisor who has a triangle in food but costs like 40,000,000 will likely yield better results than an advisor who has a double O in that category but only costs 2,000,000.

So there you have it, pick your dudes with good stats and collect money, it's pretty simple.

Nah, I've 100%ed it at 120 or so hours. Guess it just depends on what you focus your time on?
Absolutely. Once I have some decent bank (I think I can consider that checked off now) and S the last building in the real estate shenanigans, I'll blast through the rest of the game. Majima's mini game really doesn't interest me in the slightest, TBH.

I just spent a lot of time piss-farting around, taking the sights in and doing side quests. And getting into every fight possible because I love the combat so much.

Haha nah I knew that it was just a joke at Shaneus playtime/completion so far.

I'm at 25% after 30 hours.

I just spent an hour beating up dudes in the coliseum. It was awesome. More games with combat need this type of tournament/mini game thing.

Yeah, I purposely get into fights in the series all the time as well, just so I can perform all kinds of different heat moves!

Finally started this last night but had to stop mid way through Chapter 1 due to my download being partially done which sucked.

Really grabbed me so far, the world is so dense and packed.
And the story, wow! This is like some serious shit.
I'm still surprised how they balance comedy, humour and all the serious stuff going on.

Can someone tell me how many hours I have to go to the end of the game? I only get 2 hours every night and want to make sure I can get through it all.

I'm on chapter 14 and just teamed up with Nishiki.

You still got like
5-6
hours left.

The ending is a big blowout that lasts around
3
hours so be prepared.

It's one of the few games where I've spent a decent amount of time just walking around the streets looking at the city. I always find some new little detail.

One development question I keep idly wondering when I walk around is how they did all the lighted signs. Are they all just animated image textures, or was it someone's job to program all the light patterns?

Oh man Chapter 13 in the
abandoned construction yard. I got chills fighting the guy with the electric saw, I mean that's so insane. I love it. And then they really upped the ante by making you fight him with a group of guys. Gotta hand it to the devs, always bringing the badassery.

So are we getting a non-steelbook version of Kiwami? Really hate steelbooks.

It's not that hard :) There's some equipment you can wear that brings the Mr. Shakedown return to 120%. I'm sure others have completely maxed out the amount of money you can get, too. I think it's 999bn.
With Kiryu you have the avarice shirt that returns 120% and a skill that returns 50% combine them and you get 180% of the money you lose. The max money you can hold is 9.999..tn yen. You can collect that pretty fast and then give the rest to Majima.

Wait, really? I beat her at Golden Ball and it didn't unlock anything.
It doesn't tell you but you will see new videos on the sexy video clubs. Also, if you run into Mr. Libido he will give you tips on which characters can give you more. Majima's Mr. Libido will also give you the ability to buy the best recovery item in the game if you max out his friendship. (full health, full heat 40k yen)

You need to win I think 3 pool matches to unlock the golden ball mode.

In order to win golden ball, you need to be the one who pots the golden ball and the one who wins. If you do both, you get the video. If you pot the golden ball and lose, or don't pot the ball and win then you just get the money back which you paid to play.

If you quit midway through a match then it doesn't count.

This worked, thank you.

I finished the last two substories and they were surprisingly hard. Didn't expect this at all. 100/100 now and on to grinding heat moves.

What is up with all the people handing out pocket tissues? Is this a thing in Japan?

Yeah, that's a really common way for businesses to advertise. They hire people to hand out tissues that have information about their store. The last time I was there I didn't see it as much. People were handing out normal fliers instead but it's still a thing.

It makes sense. Tissues are useful. If someone hands me a flier, I'll probably throw it away the first time I see a trash bin. If someone hands me tissues, I'll hold onto it.

Yeah, I know. I just didn't get an unlock message when I beat her at Golden Ball like I did with other video unlocks.

I kind of wish the Mr. Libido drink had
some bad side effect as shown in his side story, like the more you drink it, the less it works, or maybe the slower you become if you haven't had one in the past in-game hour
.

My god. This game is a gif that just keeps on giving
see what I did there?

Now I'm off to buy some porn for a kid.

Where do I buy bait in Kamurocho? Sushi Gin guy wants fish.

super helpful strats!
Thanks! I'ma stick it to the Leisure King now! Kazuma's desperately in need of the money since his upgrades seem ta cost more than Majima's and he also seems to make way less through battles.

More than anything, I just loved the justification he gave himself to agree to buy it for him.
I like how the kids name went from "Innocent Boy" to "Sophisticated Boy" after recieving the mag o_O

If you want to do that friendship quickly try doing the underground vendor quest (near the empty lot). Once that's done you get a pretty good security guard and the vendor also sells dodgy fish you can give to the Gin chef.

Also for money with Kiryu try to make about 1bn, from there use the avarice shirt and the mr shakedown deep pockets perk from the shrine and farm mr shakedown having him take your cash and beating him to multiply it. To make beating them easy with Kiryu try buying some energy drinks and a few super spicy knives. Dodge his attacks and spam heat nives with the knife. He goes down pretty quick.

Heres a nice screenshot I took and am now using as my PS4s background! Such intensity for picking up a phone!

A billion sounds crazy high compared to how much I have now! The games making a big deal about having lotsa money before moving on with the plot, but a billion? Dunno about challenging Shakedown right now but the fish tip certainly helps!

Finished it today. Holy shit what a game, absolutely loved it.

Thanks to everyone who's been spreading the word about this game or I'd never have picked it up, what a shame that would have been.

I was quite excited to read up on the rest of the games but then I found out the first one has been remade. Can't wait until August now.

So I played the game constantly when it first came out, and kinda fell off it. I was wondering how much longer it'd take to beat the game if I mostly mainlined the story? Last cutscene I saw was (spoilers for I think chapter 7 or 8?)
Majima being shown pictures of a body double for the blind lady

I love how everything the characters do is approached with the same "100% effort" attitude. Saving a friend? Fighting yakuzas? Playing Out Run? Picking up a phone? same. It's hilarious.

help i can't stop listening to this OST

My guess would be 12 hours. Though I may be off.

Game is long AF but worth it.

Yeah, you are like half-ish through. My guess is that you probably have about 12-15 hours to go.

Never really had money issues. Try and invest in yourself like the game tells you. Later missions give you 300m for completion.

I lost the 5 million point Outrun challenge by less than a 1000 points... on one end thats the furthest I ever got in Outrun. On the other game why couldn't ya show me some mercy??

Hi there! :)
Please tell me thats on NG+ cause having that much money is ridiculous, nevermind for being only on chapter 5!

I love how everything the characters do is approached with the same "100% effort" attitude. Saving a friend? Fighting yakuzas? Playing Out Run? Picking up a phone? same. It's hilarious.
Yes! Everything must be done full force with passion!

Only on Chapter 6 an the moneys not exactly rollin' in! Can only invest in so many upgrades before ya hit those nasty 30 million blocks... and the ones beyond those are just x.x; Just gonna figure I'm as upgraded as I should be at this point an move on.

Looking for help with the pocket race cars.

I've finished every race including king of speed cup.
I've finished substory 42, and I have the dark purple decal to prove it.

But fighter's friendship is not full and I can't race him. He just offers the king of speed race again.
