Thanks for the tips... I've also played Snatcher.

I don't have preconceived notions about what I want in the genre, but I prefer games of this sort that have big twists or get a bit meta.

I've enjoyed all of the games in the genre that I've played, to varying degrees.

What visual novel games would you guys recommend for a neophyte?

I've only played 999, Hotel Dusk and Danganronpa.

If you enjoyed those, have you played the sequels to those games? Virtue's Last Reward, Last Window, and Danganronpa 2 (naturally) respectively. I haven't played Hotel Dusk or Last Window, but I personally enjoyed VLR and DR2 more than 999 and DR1.

Seconding every recommendation folks have made. If you enjoyed SNATCHER, 2064: Read Only Memories is also well worth a look.

Let's get hype together! That tweet has really grown, I got everyone I knew and even the website I write for to retweet it.

Yep! If this doesn't work, nothing will. That said...something tells me it will. I represent no individual company—I'm a freelance localization specialist on a very busy schedule at the moment, and any shred of free time I have is devoted to this. That said, parties have expressed interest.

It's all a question of evaluating the game and fan response now. Is it worth the money and effort? Only the voices of the Vita and VN faithful can make it happen...and lest we forget, Vita means life.

So how scary is this game, on a scale of 1(Umineko) to oh dear god(Song of Saya)?

Definitely not scary. Maybe just really, really eerie.

I hope it does happen, because it's certainly a game that can hit the Vita audience by storm with its quality. There's nothing like it on the platform.

Its not really scary but it has a eerie vibe plus there is a lot of tragedy, melancholy and sadness all around. Its great and you should jump on it. Im pretty sure you would enjoy it

Spoilers on the tone of the game. Really vague stuff.
It's not that scary in terms of horror, but it explores the extremes of tragedy and suffering to the EXTREME-
it doesn't hold back what so ever, so its horrors are of the personal variety. What's harrowing -rather than terrifying- in The House In Fata Morgana is the things that happen to many of its characters, rather than the visuals like Saya.

I guess it's closer to Umineko in that regard, but that said, The House In Fata Morgana hit me harder than Umineko or Saya ever did.

This, yeah. Fata Morgana isn't "scary".

There is no other game I have ever encountered that strikes a similar tone. It stands alone.

I honestly believe Fata Morgana can become a cult hit. It has the pedigree to it.

But something needs to happen for that, and I don't know the catalyst.

Shame, because with more vocal support, the Vita Collection could come over.

Wait for a shitty anime adaptation.

It's certainly good enough to be a cult hit.

Every time I see a new post in this thread, I wonder if there is news about the localization of the sequel. ;_;

I can't imagine any anime adaptation making justice for this one.
Most likely forced to a 12-13 ep format will most likely kill a lot lf the build up some areas do. There is some trimming they could do to some chapters but even then it will most likely end up cutting important events. A 26 episode format could work but not sure what company would do it justice

I honestly don't think it could work. The art style would never translate well, for one, and the game just wouldn't be the same without seeking a couple hours into it at a time. Not to mention that the OST would have far less time to shine, and the anime format would inherently kill the pacing: The first door takes a couple hours for example but no way it could be kept to six episodes without losing something.

It's more of a retrospective actually. Fixed it.

I still disagree with the guy or gal in the end. It is a well written story despite sometimes the pacing dragging in some parts. Some characters might not be as memorable as others but each serve a purpose which is fufilled and overall it covers different themes without spelling things out for you all the way. He is allowed to dislike it but he sounds like he is trying to be smarter than everyone else and that his opinion is the one that matters by the looks of it so its somewhat hard to take seriously with the way its written.

I just skimmed and read a few sentences here and there in the "retrospective", and this paragraph:

The plot in Fata Morgana is juvenile, and moreover it is boring. It might be dressed up with fancy presentation and distractions like the mansion setting, but in the end it's the sort of story anyone can come up with and offers no meaningful insight on any of the ideas it flirts with; if the ultimate message of your story can be summed up as "be nice lol" and you cannot muster any sort of philosophy beyond "love conquers all" (certainly a nice sentiment, but also not true in the real world), then perhaps it's time to rethink whether or not you should be writing anything in the first place.

This is such a simplistic view of the game. Also, that last comment is lol-worthy.

Pretty silly retrospective. This is a matter of my opinion, but I wonder what kinds of games this person plays. House in Fata Morgana has better writing and more personality for the characters than probably 95% of the games I've played. Most of this person's criticisms all rely on "I was bored", "I didn't like the ending", etc. Neither does this person really back up complaints with examples.

I'd be happy to see a well written critique of the game, but this just isn't it.

EDIT: Lol, didn't realize the quote mechanic wasn't working with the spoiler tag, so I had to change it.

In June, it'll be a year since I played the game. I'm thinking of playing it again, specially in anticipation for the fandisc, whenever Mangagamer decides to get it released.

Is Fata Morgana big in Japan? I know it got re-release on iphone, 3DS and Vita but is it actually popular?

That's a really nice pic.

Well... What game? I kinda want to know that before promising to buy anything. I assume he is talking about THIFM?

Oh, no, not at all. It could be anything. More VNs on Vita would be amazing, of course!

That's a tough question to answer. Going by sales alone, no, you couldn't call it "popular" in the sense that a Steins;Gate is.

However, virtually all who've played it will tell you it touched them very, very deeply, and it deserves a wider audience. I have always felt its themes and aesthetics would resonate more strongly with a Western audience.

This part I know. Still would be great to see the Vita version localized even if I dont own a vita (May buy a copy for the sake of support)

So a Requiem for innocence isn't on the ps vita version?A complete english version would be too good.

It IS on the Vita version.

Vita port has base game + Requiem + new arc with voices

edit:

He retweeted Aokage's tweet before saying this. Also, there's ANOTHER poll by LRG that's going for five more days (about VN localization, this time with the specification that it's for $40-50)!

I'm just glad that The House in Fata Morgana is gaining momentum and there seems to be a lot of people interested in the game.

This is gorgeous. I only wish Bandai Namco's new OtakuSouls game used THIS direction. Sad and gloomy instead of gaudier God Eater. GaudyEater. Gaudieter. Looks like Yoshitaka Amano meets Kazuma Kaneko.

Or I'll take a Castlevania on the Switch that looks like this.

But also I'm going to play tf out of this too

I just can't pay $40 + $12 shipping +$8 customs tax... exchange rate is hellishly bad for me right now and I'm a high school student: :(

Hope this could get a rerun in the future if it IS Fata Morgana.

I'd be incredibly happy if it happened, either way.
