Forza Horizon 3 - Hotwheels Expansion

Thanks to this expansion, I've purchased my first Hot Wheels toys in more than 20 years. Ended up with both the Forza collection, and the Halo collection. Well played, Mattel.

Apologies if its already been answered in here somewhere, but is this expansion playable from the start of the game?

FH3 has been in my backlog for a while (was an xmas gift) and this expansion is what put the game to the front of the queue. I'm very early on in the game (and loving it), but really want to play hot wheels.

If it's not playable until later in the game, I may wait in case it goes on sale.

Thanks in advance!

Are there any multiple Blu-ray disc game releases out there? The game is already bigger than a single disc.

No and this will not happen. They did a Goty edition for Motorsport 5 which included just the base game on disc and all DLC codes. They didn't do one for 6 and I'm not expecting them to do it for H3.

I thought it looked pretty darn cool but actually playing it? I'm not really having any fun with this. That's unfortunate. I just don't like the courses at all.

Really? I actually am expecting them to do it for Horizon 3. You have Scorpio launching in the fall so this just makes sense to have an ultimate $60 package with both expansions on shelves with it

Maybe but the DLC won't be on disc like the guy hopes.

I've only put a few hours into the expansion, but it's been great so far. I like how they use the wild premise mostly to softly poke fun at Forza Horizon itself. I didn't expect that approach at all.

Yeah, that makes the most sense.

And since the game already has various limited time events, from monthly challenges to Forzathons, I certainly wouldn't advise people waiting for a 'finished' version. You'd be missing out.

Absolutely incredible.

So much fun. No doubt in my mind now that these are god tier racing devs.

Probably the best looking racer I've ever seen. A real treat at 4k. Damn.

I bought a baby groot hot wheels toy for my son today, he loves it. Watching his face while he tried out the expansion last night was priceless.

Hahahah no.

Forza Motorsport 5 is the WORST GOTY EDITION I'VE EVEN SEEN (and this isn't hyperbole, I know I'm toxic and negative here and everything is the worst shit ever, but this one takes the cake).

It is literally the base game + TOP GEAR CAR PACK ONLY.

Let me write this in bold letters to get the message across.

FORZA MOTORSPORT 5 GOTY EDITION IS THE BASE GAME + 1 CAR PACK. HAHAHAHA

They never did one for Horizon 2 either
Horizon 2 wasn't the cash cow that 3 is and they also weren't launching a new console at the time. Forza Horizon 3 is probably going to be one of the big showcase games for Scorpio( along with 7, gears etc). It makes perfect sense to re-release it as a way to "bolster" the retail copies of the showcase games for Scorpio.

If they are giving the "goty" treatment to a game like Recore, they're gonna do it for Horizon also

Oh shit it is so satisfying to see those idiots who build cars with acceleration and top speed only flying off the track, specially if they leave the session right after.

Input lag still feels atrocious for me on PC. Game looks great and says it's running at 60 FPS at maxed settings but the input lag makes it unplayable.

Edit: Using Xbox One controller.

I cannot believe how great this DLC is. Its fun, its absolutely stunning to look at, especially on my new 65 inch, 4k curved, HDR TV and overall its just a brilliant idea that appears to have been perfectly executed.

I have intentionally avoided any and all reviews, both professional and GAF user reviews/impressions up until now so before I start skimming back through this thread, overall what has the word been on this dlc?

Lmaooo, this post has me in tears.

I spent north of $50 last night buying DLC for Horizon 3. Their DLC approach is confusing as all hell.

Forza should have two ultimate editions in the future:
1) With the car packs (and for gods sake include all car packs with the car pass. I'd love to drive with a Porsche but no way that I'm going to pay for the base game + two season passes + even more DLC)
2) With the expansion pass.
3) Or option three, just include both passes!

Probably ain't gonna happen. The reason they have a $100 Ultimate Edition with a car pass + a $35 Expansion Pass and extra car packs is so they can price discriminate.

People (like myself) are willing to pay more than $100 for all the content in one Forza game, and by selling a $100 Ultimate Edition + a $35 EP + $28 worth of car packs (outside the car pass, theres usually 4 of them) they can get all the extra revenue without the negative backlash of say....selling a Forza Complete Edition that comes with everything for $140-$160 when the game launches (which I think would generate a lot more negative feedback that what they're doing currently)

Or people can just learn to read.

The ultimate edition is what it said it was. Game, VIP, and season pass. Another draw was early access for the impatient hardcore fans.

People would still cry if they added like $60 upfront to the $99 ultimate addition to cover absolutely everything.

Yes, for such a classy dev, to have a SEPERATE expansion pass (even reduced) AND seperate car packs, is a bit cheap.

I probably would have a paid a tenner extra (on top of Ultimate edition) to get those in, but it does feel as if they are rinsing the brand out with all of these DLC extras.

Horizon 3 was my first title in the series and I have to agree with this notion. It's also weird that you still have to "buy" the cars ingame (the first time it's free for every car, but it's somewhat tedious) after getting a car pack for real money. Why don't those cars just get added to your garage? Also, I'm still somewhat confused about the Forzathon stuff. It seems my stepping away for a couple of months due to the poor performance of the PC version has lead to me losing out on some cars you could only get on a specific date. I'm too lazy to look up what exactly those cars were and I don't know if they'll show up again someday or if I'm forced to use the ingame auction house for that. Then again, there are so many cars in game already anyway and I'm not a car nut, so it's basically a matter of defeating my inner completionist (which is a requirement for a lot of games these days).

Apparently, they gave away a couple of Porsches for free in the Forzathons (unlockable in under 10 minutes easily) of the past couple of weekends and will continue to do so for some time. As far as I can tell, those Porsche aren't even in the Porsche pack and *only* available through Forzathons, for whatever reason. If you missed them, watch out for the upcoming weekends. You can also buy those cars from the auction house for ingame money if you missed them. I got two Porsches for 500K credits each using auction house filters, which was reasonable.

I believe Porsches should be included in the base game for the next forza games now that EA's exclusivity has expired.

Its playable from the start.

Actually, I'm not sure this is true. A friend came over yesterday and did a fresh start on his profile, and I think he needed to at the very least open the first Festival in the main game, if not the first site expansion. Which isn't bad, and gives you your bearings, but people should know what to expect.

I theoretically agree with you (and I take complete issue with the "Ultimate Edition" naming convention), but since each part of the game (core game, car pass, each expansion) has content at or above the amounts seen in other games, I can't say cheap is quite the right word, at least put against the asking price. Well, VIP feels more like a "tip" to the dev, which I hope other people understand too.

Having an "Ultimate" edition and then having later DLC outside of it needs to change, because that's totally misleading (even if details are specified in the description). I still think the amount of content in each bite is worth giving a nod.

So what's the consensus with this expansion....worth getting or skipping?

Solid "yes" from me, and a friend in town and my SO aren't normally racing players, and they've had enough fun to start up their own profiles on it.

I watched a big dumb plastic dinosaur gnaw on the side of a track for easily three minutes last night. So more or less, my life is complete.

Bought it last night hoping to play it but for some reason my Xbox decided I needed to reinstall the disc.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to jump in tonight.

People need to get over the "Ultimate" name, thinking that it would include everything. It's nothing more than a marketing term, but the description of what's included is really clear.

If you don't need, or want, all of the extra cars then simply get the base game and add the Expansion Pass if you want them. In most Forza games, that's what I do until the Car Pass goes on sale later, but for FH3 I bought the Ultimate Edition (mainly due to a great trade-in promo).

It's like listening to my father-in-law bitch and moan about Best Buy not having the best prices on everything... despite being named Best Buy.

I think when the issue made some otherwise happy buyers confused or annoyed when they realized after-the-fact (yes, they should have read the description), and the solution is legitimately changing one word (which has some history of meaning a game's complete edition), I think it would be wise for them to change it to something else. This is an extraneous word, not trademarked branding like a store name.

Man the sky and weather and lighting is amazing.

Can not wait to see this on Scorpio at 4k and with HDR enabled on my soon to be new TV.
