i7 without HT?

pls don't be i7 without HT...
It's already hard enough to teach people what i3-i5-i7 means

I suppose they get rid of the iGPU to put more cores instead, right? About time, no one uses a high end CPU and sticks with the iGPU.

Wonder how these will compare to 6700K, probably not that big of a difference to make me upgrade but we'll see.

Most likely pressure from AMD.

Will be interesting to see if the i7 range gets re-targeted towards the mid-high end or if i9 will just be crazy expensive above what i7 already is.

I hope AMD is successful, nice to see some competition again.

iGPUs always felt like PS/2 ports on modern mobos to me. Felt completely moot once you hit enthusiast series.

Yeah probably not right now, but when second and third gen start coming through and devs start designing around these things...

This is why it is very important AMD puts pressure on Intel. They have been holding back on these high-core chips, but AMD demonstrated demand for them.

This is basically just a new name for their HEDT line (what they would have called Core i7 Extreme in the past). Makes a lot more sense, to be honest, given the gap in both price and performance between the higher end models and the regular desktop i7s.

No. They do care.

If a competitor that hasn't been all that competitive all of the sudden gets competitive then you pay attention.
The list above shows they couldn't care less haha.

"Boss AMD just released a 8C16T to challenge our HEDTs"

"Yawn, then give our customers a 4C4T that needs a X299 motherboard"

Their naming since the introduction of i3/i5/i7 is so confusing to me.

Wait, do i3 even exist anymore ? Haven't heard about those in a while

AMD is introducing Ryzen 9 in H2 so of course Intel will respond by renaming their HEDT to i9. AMD will have moar cores and lower performance per core, but in that market it shouldn't be as big of a problem as in gaming, so it'll be interesting to see how things shake up. At least it should put a lot of pricing pressure against Intel. TBH I wish intel was just resting on its laurels and giving AMD the chance to grab market share. It's nice that AMD has something competitive at least momentarily, but they need a clear winner to actually get enough profits to compete in the future too.
