love this art. looks oldschool

I was thinking the same thing!

I'm actually really pleasantly surprised by this. It looks really promising.
Cautious optimism going into this.

Hopefully they can do the series justice.

How does a studio goes from this.

To this?

Unreal talent.

I don't think it's particularly unreal, I mean it's not like animators/artists get into this just learning how to draw one style. Certainly any professional of quality would know how to do a variety of styles that encompass different levels of detail.

So am I reading into this too much into this trailer by believing the show is going to be based off of Castlevania 3? The main character looks like Trevor Belmont to me with brief glimpses of who I would believe to be Sypha, Grant and Alucard.

saw this last night. pressed play expecting to cringe but gooooddaaaaaamn that art is good as fuck

between this and devilman crybaby netflix is making my animated dreams come true

Good eye, that was confirmed.

No Grant, but the rest is correct.

Really love the 90's style of animation with this. I did not know what to expect hearing about this several months ago but damn this looks amazing.

For those who doubt Warren Ellis, go read Transmetropolitan. My excitement for this series has majorly improved.

I cannot believe how awesome this is looking.

The 90's anime aesthetic is my favorite style, hard to explain why.

Hoping it's as amazing as we're expecting it to be now based on the talent we know worked on this!

When I saw the brief shot of the guy throwing out the knives, I assumed it was Grant. Watching it again now, that's clearly Trevor. It would be nice if Grant showed up in some form, though. Keep the whole CV3 crew!

He's been written out of the main cast a long time ago. Assuming they're keeping Warren Ellis' core script from a decade ago, he's not even in this adaptation.

The script was done 10 years now? What's the initial project?

It was to be a trilogy of animated films, and Warren personally met with then-Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi for his blessing. No idea what kept it in the oven, though.

Per the Bloodstained Community Manager, IGA's digging the reveal trailer.

Actually, I've looked more into this, and Ellis pretty heavily implied/outright said Grant was going to be in the other movies in the trilogy this was originally planned as.

So he probably just won't show up until later.

Igarashi's petty (aka ditching games not made by him) timeline was one of the biggest reasons a lot of people soured on him. Great stuff like Circle of the Moon/Castlevania 64 removed, but his garish turd Harmony of Dissonance makes the cut.
Oh i thought that gameboy game was considered rubbish anyways with the only salvageable part being a female Belmont and not any plot element. And Iga latter added CotM and Castlevania 64 to his timeline just as 'gaiden'games.

It was rubbish. The timeline has very little to do with why people began souring towards IGA, except maybe diehard Sonia fans. The souring was towards the perceived repetitiveness and lower effort of IGA's post-Symphony titles.

Are we absolutely sure this is going to be R rated?? I really hope not. Definitely want to check it out, but will skip if it's loaded with sex and nudity.

I was expecting nothing when yhis was first announced, this looks super neat though, and surprising to see Ellis is writing.

Castlevania III is a prequel correct, perhaps if this does well we can get Simon for the next season, do it JoJo style.

Stupid question about to be asked:

Do you think Konami is secretly making a Castlevania game with this style?

Castlevania is alive again, social media is talking a lot about the tv show.
