MS has some options, they will probably have the lowest price point this fall and best looking games. it could go like this.
*3rd party games play best on the Xbox One Scorpio*
*play the best 3rd party games for only $149*

IMO thats better then having two mid tiers.

Wait, are we really thinking the S is gonna go down to 149?

That's insane. Not happening.

I would cry tears of joy

GIGATON!!!!

He + Phil Spencer + the MS fedora guy = GOAT E3 seriously they are amazing on stage (I met Phil at Xbox Fan fest 2016 on Mexico he is such an amazing person)

No way he was awesome! :( damn that sucks and about H3A I don't think it's going to happen, a H3 themed content for H5 seems more likely

Is the following realistic at all? It would make me happy - as long as items #1 to #8 are supplemented by some major surprises. Something to give us confidence that Xbox will continue to have great unique exclusives for years to come. The items below I think are pretty realistic and good but if there are no surprises on top of that? Could be a bloodbath. Need surprise IPs/sequels/exclusives.

1) Scorpio has same form factor as Xbox One S (so internal power brick) and releases at $399.

2) Scorpio and original Xbox One development is streamlined in such a way that it becomes almost trivial for games to receive Scorpio "patches". Meaning we won't see situations like on PS4 where a game like Yooka-Laylee has no Pro patch.

3) Microsoft announces they've purchased Playground and their next game will be a new open world IP.

4) 343 doesn't announce Halo 6. But they announce that MCC and Halo 5 will have Scorpio patches. MCC's patch in particular will include big fixes and quality of life improvements in addition to graphical/resolution upgrades.

5) The Coalition announces new single player DLC for Gears 4 that heavily involves Kait Diaz.

6) Turn10 announces Forza Motorsport 7 to release in September. The jump in quality from Motorsport 6 to Motorsport 7 will be considered the same as the jump from Horizon 2 to Horizon 3. And all the older Forza games are announced to have Scorpio patches (from Motorsport 5 to Forza Horizon 3 - even the Fast and Furious Forza game will get a patch).

7) Sea of Thieves, State of a Decay 2, and Crackdown 3 are all dated for 2017. And all three turn out to be awesome games.

8) Tacoma and Cuphead release June 2017. Long awaited indies - and both turn out to be awesome games.

I think all of the above is realistic. But there wouldn't be a single new game up there other than Forza Motorsport 7 and the new Playground IP. So what I'm hoping for is that Microsoft has some surprise unannounced games. Like just crazy, out-there stuff like perhaps Fez 2, or Banjo Kazooie 3, or Perfect Dark 3. Or announcements of Japanese ports like Nier Automata.

Need something.

If the whole "quiet before the storm" is because they have nothing else in the pipeline, I'll really lose faith in Xbox. I need this "quiet before the storm" to be because Microsoft is doing a good job of suppressing leaks.

Dam ;(. Well...please be late October by the latest! :D. I just find it weird they would market the Scorpio with Shadow of War when that's coming out at least 2 months before it (assuming October release date). Plus it'll miss out on Forza 7's release if they keep the tradition of September. I thought Phil said they're ahead of schedule with Scorpio? This doesn't sound like ahead of schedule to me Phil. :p

Ahead of schedule by a bit in the context of high volume hardware production means nothing.

Unless you want Scorpio to launch with only a few hundred thousand units and be stock constrained for a month, you'll buffer in that extra production time in the factories.

- not every studio wants to be purchased. And if PG already started production on their new game and MS is not backing it, they already have another publisher. They aren't going to break a contract

-MCC is dead. They aren't going back to that well. Sucks but it's not a priority. It's not even being played enough or has an MT to warrant the effort

- don't think Coalotion is going to bother with story DLC. Not like more SP Gears is being clanored about. Probably just ongoing MO support

Yeah. I just took it as everything was ahead of schedule, lol. Design, getting it into developers' hands, production, etc. I still think it'll be weird if Forza 7 comes out before the Scorpio, but oh well. *shrugs*

Looking at the developers from V1 Interactive, they are based in Seattle and a lot of them seem to have a history with Bungie and Halo. I bet its still some sort of indie game since their team size is so small.

I wonder if we will get a Xbox S type of release where it comes out in Mid-September with a 2tb Hybrid SSHD for $499.99 and early November a standard 1TB model for $399.99.

we already seen prices cheaper then that.add 10 months, I can see either of my predictions happening.

Anything is possible, but your $149 prediction seems a bit ridiculous. I'm not so sure how likely the "cheapest place to play 3rd party games" will play out either. Just don't think it will have much (if any) of a price advantage over base PS4.

If (when) a price drop happens soon, it'll be down to $249, then $199 or $229 during Black Friday and Christmas. A price drop to $149 outside of holidays won't happen for years, probably 2019 or 2020.

He also said:

Gonna say mid-Oct to mid-Nov launch window.

This is gonna be one long wait. Fuck!

By the way what does "launch games require cert" mean?

Certification for the games?

Certification with the October SDK, it means een if your game works 100% you have to wait until the October SDK for your Scorpio enabled game to pass certification.

They're explicitly calling it a "AAA game" on their website though. Not that it means much nowadays, but still. They were also talking about releasing it on "PC and consoles" in a news back in 2015, so I'm not sure if it fits (meaning being linked to Microsoft).

I would like to point out the Marvel Entertainment clause. Disney bought out Mavel, Marvel had a contract in place with Paramount and Disney bought out the contract. Also Playground has not stated it will be a mutli platform game they haven't confirmed if it is or not MS Studios title or they signed with a brand new publisher.

Plus I would argue MS needs to start buying or buying a percentage of companies like yesterday. If they had 8 Studios all with multiple production teams we wouldn't have these questions or concerns over MS ability to produce content.

Internal studios or lack-of is not so much a problem if they could make up for it elsewhere. The problem is what the more recent pipeline of external content looked like.

I mean, we know that they have around 8-10 unannounced external developer games (excluding Forza, Halo, Gears ) in development right now.

If 5-6 of those unannounced games are AAA, then the lack of studios ain't really an issue. But as we've seen 2 years ago with ReCore, it leaves one with a feeling of dissatisfaction that a major reveal from that E3 turns out to be a lower budget endeavor.

Part of the expectation is seeing where MS goes with those Global Publishing games.

It is when if they do have a hit say with State of Decay another company comes in and swoops them up.

How do we know these? And what studios are they? At first glance that number seems high.

Prediction: Ken Levine's new game gets announced at Microsoft's show. Possibly an Xbox/PC exclusive. They launched their website and new name a little while ago so the wheels are churning.

It could be, but the reason they revealed the studio and launched their website was to attract talent (it was right during GDC), not necessarily because the game would be revealed soon. I guess it could still be a bit ways off

I need Microsoft to announce exclusive games like the Rare Collection or Sunset Overdrive, that doesn't come out on PC, or else I'll buy them for my computer and the Xbox will be superfluos to me. I will gladly pay for their Xbox Live service too but I got no friends on that service, so I need something to entice me. I most of all just need games, and if they announce them for PC too, then I'll be fine as well.

Their current focus certainly seems to be on Xbox and PC releases. They might announce some games that have limited Xbox exclusivity but will come to PC later.

Soon find out!!

It's using Shannon loftis 14 games in development quote from last year. She's not involved in halo,Forza, gears, rare or Minecraft. Phil oversees those

So if you subtract phantom dust, Scalebound, SoD, Crackdown, killer instinct, Recore; you get 8 more. Now granted of those 8 you probably have Ori 2, Cuphead, ashen also counted in there. So 5 more

Then you can probably add the studio gobo game also to that list(assuming they were working in development last year)

That's the whole point. They don't have high margins on hardware, they make their money on software and services.

If you prefer to play on PC, it suits them as much as if you'd play on Xbox.

Then stick with PC. It's your preference where you want to play.

I was thinking this last night. What if they release a dirt cheap Xbox One. No disk, digital only for 149 bucks or even lower.

For people who just want a small box to play games.

That would go against their strategy. I don't see Xbox One exclusive games happening anymore. And I don't see a problem with that to be honest.

Would they really count Cuphead and Ashen? They are not published by Microsoft and even though set as exclusives, they are still coming throung ID@Xbox

Cuphead and Ashen aren't first party.

Cuphead and Ashen are like Titanfall and NMS.

Not first party games, but they paid a large amount (relatively) to keep it exclusive for life.

Wait, are we really thinking the S is gonna go down to 149?

That's insane. Not happening.

I bought an S last year with FIFA and a second controller for 220€ in Germany. Surely it has reached close to 150 at this point here and there.

Yeah, I'm fine with no exclusive games so that I can play on PC instead. Here's hoping they'll embrace Steam more than they've done so far. Probably happening for a while.

Thats exactly what they dont want tho. The reason all the big publishers try their own stores and launchers is so they dont pay the ~30% Steam cut to Valve.

For instance, its one of the reasons Destiny 2 will be sold through BattleNet instead of Steam

Highly, highly doubt it.
Who knows. I don't think their games are selling that well on the Windows Store, Halo Wars 2 hit Steam recently and extra content sometimes comes to the Steam version first. Maybe in a few years it'll happen.

Yeah, the 30% cut but here's hoping they start expanding to other storefronts and takes that cut if their games aren't selling well enough on their own store.

black Friday thru Xmas? Yes. My bold prediction, or it'll be $199 w/50 GC
Sale price plus a gift card isn't unheard of, but I doubt we see it go that low. They still haven't officially dropped to $250. What is more likely is an official drop to $250 at E3 or Gamescom, and a special holiday price of $199. I'd be shocked if it ever reaches $150 outside of BF sales to be honest. $200 is as low as the 360 ever got. The simple fact is that consoles have more components than consoles in the PS2 era had, and inflation means that the $200 price point is about as close as we'll ever get to the PS2s $150. You'll probably see the XBO officially hit $199 next year, and it will stay there until Scorpio drops to $250 and phases out the base XBO.

The only way I could ever see it officially dropping below $199 is if the port the design to 7nm or 5nm and it allows them to small power brick on the cord along with passive cooling on the APU. It would likely also be a bare bones system with reduced ports and a standard Blu Ray drive.
