Wonder Woman Review thread

It's hard to think Green Lantern only happened a couple of years ago.

I wonder if the movie had been successful of Ryan would have made Deadpool and instead been focusing on the DCEU.

Weird times.
He probably would have been on contract to not appear in any Marvel movies.
so it seems the dceu really just needed a woman to get the job done. i'm sure that'll be a headline.
You can say that for any movie. Or any other professional job really.
That's really not why DC went with Green Lantern in that situation. Pretty sure it's because Green Lantern basically became Geoff Johns's love project and he was given, at that time, a very large part of creative control over DC's film output (I don't know if he still does that or is more regulated to television). I think there was a lot of thought at the time from several people that GL had became way more popular than he was.

Maybe. John's did come off of writing a critically acclaim run. Apparently his original script was really good before WB had their other writers mess with it.

I wasn't really talking about Fox herself, like I think he was, I was just talking about the overall look. The costume is terrible.

Oh oh boys. :p

My super secret friend of a friend of a former roommate's cousin inside source is telling me that Wonder Woman is a mess. The studio is worried that the "too good" reviews will make people think it's some sort of indie film geared toward Hollywood insiders, and they are ordering massive reshoots between now and the Friday release in hopes to fundamentally change the nature of the film. The goal is to bring reviews only slightly down in order for the film to feel more "accessible" to a mass audience.
Changes being implemented are as follows:

-Inserting about a dozen quick scenes to give WW a snappy new catch phrase. They are still shopping ideas, but the front runner right now is "I'm not your dream girl, I'm your worst nightmare" and also being considered is something where the bad guys will say "you fight like a girl" and she responds "No, I fight like a woman" before knocking them out in a single blow.

-Steve Trevor is being rewritten into a comedic foil, often tripping on things and giving away secrets to the bad guys with his unfiltered loudmouth. But mostly he will keep trying to impress wonder woman romantically in comedic ways that back fire.

-They are cutting about half the action and inserting romantic comedy scenes because test audiences thought the movie was too "gritty" and "dark". These mostly revolve around them trying to come up with the perfect coffee shop acoustic guitar set, which is going to be very "quirky". Hanz Zimmer is reportedly coming out of retirement to work with Vampire Weekend on the songs.

-Steve Trevor is being recast, Seth Rogan is in talks.

-There will be a cameo by Flash and Batman, who at some point travel through time to play pranks on people.

-Wonder Woman will be recast, Amy Schumer is in talks.

-The film will be retitled Love Actually 2: Wonder Woman. Hugh Grant is set to return and be written in as a major character.

-The original film will be included in its entirety on the eventual blu-ray release as a 2 hr long "deleted scene".

-Does anyone else have any sources on this?

It'll be interesting seeing the narrative emerge around JL. I can see it already. It JL is shit it'll be Snyder's fault and Whedon just couldn't right a sinking ship. If Justice League miraculously turns out good/great then I imagine Whedon'll get the lions share of the credit. Regardless of the facts.

Truth.
Justice. And the American Way.

Hopefully this will be the start of turning things around for DCEU. It has the potential, it just needs more good and better stuff heh. MoS and BvS were okay films that were greatly flawed, while SS was quite baaad.

On another note. I think this thread went up way too damn fast. There are going to be so many comments and pages before shit really kicks off. As of right now. A bit pointless imo.

Ah, but that is good.

We have roughly 11 hours of anticipation and hype. Stirring that fanboy and fangirl pot, making it ready for the explosion.

This is how we create another BvS review thread. It almost doesn't matter how well WW does, because it'll either be great, terrible, or middling, and we will still lose our fucking minds over the arbitrary RT number. But only if we build the hype here and now.

Well the reviews will be coming out in less then twelve hours but some reviews are popping up already so here we go!

I'll be updating throughout the day

By "throughout the day" do you mean later this evening, 11 hours from now, when the embargo lifts?

Oh great now reviews too are going to undermine the movie by forcing themselves to bring up the other films. Is it too hard to call it a good movie on its own ? Instead of making it sound like it's only good because the rest is bad.

Why exactly would people ignore the cinematic UNIVERSE that DC has made a big deal out of this being a part of?

Lol, I don't mean this in a bad way but american movie commercials are hilarious.
Voice-over man with gravelly voice: "It's not only a great superhero film... IT'S A GREAT FILM!!!"
Now if only they still had the "in a world" bit I would be sold even more.

Critics are calling "Wonder Woman a masterpiece! Hailing it as an instant classic" I'm looking forward to the film, but these sorts of quotes you usually find in TV spots, make me go, a-ha-ha!

Well you judge a movie by how it stands on its own. I mean you don't need to have watched MoS, BvS, or SS to watch or understand what's going on in Wonder Woman.

The only way it's acceptable is if they say something like. "This movie stands clear and above the rest."

Warners' first real attempt at a cinematic universe was with George Miller's Justice League Mortal, picking up round 2007/2008. The plan was to start with Justice League and have spin-offs from there. And it would've been concurrent to stand alone movies like Nolan's Batman. But some tax issues in Australia, the writer's strike, and other factors hurt it.

Shame we never got this instead of Mediocre of Steel and Batman V. Superman: Giant Banality All Out Attack! but...well at least Wonder Woman looks promising.

Regardless of how this reviews (I've watched it, and it's as good as people are saying it is)...

The real Geoff Johns/DC Films division doesn't begin in earnest until Aquaman.

Ignore it ? No they shouldn't.
But making it into the headline ? You are reviewing a movie, not an cinematic universe. If the one thing you want to put in your headline is that it doesn't suck like the rest, you are clearly showing it's only good because the rest is bad, and that the movie on its own is not that good.

I'm kinda more interested about Aquaman because Wonder Woman hasn't been perceived as a joke character...and even though Aquaman has had a bunch of good stories, and Johns' own run on the New 52 book, it's a chance to turn around people's misconceptions. I'm cautiously optimistic about JL being better than BvS, maybe not as "inspiring" as WW...but Mamoa's Aquaman looks fun, and I've been waiting a good while to have the JL in a live action film so if it could not be the second coming of Suicide Squad that'd be great.

I don't know much about Jenkins, and other than the now dead Affleck (but resurrected by Reeves) Batman film, James Wan is the one I'm most excited about. I pray he brings his horror vibes. The man can tell a story.

"The DCEU Finally Delivers a Great Movie"

"You'll believe a woman can save the DC Movieverse"

I don't see how you can interpret either of these titles as what you're describing. You may be over thinking this.
