Alamo Drafthouse hosting women-only Wonder Woman screenings June 6th

Yeah the one in Brooklyn does too, but how else are you supposed to see the menu to re-order a milkshake

It's not a bad thing. And definitely better than using your phone as a light.

(though pre-smartphones all you had was the light of the movie screen)

Not complaining and it's a private company so they can do what they want within the legal bounds. But this does seem a little.. I dunno, maybe not the best idea.

It's been so successful that they had to add two more screenings.

Seems like a good idea to me!

Why is it a stupid idea?

Why can't we enjoy nice things together ? Why should we always being separated by our color of the skin, our gender or our social rank ? Where the limit to this shit ? Next time it'll be White people only, Black people only, LGBT people only ?

For them, it's just a marketing push and it seems to work, fine, I don't care why people want to do but theater is something that need to be share with everyone, EVERYONE...

There are many screenings for all people at the Drafthouse locations running this promotion. And, at every other theater. Having a communal event can be good fun and it isn't like there won't be dozens of other screens showing WW at the same time in any city an Alalmo Drafthouse is in.

There are plenty of screenings to this movie, which you have to know since you've been reading the thread. Also:

We have many "Women Nights" here too, it's not something very rare but I don't really get it, I mean, when I go to theater, I'm not going because of the people I'll seat with but for the movie I want to watch.

I'm going to watch a movie, good or bad and I don't give a single fuck about who is in this theater, I don't really care if some men/women just want to be all together in a screening or not, I just want to enjoy the movie as much as possible.

let them have a women/men only screenings if it's making them better about themselves.

Why the change of heart? Thought no fucks were given..🤔

I was talking why my friends about this movie and I said something like: are you guys and girls ok to go see it next weekend or maybe you girls want to go see it on Women only screenings" and they were like "WTF ? why should we go without you lol, is this something new ? To be honest, if we want to go see a movie without you guys, we just go by ourselves..., we don't need any private/only women/sect stuff, we just go " and we start to debate about it...

Some of are ok with this idea but are afraid of what could happen next and some of my friend just hate the idea, I'm in the first camp, the idea by itself don't really bother me but I can see what problem we can have in the future.

So, what you're saying is that your friends don't want to go to separate screenings at the Alamo? And since you don't, there shouldn't be a special screening who's proceeds go to planned Parenthood? Because if you're not going there, then I'm a little confused as to why you asked if the women wanted to go to a separate screening.

But, again,

Why can't we enjoy nice things together ? I don't care why people want to do but theater is something that need to be share with everyone, EVERYONE...

You CAN watch and enjoy the movie together with plenty of people in the multiple screenings of this movie. The theater is not telling anyone they can't watch the movie together. There's one special private fundraising event. What's the problem again?

Lol, why is there anyone still ruffled over this? This existing or not existing changes nothing. Literally nothing about your potential experience watching this film.

What dark future is a bunch of women seeing Wonder Woman the harbinger of?

I like how you had to question the girls about, like they maybe they couldn't decide to go on their own without involving you at all.

Agency people, learn about it

What happens in Texas apparently changes things around the world..or it doesn't..I dunno what the hell is going on anymore lol.

I thought they heard about this somehow and I was joking about it, like I said, movies are to be enjoyed together, things are here to be enjoyed together, what's the point of a Women/Men only screenings ? is it more fun because you're only having Women or Men in the theater ? how does it works for transgender ? what did all of this means for gender equality ?I don't think we'll agree on this point but I don't think it's a good idea but whatever.

What dark future is a bunch of women seeing Wonder Woman the harbinger of?

It's not about that but if you allow stuff like this, next we can have only White people screening, only Black people screening etc and things will going down, you can be sure of it.

I think the only argument I've seen really is a ton of facile slippery slope arguments. People just assuming this is the start of segregated showings that exclude people. Something like that I guess, people overreacting to a small treat assuming it's going to get bigger and detrimentally effect them in some way. When in reality it's just a special event and doesn't change anything for them, they're seeing it as an attack and making it about themselves rather than a celebration.

It's stupid, but hey, it's par for the course lately. I've gotten used to people of my gender making me ashamed to be a man.

Why is it that whenever shit like this happens most of the time the slipper slope fallacy is the first to come.

At the very least have the decency to do Godwins law so I can have a laugh

If you read anything you'd know that is is open to women and women they mean anyone who identifies as such... that's how it works for trans women.

Though I did hear that dogs and cats are now living together after hearing about this so maybe this is the start of doom.

The day there is a women only screening of a movie with the significance of Wonder Woman and there is zero absurd controversy over it is the day women only screenings aren't necessarily needed.

Let's try again. The point is the screening is a fund raiser. The point is to celebrate the first female led hero movie in decades. What about transgender? I take it you don't find trans women actual women? Otherwise, it's REAL weird you bring that up.

Gender equality will not crumble because of this theater chain having this screening..it's insanity to even entertain this nonsense. There are plenty of screenings for everyone. This one is private. But yeah, Mark your calendars..we must never forget the day gender equality took it's first blow..

Alamo already had a "white people only" screening.

They were showing that old Oklahoma movie. That shit is so white it made me uncomfortable, so I'm sure only older white people went

Man, if these people actually went out of their houses they'd be fucking horrified if it was on 'ladies night.'

'What? They get a whole night? When's 'men's night'!? 'Where are my free drinks? Where's my free entry? What do you mean I'm not allowed in your club because I'm outside yelling about men's rights and I'm made of straw?'

Well fallacies exist solely because people who aren't well versed enough see them as valid arguments, and continue to use them because other like minded people see them as valid as well. It's just kind of the self fulfilling prophecy, fallacies exist because they work in riling people up, despite not being grounded in any sort of basis or reality. Slippery Slope arguments in particular provide an especially scary fake future that people can buy into and use as a crutch for their thoughts rather than observing the present, so that's why it's probably used the most I'd assume.

Basically, it's the easiest way for them to seem like they know what they're talking about without providing any empathy or thought to their actions.

Why wouldn't transwomen be allowed in?

it's not the first female led hero movies in decades but whatever, it's just a publicity stunt and nothing more.

I don't really care at the end of the day but when shit will escalate, and they'll do like always, I hope you'll have the same attitude as you have now

Like always?

If whatever escalation you're afraid of is so common, when exactly was the last time it happened, and why is this one such a big deal by comparison?

It's a public stunt because you decided it is? Not a fund raiser? And if you don't care, why are you still going on about it? And are trans women actually women? You seemed concerned..

You pretend to underestimate the importance of publicity stunts.

I find that interesting.

They are raising money for planned parenthood, so it is a charity event to.

And what dark future will this lead us down?

Segregation isn't a thing of human history... If you don't put limits, you'll never know when you'll cross them or not.

Just imagine for a second, Black Panther movie with Black people only screening... holy shit, things would get ugly really fast, just saying.

Escalate to what like you said a cynical reading of it will just be a PR and marketing event for a blockbuster movie and basically a theme night. Most people will move on after it was done.

This would make a good parody post.

But it isn't.

Plain ugly.

Ladies' nights have actually been ruled to be unlawful sex discrimination in a bunch of states.

Here's a good article on it: http://www.slate.com/articles/news_...y_be_illegal_an_excerpt_from_richard_t_1.html

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of these guys buying tickets in protest to show up, get turned away and attempt a (probably unsuccessful) lawsuit.
