Dragon Ball Super volume 1
jBwc.jpg

One day Toriyama woke up with a strong case of bowel movements and in a rush to let it out, decided to crap all over Dragon Ball. That's how Dragon Ball Super was born.... ir at least that's the version I'd like to imagine for why this thing was made, based on what I got to read in the fist volume.
What kind of amateurish writer would insert 1 page summaries of story events regarding shit that happen in the new serialization I have in my hands without showing them?

Toyotaro isn't too bad in emulating Toriyama's style, but I don't really feel it.
Such a disappointing first volume, made with the care of a bulldozer.

The manga isn't very good compared to the anime.

Apparently its very different from the current anime so hardly anyone cares for it.

There's a (negligible) schism of Super manga vs anime fans, although the manga is barely a consideration in the grand scheme.

Personally, Toyotaro's work honestly feels so amateur hour compared to the original manga that I don't even bother. It's not like the core story is plotted in a way that makes up for it lol.

The thing that really annoyed me were those 1 page summaries.
So Beerus is looking for the Sayian God. Goku has no clue about what a Sayian God is. Earth is about to get destroyed and Goku says "wait, I have an idea!" What follows is a 1 page summary of the events that take place to get Goku to become a Sayian God...
then there is the fight between the Sayian God Goku and Beerus which ends with Earth no longer risking destruction. Next chapter, Goku and Vegeta are sparring, Golden Freezer is name dropped and there is a half page summary telling me Freezer was revived and came back and they beat him because they had become apprentices of Whis...

The manga basically is hoping you've already seen bog and rof and super condenses them to get to the new content. The super anime has the inverse problem of taking the movie content and stretching it super thin.

Pretty good chapter. The flashback was fairly basic, but it still effectively built up his cool moment. Seems the upper moons are pretty strong.

Random question, but anyone have any good reverse harem recommendations? I've had plenty of exposure to the infinite parade of love triangle focused shoujo, but thinking on it I've hit on surprisingly little that goes this route. Like, I love Ouran, and like Fruits Basket too (but on the other hand, at least IIRC Gentlemen's Alliance was pretty damn poor), but I'm having trouble coming up with other examples of stuff I've read that fall under that category off the top of my head...

And while I'm asking about stuff: I know there are a billion series focused around punks hanging around and doing punk things but any good examples of A: ones focused on girl gangs and the like instead of just the guys, and/or B: throwing full on shonen style supernatural battles on top of that punk framework? Like, I know there are plenty of punk heroes in shonen stuff, but I'm talking about like a full on punk series that follows those ideas/all that entails, where the characters happen to have superpowers. The closest that comes to mind is parts of Jojo's Part IV, but even then I'd say it'd be a stretch to call that a full on punk/gangster series... (Just randomly seems like an amusing fit, and I'm sure at least someone's tried it, right?)

Hey, when you're poor you have to improvise when you can. Though I think their sleeping bag idea would take more time to get into and out of then you'd spend inside of it.

Mousou Telepathy 326 - 336

Seat changes are never fun. Toda not sitting next to Nanako after thinking he'll be lucky was pretty funny though.

For as generic as Asta is, I'll give him credit where he really is the rock lee of his series (who naruto should have been about). In a world of magic users he's the only character who continues to not have any magical abilities instead having to rely on his physical strength and his team mates magic to beat the bad guys.

It's cookie cutter shonen battle manga, but arcs tend to blend more naturally than a fairy tail.

Pretty enjoyable read.

The manga isn't very good compared to the anime.

The anime isn't very good compared to any kind of standard of quality either, Super in general is a disgrace to humanity.

Toyotaro isn't too bad in emulating Toriyama's style, but I don't really feel it.
Have to disagree here, he can't emulate Toriyama's style to save his life, the guy that is doing that Yamcha "what if" story is so stupidly better it's not even funny even if sometimes some panels are literally carbon copies of the original manga.

It's unfortunate that the Super manga can't be more of a straight adaptation of things, but it's pretty much made in mind that you've already seen the anime version due to release schedule. It's more complimentary than definitive.

Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume, it's pretty long clocking in at 15 volumes.

Anyone got any favorite chapters/arcs of series they may tend to read over (if it's a really big spoiler, tag it)

Eyeshield 21
-End of Shinryuji Naga when Himura pumps up the crowd
-Sena's reveal that he's eyeshield 21

-Shokugeki no Soma
-Alice vs Soma match
-Karrage arc

One Piece
-2 year 3 day reunion chapters
-Luffy uses haki on Amazon Lily Island

Yotsuba
-Any chapter with food in it

Full Metal Alchemist
-Ed and Al's past arc
-The entire final arc starting where Ed recovers with his battle with Kimblee

A Bride Story
-Any chapter that focus on Pariya who I think of as the real MC (hahaha)

Assassination Classroom
-Crossdressing Nagisa
-Culture Fest arc

Same chapter as yours.
Mine was when Hiruma outrun Agon and scores the touchdown.
Second best was Killer Hornet during DB VS Ojyo.

This manga is still hilarious

I dropped the series after 30 chapters but isn't that a bit disingenuous to call him the Rock Lee since he had anti magic swords and a demon living inside him or whatever. Since, you know, having anti magic swords is pretty broken in a magic based world.

Only broken when he fights people who really aren't that strong in the first place, more recent fights have required Asta to work with other mages on his team to get close enough to actually hit people with his anti magic swords.

I'd say she'll protect him more than the reverse, lol.

New Game! ch42

So similar yet so different. Still, doing everything from scratch is pretty impressive.

Rokudou no Onna-tachi ch31

She truly is the baddest motherfucker of them all, tough I expect Rokudou to hold her back and make things difficult.

I'm just saying that being given the power that is the antithesis to everyone else's power make you an underdog. The Rock Lee comparison would be more applicable if he were just using regular swords and had no magic or antimagic at all.

A, A, prime.

I don't remember how I stumbled into this, I think someone suggested me because it was similar to Toward the Terra?

Anyway, I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this. I'll admit I was a bit taken back by the author's style, it's pure 80' shoujo and everyone has weirdly fabulous hairs, but I really loved how expressive the characters are and the general panel composition:
I'm definitely going to check more stuff by Hagio Moto now.

new game 42

This chapter feels like my life, where I'm Nene

Danberu nan kiro moteru? 1 - 21

Just read through this and quite like it. Its about high school girls that decide to hit the gym and lose weight/get in shape, and teaches you about working out. When it comes to the explaining, the drawings seem to get more lewd.

My point was more because RL isn't playing by the same rules as everyone else he has to find/create new advantages that let him compete. That's how I view Asta with his physical strength and anti magic swords and of course Rock Lee with his can't use ninjutsu or genjutsu but is physically really strong and has his unique gates ability. I guess a better comparison would be to Hinata from Haikyuu or any other shonen sports manga where the mc has some quantifiable problem where they shouldn't be able to succeed because of things outside of their control but are able to by working hard and finding their own way to be successful.

We Never Learn is like a direct replacement for Nisekoi in tone and harem. You know, crappy Do Nothing Harem that never really gets all that lewd. Contrast with Yuragi, a Do Nothing Harem that's lewd as fuck.

Take your usual yandere h-story, but throw in some asphyxiation play (not by, but on the love-obsessed character, strangely enough) and one hell of a cliffhanger ending, and you've got a tumultuous ride akin to this one.

I feel bad for Reiner.

I mean he is still an unforgivable piece of shit but...I feel bad for him.

Something is up with the one-legged man. They focus on him too much and dont show his face and he doesn't react like the others.

There's also the fact that he had his arm band on the wrong side. Seems weird to mess up something that habitual.

How is it possible for Eren to have one leg

Suppressed Regeneration or something. Also when Eren and Ymir got captured, they cut off their hands and feet and because they had been fighting they were too exhausted to regenerate at a high speed.

I don't think its Eren...but it could be a shifter. If you infiltrated the populace with someone who could turn into a titan - shifter or mindless - thatd be like a stronger suicide bomber.

I don't think it's impossible, but I think its overly complicated to create a weird plot element like that. And why would you send the Founding Titan in on an infiltration mission when you have an entire army
