sony's defense force in this thread has started

Yup and its really indefensible, so it's amusing to witness. There is no reason certain games should not have cross platform abilities at this point in time. Only thing I would be against is FPS titles on PC playing with console. A lot of games would have some serious legs if we could all play together.

I have a question: can I log into my psn account to watch vue on the xbox? If not microsoft & sony should work that out too.
Funny you mention this.

Vudu. I could use my Walmart login on PS3 but there was no option for that on 360.

I thought if I created a Vudu login my stuff would just carry over. It didn't.

This is purely a business decision from Sony.

The for the children answer was not a good look.

No Playstation user playing Minecraft with Xbox people is gonna think, "Man, these Xbox players are sure fun to play with. I should buy an Xbox One!"

The justification from users in here of shitty anti-consumer practices is sad.

If anything the hassle of signing up for another service will keep them from even doing it.

I don't understand what this whole discussion is about. Agreed it is better for gamers to have a larger pool of players. But Xbox saying they are being sages here and doing for the greater good is ridiculous. The way they have been presenting their business of late to investors is through Xbox Live user numbers and this is just a strategy to bump that number.(as they have clearly lost this gen in terms of pure hardware numbers)

About games other than Minecraft, seems purely a business decision not to give players a chance to consider getting an xbox over ps4 , say if their friends are over on PSN.

I don't understand people desperately trying to bat for one company over the other. Jim Ryan is a whole another case though. I don't think he should be allowed to speak to press.

Having a competitive version of one of the world's most popular video games affects Playstation the business.
arguably the most popular video game if we're talking lifetime sales

it's not amusing - at least not to me. it's disheartening. we are all on the consumer end of the spectrum here. "it's just business" "not good for sony" "sony will lose sales" "why work with the competition" "mS will boost MAU with PsN" + more bullshit

not only do I disagree with some of these but as a consumer why would I care about any of that stuff? i love playstation but i hate sony's policies when it comes to these things. i have a Ps4 and I have friends with switches and xbones that also have Minecraft. this update could have been the start of a great new future for online gaming.

His point is that in order for a Xbox user to use the PlayStation Vue app, you would have to create a PSN id. So it would "equal" things out.

I got the point. But there would have to be a Vue App for Xbox first. Seeing as we can't even get Spotify on Xbox because Sony struck a deal to limit it to PlayStation, getting anything Sony developed themselves on Xbox seems pretty unlikely... and not because MS wouldn't let you log into the account.

Then why add the Switch at all if Sony already said no? Not like the install base is big right now.

is this why rocket league will be crossplay with everything but PlayStation 🤔

Minecraft requiring a Microsoft account is the real reason. Once Microsft dropped sales numbers and went to MAUs, it gave Sony every reason not to up that number. This would allow Microsoft to claim any PlayStation user with Minecraft as part of their user numbers, which will make Microsoft look better.

People making these arguments realize that Microsoft can already add a Microsoft Log-in to PS4 software just without Cross-play? Several 3rd parties already have log-ins.

This has nothing to do with a Microsoft Login.

I hope this keeps getting more and more attention. Eventually Sony will have to realize they need to change or the user base will shift if it's a big enough deal. I personally think cross play could be huge for the industry if it is embraced.

To shut Sony the he up. What these cross play services/middle men need is a very simple API that automatically generates an account based on the PSN, XBL or Nintendo account.

It's can't be that hard. Simply request username, age, country. Then generate an account ensuring the username is used as the primary ID of the account, which is users can't see.

Then if kids are detected, the systems should automatically block any form of chat, unless parental controls have strictly enabled it.

There you go Sony. Then they'll have nothing to complain about.

With all other companies and pressure, I'm sure Sony will enable cross-play albeit it'll take a while so they can sort their excuses out and iron issues with cross-play middlemen.

By how much, though? If it's negligible, then Sony won't waste their time.

PC parity Minecraft that's feature rich on a brand new engine and on a unified code base making all versions of Minecraft the same so it's easier to keep up to date and allow for crossplay with PC, iOS, Android, Switch and XB1

Oh and infinite worlds like the PC version.

Sony denied that.

EDIT: and if you're wondering about sales, the game is over 120 million copies sold and counting. It's a world wide phenomenon among kids and teens.

It wasn't big last gen when Sony pushed for it. I don't see it changing now. Xbox fell for unrelated reasons. People just get online and expect to play with people. PS people expect to play with other ps people. They expect to be able to send friend requests and party invites after having met them in game x.

Switch needs a player base too right ? It's a win win for both of them. That's what I would think.

I thought I made it clear in the second line of my post. Say my friend has a ps4 and I have been an Xbox gamer so far and don't own an Xbox One but really wanted to play Rocket League with them. It's quite obvious which one I was gonna get if this is implemented.

I am not trying to defend one company over the other but the way the discussion has been going on since the past couple of days has been ridiculous to me. I see it as a purely business move by Microsoft in terms of Minecraft and supporting cross-play.

I am all for it but it's just interesting to see how people can easily fall into place when companies are actually trying to conduct a business here.

PC is the cool kid everyone want's to play with.
if you play with the cool kids long enough you start to become cool.
No I meant that people are trying to use the XBL login to excuse this but RL won't be using XBL to crossplay.
okay, your post in the context of this thread made it seem like you meant Ps4 cross play in Rocket League is happening (besides the cross play already there)
