VentureBeat: Nintendo Switch generated more positive E3 reactions than Xbox One X

Sea of Thieves isn't AAA? Forza is a flagship title for them...so showing it is a big deal. What's your metric for popular? Cause I think you're mistaken on that. They're popular enough that the generation started on Sony and Microsoft touting Driveclub and Forza. Now it's Forza and GT. Does the trailer for Crackdown not count as AAA?

That's not lost on Microsoft.

Oh right I forget about Crackdown 3. And Sea of Thieves was shown last year, and I don't think is that big. I don't know, maybe we don't understand each other because I'm not from the US and very few buy Xbox on my country. But the 360 did well on the previous generation, they had many more appealing games.

Literally everyone I know?

Dunno about anyone who still post messages or photos there.

But the article says:

"Although Nintendo generated more conversation volume than Xbox, when it came to conversations surrounding the Xbox One X versus Nintendo Switch, Xbox One X was received more positively than the Nintendo Switch by the E3 audience. Interestingly, the Xbox One X was mentioned only 1 percent more than the Nintendo Switch during E3, which means this audience was equally discussing and perhaps comparing the consoles. However, 57 percent of the conversations about Xbox One X were positive while only 45 percent of all Nintendo Switch conversations were positive."

So for console talk X received more positive talk. Or am I reading this wrong?

This shit is all messed up... who is right? Better yet who is wrong? Is it right to be wrong, or .... sigh.

so this is "Nintendo ~100% more than Microsoft and Sony"?

Sony winning automatically invalidates that graph

Nintendo was ok at best, imo. There were no surprises, as far as I can remember, but the list of games was solid and Mario Odyssey will fight Zelda for the GOTY title. Sony was not any different, with GOW being the highlight of the conference. Between the Pre-conference and the conference, they had the largest number of impressive titles.
MS was...I don't know...completely off; courtesy of $499 and disappointing exclusives...

In my circle of friends, instagram, twitter and GAF are better metrics than FB gor gaming. FB is great for family and frienf interaction, but I find twitter has more buzz socially than FB, gaming specifics. Even GAF is a better measure of gaming than FB

Every once in a blue moon, we hit that point in the cycle where people are tired of teraflops and technojargon and just want fun games.

It happened in 2006. It happened this week.

"That point" in the cycle is all of the time. There has never been a time where people actually care about teraflops or blast processing in the abstract, outside of console warz arguments made by partisans who have already decided. What people care about is the games you make using new technology.

The Switch is actually a good example of this: it's not just that it has groundbreaking mobile tech, it's that it allows you to play the best new Nintendo games at any time or place that's convenient for you.

Buzz is based in userbase.

Right now Sony will win in any media you choose... the graph just show reality and not how good or bad you did at E3.

I feel Microsoft showed a bunch of games but left me no impression any of them being "Xbox" games.

The console also has no personality, all they brag was the technical specs that normal gamers have no idea what those meant.

So overall, the problem is that the console gave no memorable impression to the consumers.

Not super surprising, I'd imagine exclusives would actually matter a lot in these types of things and the only somewhat big one MS brought was Forza, which isn't even remotely close to some of the stuff Nintendo or even Sony had to show in terms of popularity.

But Nintendo didn't even tell us how many flops they have.

They dont have any lol

Back on topic, i recall COD was one of the least mentioned games on social media this year, same every year.

But I doubt that is any indication of sales, so its all meaningless.

Again its the loud vocal minority, its like you would believe Bayonnetta sold 20 million if you read GAF

I really hope Nintendo doesn't fuck it up like they did with the Wii. I'm still pissed about that. Defeat in the Jaws of victory. This is thier second chance.

I dont think they Will. Wii was more of a fad, this is basically a handheld that docks. Much more traditional.

Outside of Bethesda RPGs, Nintendo is the only company that can excite me anymore. But that's basically because of their recent direction. Open world Zelda, Mario, and 3 Xenoblade games. Reminds me of the Nintendo I used to love. I say this as somebody that hated both the wii and wii u.

One is a new generation console/handheld & the other is a high end model of a console that's already been out for a few years.

I love my Switch but the Xbox One X is a whole different beast. If I didn't already have a great PC and a PS4 and a normal Xbox One I would consider buying it but I can't see spending 500 for a console that will not get games I can't already play on my original XB1 (at least I don't think it will play different games)

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Which I still find so absolutely fascinating and unexpected considering how relatively small the Metroid fanbase is

Metroid fanbase is small, metroid PRIME fanbase is huge. This metroid prime commercial

made me buy a gamecube, before that i never played a single metroid game and didn't even know what Samus was outside of Smash Bros, i thought it was a robot

I dunno if you can call 2 and a half million people at its peak and 1 and a half million people on average "huge". The Prime fanbase, at best, is double the traditional Metroid fanbase, but doubling a small number =/= "huge", either.

They are, however, an intensely (and depending who you ask, grating) vocal fanbase.

After watching the PC Gaming Show and seeing the number of Xbox games coming to PC, I'd say that PC gamers had a great show. There's no way I can afford half of what is coming out before the end of the year. October is going to break the bank.

Well...MS did manage to unsell me on the X. Though Nintendo helped. Made me realise that if better looking games are important to me I'm better putting that 500$ into a videocard. And if I don't care that much I'm better off adding a switch to my PS4.

$499 is a non-starter, with the general public, so this should surprise no one.

51% of the Switch discussion being positive, is kind of a negative, in my eyes.

I think it's almost right.

I'm personally less optimistic this time around because I had higher expectations.

I expected Ni no kuni and Fortnite to be obvious announcements.

This was mitigated by Starlink.

I still believe in P Stars and MH proper sequel still happening but the way messaging about them was handled it was poor.

I expected Kirby and Pikmim. We got Kirby and Yoshi instead.

What really should push positive discussion is FIFA, Rabbids and Mario.

Though I'm not a fan of how Metroid was announced the obviously positive response is overwhelming.

Nintendo made some mistakes but they didn't do anything that hurt normal expectations.

The middling response is appropriate though I feel more people were more positive about what they saw than I did.

From a personal perspective I went in wanting to get a Xbox One X and had no interest in a Switch. But now I want to get a Switch when Mario Odyssey comes out and I still want a Xbox One X but I don't think there were enough big budget exclusives that looked amazing enough to justify purchasing a Xbox One X.

I mean after the Wii U debacle, surely everything about Switch has been positive? I think people are genuinely surprised more than anything that Nintendo have made such a turnaround.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
Any time Nintendo farts, there's a glowing thread on GAF about it, so I'm not surprised.

Not surprising, Xbox had a pretty bad showing. At least for reasons why you should invest into their system. They showed good games but most of them were multiplatform.
