Ninja Gaiden Black is very special.

Just finished bayonetta 2 (cereza 2 failed topic review) and with that I'm all caught with Japanese action games, next is nier automata, but I did play the demo.

And I have to say, that Ninja Gaiden black is still the best of it's kind and I strongly believe what sets it apart is the enemy A.i.

While devil may cry, bayonetta, metal gear rising, all have near perfect controls, what makes Ninja Gaiden black such an awesome experience is the overall combat flow thanks to the A.i.

I played Ninja gaiden in the xbox og and even though I was playing it on the worst controller pad ever Ninja gaiden Black was still good to control and play.

That's how good it is.

Tecmo, it's time.

I'm talking about, scorpio 4k HDR Ninja Gaiden black.

Anyone?

I beat this for the first time a half year ago and couldn't get enough. Game is seriously timeless - it hasn't aged a day. I was completely in love with it. I plan on starting Ninja Gaiden II soonish.

I remember playing vanilla Ninja Gaiden and thinking omg this shit is amazing. I had saw online that there was a Ninja Gaiden Black and I thought it was a sequel. I wasn't disappointed that it wasn't a sequel though, Black is perfection. It was the beginning of a very, very, very long relationship. I will legit be surprised if Black isn't in the first few batches of Xbox BC.

Still my number 1 hack and slash game and my favourite, dmc and bayonetta and rising was fun but black for me will always be one step ahead. Would be good to see a new game or even a remaster of black.

Yea, out of every hack n slash fighting game out there, ninja gaiden had the best enemy encounters. Every single fight was a fight for your life while every single fight in games like dmc and bayo was a combo exhibition. Nothing wrong with the latter, but the sense of fight or flight has yet to be replicated in other titles. Souls maybe, but that's more down to unfamiliarity with new enemy types more than anything else.

No joke in the order of things at E3 that got me hyped, Xbox backward compatibility was at the top of the list with Mario and Wolfenstein. And for one game and one game only.

Ninja Gaiden Black. God, I hope this is one of the games made available. Or better yet, A complete remaster.

It makes me sad there had never been a follow up that feels like a sequel to me.

I enjoyed NG2 for what it was but I dreamed of a direct extension of the first game. Certainly one of a kind.

I'm not that big of a fan. Iizuna Drop and Flying Swallow are too strong.

The level design gets really bland too. Lots of brown caves followed by janky FPS tank and helicopter bosses.

I will say that it still looks amazing. 480p60 widescreen on OG Xbox.

And I will say Sigma is missing some of the charm.

DMC3 had you fighting sandbags; but, if you had enough of them on screen, trying to create combos and dodge them all was good fun. But I respect that some people don't like having their thumb endurance tested constantly as gameplay.

OL UT after Air Shuriken, the game.

Game's real good, but it's not this unmatched pinnacle of the genre that some people claim it to be.

I wantef to also include God hand 2, but that more of a beat em up category that's all on it's own world right?

The enemy encounter is also very well done there.

I bought an Xbox for Ninja Gaiden Black. Haven't played it since but would love to play again. Since I don't have an Xbox anymore, how is Sigma on the PS3?

You're better off getting a used 360 and playing Black there. Sigma is not as good.

Yep. I only played and still own the original but everyone says Black is incredible. NG is so god damn amazing. I'm all on board for a remaster

The boss fights kinda suck but aside from that it's a masterpiece. Shame the chances of it getting a proper remaster seem next to nothing.

Ninja Master mode makes enemies faster and way more aggressive (flames ninjas. -_-) I think you would have enjoyed the challenge.

Personally, I think Master Ninja Mode is less of a challenge than Very Hard because it's pretty much the same mode with less health. By that point, you already know how to beat it.

The unfortunate thing is that it takes at least 2 completions to unlock (the only thing Sigma was better for was having a way to skip this prerequisite).

I've beaten every modern Ninja Gaiden game in all difficulties, thank you very much. I enjoyed the challenge well enough.

I personally think the Sigma games have their pros and cons, to be honest. I liked the removal of certain... annoyances from the Vanilla/Black.

I'm all for a remake/remaster, but while I'm waiting, if NGB is not on the short list for MS to bring to back compat when it launches I'm going to rant on GAF and gently complain to Phil Spencer on twitter.

Yeah, it always puzzles me when people say izuna drop and flying swallow are OP. While they're very good, on very hard and master ninja, spamming that and UTs will only get you so far. Flying swallow especially, has extremely long recovery times considering how fast and aggressive the enemies are on master ninja. I could only complete master ninja and eternal legend mission mode after mastering shuriken cancels.

On similar note, joebutton (one of the best karma and speed runners back in the day) is slowly putting out a weapon tutorial moveset where he talks about advanced tech and the like:

My favorite game in the genre. Every bit as deserving for best game in the genre status as DMC3, Bayonetta, or the majesty that is God Hand. I'm so stoked to play that game again on the Xbox One BC. Oh my god if I could play it on my PC? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Actually, I think you're right, I do remember having a tougher time with a lesser difficulty.

Also I loved the challenges, it was cool having to switch weapons and knowing tneir potential against certain foes, like the black dragon sword was awesome.

And who could forget you could unlock the arcade rom.

Goddamn, these videos are very recent!

Vanilla had the better unlocks tbh. But there are other ways to play them so I don't lose sleep over it.

Dude, it's all coming back...darn it , now I really really want to play it again.

If NGB isn't the apex of its genre, then what is? DMC3SE? Bayonetta 1 or 2? NG2?

I feel like it's extremely difficult to choose between it, Ninja Gaiden II, Bayonetta, and God Hand. I do lean towards NG2 being better than Black despite also being more flawed, though.

DMC3 is a great game but I don't think it's really comparable to the above four.

It's better in the ways that matter most, really. NGB is definitely a more even game, but NG2 is much more complex and challenging, and that counts for a lot in this genre.

I suppose it is the better game mechanically, but I prefer just about everything else in the first game. Storywise NG2 was also pisspoor coming from the first game.

Nioh is this year's low key best game too. TN has ridiculous talent, I just wish they were more consistent. TN at their best are GOAT tier.

Will hit that buy button as soon as MS release it as backward compatible.

Though with no NG2 BC I bet Tecmo are holding them back for some cheap collection.

I'll be crucified but, Ninja Gaiden 2 is better.

I LOVE Black and would welcome a remaster in a heartbeat seeing as how the action genre is pretty much dead.

Until DMC5 is announced at TGS

It's my second favorite game ever.

I love devil may cry, bayonetta and god hand but ngb was on a whole nother' level of excellence.

You finished Bayonetta 2 once doesn't mean you played the game. First walk through you won't find all the weapons and play on harder difficulties. Bayonetta games are all about multiple walk throughs. Anyway, I love Ninja Gaiden 2 more than the original.

Edit: Nier Automata isn't an action game.

Yes!

I'm not much of a fighting game fan, but Ninja Gaiden Black and God Hand are the only two that had me completely rapt. I guess you can throw the original DMC in there but that was largely the refreshing style of it rather than the gameplay.
