"It's quickplay" and how to turn off all my interest in Overwatch

Intentionally ruin?

If Mei puts up walls at spawn, she intentionally ruins the fun.

If someone picks a fourth DPS, he wants to practice with this hero and kills enemies while doing it. How is he intentionally ruining anything?

Practicing with a hero is not what I'd call intentionally ruining.

Nah, the most important bit is where OP complains about one mode when he has three other modes he can try.

I'm relatively new to OW, but what other modes are there where you can play traditional matches against real players without affecting anyone else's ranking?

I said it before, but maybe I should be more clear and less rigid with a simple mode game, as someone pointed out, the best form to approach the game mode should be not caring at all but I don't think this solve the problem, just let it be.

I don't know how to solve it or if there's a problem at all but after reading the comments looks like the one who is approaching the mode wrong it's me. I looked up some threads in the overwatch forums and it looks like, of course, I'm not the only one who complains about the same exact thing but there's no really a solution for it more than just force me to play competitive, which I find sad since I just want to have fun too

i agree that QP is for practicing or being "casual" or having "fun."

it doesn't mean griefing your team.

i think if you want to play for just clowning around, you should make a custom match.

OP, sounds like you might be taking competitive too seriously. You should try and get over your worry about others placement matches. I'm sure if you go into competitive and do your best, then you'll find people who are equally serious about playing to win.

Isn't that why competitive exists in the first place?

Also if you feel that someone is griefing your quickplay games, report them and move on is honestly the best thing you can do.

When I play quick play, I will never play actively against my team, but I will also most of the time not play at my best. If I want to play a certain character for example, I will just do that even if that isn't a great choice for the situation. I hope nobody ever reported me for that because that would be super dumb.

I still have no idea why you don't stick to ranked? Because you're worried you'll be bad? That's why they have matchmaking to put you against the right skill levels.

You know what I don't like? Trying to learn a new character and have some wannabe esports coach bitch at me for not playing his support or switching to tank.

They made a playlist for you! Ranked! Use it!

I don't know what can your post be interpreted as other than lack of skill, since like i said, i play exclusively on QP and (save for one mei intentionally blocking the spawn at the beginning of the match every once a blue moon) i have never found people to intentionally sabotage the team or "fucking around", they're always trying their best and that's why im baffled by these claims that griefers are rampant in QP.

I know, anecdotal, but hey, so is your OP.

So basically your argument is that the OP (and several others including myself who are describing our experiences) are lying?

Reminds me of the people who call others "tryhards". Winning is fun. Doing well in a game is fun. I can't understand the mentality of someone who can actually come up with a term making fun of someone who's better than them at something.

Solo queue in anything in Overwatch pretty much guarantees that you'll only win about half the matches you play. For ranked, this isn't all that good for your ranking.

It's Quick play if you want others to tryhard go to ranked.
Oh boy

You are pretty much forced to join a group or create a group to enjoy QM because you are not gonna change that mentality , ever.

I mean if someone came at me like this I would probably just ignore them/mute them, I'm not going to have someone come at me because I'm not playing the hero they want or if I'm not playing up to par in quickplay as I am in Competitive.

Also the fact that you report them for not playing as you want them too, in a casual mode, is... I dunno... harsh much?

If you want a team to communicate and work together you need to go in with a premade group. That holds true whether it's quick play or competitive. It's just the nature of online games.

Edit: or not a double post mobile gaf confuses me.

It's Quick play if you want others to tryhard go to ranked.
If I feel like messing around I'll do it in the casual mode.

It's okay that you would want to win. I just don't care that you want to win. If I want to be the 4th offense Hero on a team you bet your ass I will.

Overwatch must have one of the biggest complaining fan base in games. (Well apart from Destiny threads, by that's usually being done by people who don't even play the game.)

OP there's literally a game mode for you. It's called ranked. I have no idea what you're complaining about.

Quick play is there for people who quite frankly don't give a shit and just want to pew pew.

Thanks OP, glad there are still people like you out there to remind me that you all still exist.

I wish they brought back No Limit to the Arcade

I thought the existence of competitive was for pro league and people who really want to win all the time and make a name out of it. I should stick with a group of friends but I don't think that's the solution to this problem either

This is totally fair and you are doing exactly what I expect from the mode, I hope nobody reported you either.

Call yourself lucky then, I like to hear not everybody had the same experience like me

Yeah, seriously, OP sounds like he wants to play real games, doesn't want to deal with people fucking off, but doesn't want to play competitive? I don't understand why he wouldn't just play competitive.

Quickplay in OW is really soothing and I enjoy fucking around with characters I don't play that often and I also often win. I really enjoy not being called out for playing bad with I character I don't know that good in QP. I think QP is the most non toxic mode in OW actually.

Pro league? Noooo, that's why there's tiers! Sure people are battling for the top 500, but the best parts of competitive are:

-Matchmaking that puts you with people close to your skill
-Grouped with people that want to work together and win (for the most part)
-Penalties for leavers (although mild..)
-More communication (usually)
-Special rewards (player icon, gold weapons)

Try it! I rarely ever play quickplay after playing competitive. It's addicting. I'm no MLG player, but I was 2 wins away from top 500 in season 2!

Who are the people like me?

The people who think quick play is just competitive lite.

Not really, you have the tutorial, the practice range and the vs. AI for training, even you can do custom matches with specific rules to play and train.

According to you people should only learn new heroes in the shooting gallery and vs AI? Fuck outta here with that nonsense.

Honestly dude, you really should just play ranked. If you're as bad as you say, you'll get matched with people your skill level eventually anyway and then you can play with people who suck as much as you but actually want to win.

Quick Play / Non-ranked modes are always going to have people who don't really care about the outcome. Back when I briefly played TF2, the amount of games that just became a match of rocket tennis because people were just fucking about was part of the charm. Just let people have their fun, and go into the mode where people are doing what you enjoy.

No, I'm not. I'm sure people do have radically different experiences in this game because there are so many factors that affect who you end up playing with and against.

Exactly, so im not calling anybody liars either, just sharing my own experience.

Im assuming it's a platform thing tho, i play OW on the PS4, i assume PC, having a bigger player population, might be why some people could be exposed to more griefers.

It doesn't help that the mic thread basically skewed what people are calling griefers (because aparently not wanting to use a mic with randoms means "you're ruining the game")

No, I said in several times and posts that it's fine to practise what I find annoying is people throwing an being toxic, read more of my posts before "fuck outta here"

When I'm alone I don't feel like doing poorly and ruining others' placement matches.

Everyone has good days and bad days in competitive. Over time, Competitive will filter players out into the rank they deserve. Whether you're bronze or plat or master, don't be afraid of ruining someone else's time in Competitive - placements don't matter as much as people think and other people have earned the rank they ended up getting.

I hate that too OP I wish there was something in the middle. But the reality is I just quit if there are more than 4 DPS or no tanks or healers.

I only ever play QP when I have a friend or two available, so that at least we can get some synergy going vs. randoms. Sometimes randoms are magical though. I've also found that it's worse when you have an ultra-competitive solo player in QP constantly bitching out everyone for not playing correctly. That's usually what prompts the responses found in the OP.

Edit: I also like to greet the team, wish opponents well on the next round if they lose, congratulate them when they win, etc. Who knows if it has any effect, but it establishes why I'm/we're there, and it makes me feel like a positive contributor.

I really like Overwatch, but I hate the fact that in order to play the "competitive mode" I need to play ranked, I don't want to rank, I just want to play seriously without having to worry about ranks. QP is a joke and the matches are too short, Ranked is full of toxic people.

As I said before, they need to put an option to play the competitive mode without it being ranked, LoL did this and I loved it, how many resources does a separate queue need? It's certainly doable.

Exactly. My highest ranking score was around 2700 but I played with a top tier zarya who carried the games. He is now at 3800 and plays solo Q. When I play solo q I end up at being gold. (Which I'm now) I don't care.

I'd say about 4 in 5 quickplay matches are worthwhile and half of those are usually close battles, I prefer that over playing ranked and feeling worthless because I had an off day and not playing my best.

This exact situation happened to me earlier this week. I was playing a quickplay match to warm up before jumping on competitive and I'm on defense with Tracer. I spent most of the match behind the enemy line and payload killing their supports and harassing anyone trying to get back from spawn. They ended up not even getting the payload to the first point so we win and I get a message from their Hanzo who said 'get owned'. He had killed me a few times (with some really nice shots) on their backline but it was funny because he spent most of the match trying to hunt me way back in their spawn not helping his team at all so I was totally fine with taking a few deaths to keep him and some other players busy. He said:

Some people really don't give a fuck but I'll keep trying to win every match, even on quickplay.

This is probably what I'm asking for, something to actually train against each other and maybe try to escalate in performance but, reading other's posts I get that's the actual premise of competitive and the matchmaking functions well even if I'm new to it.

If we add a new mode I don't think it would be the best for overwatch because they want to keep it as simple as possible;

- There's QP for quickmatches
- There's arcade for different fun modes with rewards
- There's competitive for winning

and then you have the custom and the practice range which they are not as popular as they should be, if we add a mode in all of those already mentioned there will be probably too much to choose and people is used to QP for different reasons.

Maybe an online practice mode? I don't see it being too popular to be honest.

My main complain, and I'm sorry if I didn't explain myself well is with people who just go to the match to be toxic and throw, it literally drains my will to play.

This is so sweet from you and I try my best to congratulate others, even if there are enemies, I found a lot of friends by just being a goof in the chat and cheer other's play. Most of those are people from the other team that they killed me very good.

I have my bad days and I can be salty too, not proud of it.

Sorry, can't say I agree with you. There's a mode specifically for people who want to take it seriously. It's not anyone's fault but yours that you refuse to play said mode unless your team/friends are with you.

I think I have played around 10 Competitive matches in total and I bought the game at launch. I play to have fun and if that means only playing Hanzo for 10 matches in a row well, that's what's happening.

Welcome to the casual gaming community. Not that there's anything wrong with that mentality, it's just how it is. Some gamers don't care about the objective or team play, they just want to play as the god damn talking space monkey

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I still try to win and usually pick something to round out the team but I also don't really care if the game sometimes because people on both teams dancing and doing dumb shit.

But I do get super annoyed at the sheer amount of people that play Widowmaker since it feels like she's in every single QP game. If I see the match start and it goes Widow/Hanzo/Genji I'm just gonna play whatever or leave instead of playing support for someone who can't hit a barn.

Overwatch is my favorite game on the PS4, but I have only stuck to playing the Quickplay mode. I'm kind of afraid of going into the competitive mode for three reasons: getting my ass kicked even harder than in quick play (especially by Genji and Tracer players) , not really into doing voice chat in any game, and having team mates tell me how much I suck a not helping them out by not following a "plan" of theirs. Maybe one day I'll try it out.

I've been playing the game since last December and I still can't figure out how to properly use Pharah's concussive blast. I get close enough to walls, or closer to walls and it just doesn't push me back the way I've seen players do it all the time in matches. :(

It's quick play, get over it. It's a casual match and people will do whatever they want. Also, they can do whatever they want in competitive as long as it's not against the rules, too.

I hate that too OP I wish there was something in the middle. But the reality is I just quit if there are more than 4 DPS or no tanks or healers.

wouldn't be surprised if that happens as they did that exactly that in Heroes of the Storm. A mode that's exactly like ranked, same rules and everything, but no ranks.

If you want co-ordination then find a group of people to play with or go competitive.

Quickplay is to try out heroes you're not used to and to relax from the highly stressful competitive scene.

I remember playing a match of quick play, seeing that our winston was closer to the enemy spawn than the point and saying "hey dude you're too far out, come back" and he immediately says "its quick play" hangs around there until the enemy team respawns and promptly gets merked

like dude, just because its quick play doesn't mean you're not too far out
