What were the best graphical games at E3 2017?

Vanillalite

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Star Wars Battlefront 2

I think Dice has clearly cemented themselves as the 3rd party graphics king this generation with their Battlefront and Battlefield entries.

The Anthem was the most impressive I saw from a traditional AAA sense.
Shame I doubt the final product will look anywhere near as good and we'll instead see severe downgrading as development progresses.

Yeah it's still far away and if Mass Effect is their recent example, visual downgrades will be massive :D

Gameplay and being a destiny-clone does seem good though, and nothing to downgrade gameplaywise.

When your phrasing is meant to paint feminism as anti-equality, the cause of society's downfall in this dystopian cyberpunk future, and add a gamergate hashtag? It's starts to paint a picture of what his views actually are. There's a reason people are frustrated by this game. If it didn't leave such a strong impression, people wouldn't be expressing their disappointment at the creator so much.

Yes I know. I was saying that egalitarianism is a good thing despite his twisted view on it, not saying that he is a good person.

Similarly with Trump I could say "Well he at least wants to keep America safe... :/ ". To be clear I am not supporting him in any way.

EDIT: ANYWHOOOOO let's not derail this conversation any further.

Anthem & Forza are my picks, looked amazing.

Metro is in game engine unfortunately. Spiderman is close runner up.

Except it's not exclusive, so it's like that for every console.

Unlikely, it was mind blowing because the game showcasing 1X's power, experiencing that level of fidelity on console means playing on X

Forza. And it's not really close, maybe Anthem, but it's too early to say if the game will ship looking like that. If you have a 4K TV you gotta check out Forza 7 gameplay, native 60fps goodness. It's jaw dropping

Lol at people calling downgrades on Anthem. It's Frostbite ppl. Not a Ubisoft game. It's prob going to look better than that at launch.

So basically
Anthem
GoW
Spider-Man
DBZ

Took the show for graphics. Except for Metroid 4. Cause in my imagination, it blows everything out of the water on all platforms. And it's not even close.

The last night does look amazing but unfortunately you will hear gamergate every time its mentioned in a thread

That's like complaining about people mentioning Uncharted's story in every Uncharted thread. The Last Night premise is anti-feminism, in part developed by a gamer gate supporter. Considering it's a primarily a narrative driven game, it seems completely fair to bring it up

From a technical standpoint, God of War was the clear winner. Which is pretty embarassing considering XboneX is supposed to be more powerful than the Pro, yet GoW trailer was on vanilla PS4. And then you could also argue it was one of the best from an artistic standpoint as well.

The Evil Within 2 also looked damn good too, especially in terms of art direction. Anthem looked great from a technical perspective and fairly good artistic direction.

agree with all of this

Ingame cutscenes doesnt really count imo. The actual game looks much rougher, while still impressive, looks nowhere near those screenshots

We are just talking about graphics here.

God of War was probably my top pick. Still shocked that was it running on a standard PS4.

Anthem looked too good to be true, so if it's actually true I'll be amazed.

Maybe so, but the single player will look better than multiplayer as that's the case with all DICE games, so it's definitely going to be up there as one of the best looking games this year.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Wish I had some gifs on hand but what really stood out to me:

Dragonball FighterZ
Anthem
Wolfenstein 2
God of War
Spiderman
Mario Odyssey
Splatoon 2

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Nothing impressed more than when the weather kicked in during Anthem's presentation. Holy shit at all those physics, the object density, and effects during an online co-op session. And ofc the scale looks massive. Not seeing the videos from gamersyde is doing yourself a massive disservice because holy shit it looks good.

My top 3:

1. Spider-Man
2. Anthem
3. God of War

The rest in no particular order:

Metro Exodus
Detroit: Become Human
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Days Gone
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Mario + Rabbids
Ori and will of the wisps

Please explain to us lowly plebs from a "technical standpoint" how God of War was the "clear winner"?

RoboPlato

I'd be in the dick
For me it was Spider-Man, Anthem, Metro Exodus, God of War, Dragonball FighterZ, and Battlefront 2. All of them looked excellent.

My two bits:

The latest trailer of God of War was captured running on a base PS4. It's kind of mind boggling when you look at what SSM have achieved on stock hardware.

This!lol

Res, frame rate, "clear winner" has got to be something objective, right? So what is it?

Back on topic, Anthem really looked the part. SpiderMan was impressive as well, specially the color palette.. hopefully it won't be 50% qtes though.

Days Gone, Uncharted, looked more of the same. GT Sports looked awful IMO, except for replays. Forza looked very nice but not mind blowing.

God of War! God of War!

Spider Man 🕷

For Switch it would be umm. Uhh Mario x Rabbids followed closely by Odissey

Anthem impressed me the most. After that it, Spider-Man was the second most impressive game for me. Metro looked great but I want to see gameplay.

Sure, it looked good. But clear winner? Nah. Not even close.

While it might not be a clear winner, it's right up there with the absolute best.

Wtf at the 50% qte's. Don't be rediculous lol

I swear GT Sports was supposed to look better than Forza 7, isn't that the case?

If I was to pick one game that stood out artistically above everything else this E3, I would have to give to God of War. I'll post some gifs tomorrow.

Not even close. It would be more like mentioning Quiet everytime you hear about metal gear solid V or Cindy Aurum every time someone mentions FF 15 . Most folks wouldn't even link gamergate to the game unless it gets mentioned, which it will. Considering all we have is a tweet so far and a 1 and a half minute trailer with pretty sci fi pictures with no talking ,and some music playing in the background then no its not fair to bring it up.

Edit: you know what even those comparisons were off it would be more like mentioning Chris Brown beating Rihanna every time his music comes up. Some folks will be disgusted and some won't care.

Metro Exodus - Looked stunning
Anthem - Mind blowing open world gameplay, really surprised me
Sea of Thieves - The water was insanely detailed, world looks clean and beautiful
God of War - Brilliant detail, cannot wait to see the world in this game
The Last Night - Biggest surprise of the show, pixel art + 4k visuals!
Ori 2 - More of the same excellence from Moon Studios

The Last Night, while not the "best graphics" in the strictest definition, did grab my attention for doing something so unique. Kind of like how Cuphead looks amazing, but it is simply a fresh take on something we've all seen and played before. But The Last Night gave me the same "wow" factor as Cuphead did when I first saw it.

I feel the same. The Last Night looked gorgeous and like nothing I had seen before.

On God of War, I must be the only one that was expecting it to look better. I really liked the initial reveal from last year. Thought it looked great and was pretty hyped. The latest trailer just didn't look that great to me. Dunno...

Also, Anthem looked great (but I'm expected it to be downgraded).

I'm confused on why/how you thought it looked great last year but not this year? :/

I'm not completely sure - everyone seems to have liked this years. I haven't seen the Gamersyde version of the trailer, so perhaps I should check that out.

One thing that I didn't like was the orange and light blue highlighting on various monsters. Looks very gamey and breaks the immersion for me.
