Hit Manga "One Piece" Getting Live-Action TV Show from Prison Break producer

This man:

wasn't even designed to work while moving. How the FUCK do you even adapt him, let alone anything else?!?!!?

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Even with a GoT budget, I just couldn't see it.

They would need the Black Sails budget times like 10, if not more just to pull off the different Devil Fruit powers. Imagine if everyone was a fucking Dragon from Game of Thrones in terms of how much they would need to do for SFX.

Where's my naruto live action in the west? At least then I'll have the satisfaction of seeing some random dude in an orange jumpsuit running with their arms behind them.

Man.

I always felt like Dragon Ball and One Piece were two manga that you just can't do in live action. They're too fucking weird.

You can't translate the designs to live action. You can't translate the attacks to live action. Just leave it alone.

ah well. this will probably suck, but I'll check it out.

Exactly. The powers and abilities folks pull off in One Piece is absurd in a good way. And let's not get on the topic of the different species in the manga either, like the fishmen.

Wasn't HBO or Netflix going to do a series? That would be great to watch and would easily translate to motion picture.

It died a long time ago. Del Toro was pushing it and I had some people I knew at HBO that were trying to get it off the ground. Didn't get very far from what I heard.

Maybe I could finally like One Piece since I wouldn't have to look at Oda's ugly art,

Before anyone asks:
Well drawn, yes. Pleasing art style, hell no.

Imagine One Piece as a CW show...
I can picture it now.

A cast of overly-attractive college people attend a sea voyage over the summer break, only to come upon a treasure chest that's been submerged in the deepest recesses of the ocean. Upon opening they're instantly cursed, and the only cure for it being the legendary treasure called "One Piece". Thus beings their voyage across the seas, but beware, some uncharted areas weren't meant to be explored...

Never watched the show, but looking at the characters and reading the posts in here it seems like the type of show that you could make incredibly diverse and inclusive including Asian American actors.

don't forget the luffy x sanji x nami love triangle!

Is this even going to be a straight adaptation or an "adaptation" where its just a show about quirky pirates searching for a legendary treasure that just shares some of the DNA of the manga/anime? I don't think they can pull off anything close to a direct translation of the original material and will do something very loose and sort of like One Piece.

On the list of things that I'd never be able to predict happening, this is certainly on it. What the helllllllllll??
CAST 👏 ASIAN- 👏 AMERICAN 👏 PEOPLE 👏
The fuck?

If anything One Piece is one of the few properties that can take total racial liberties with the characters. Anything goes, there is no "Asia" in One Piece.

Who is the target audience for this? I appreciate One Piece, but if the show itself isn't going to do well here, why make a CGI monstrosity for... Netflix? Toonami? Those are the only 2 avenues this could possibly be going down.

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Imagine a live action show trying to replicate shit like Law's Devil Fruit power.

Not that they'll get that far.

Not just Law
All the Logia users would be a hassle
Whitebeard and his "air-quakes"
All the Fishmen
Big people. Not giants, just really big humans.

The world is too insane to properly do in live-action
What they should do is a new animated series from Disney or Frederator or Dreamworks (at least the Voltron team).

lol

I'm like 99% certain this will never get out of development hell.

But if it actually does, I'm eager to see the trainwreck.

Spend that money on a HxH 2011 like retelling animated by Madhouse and relaunch the show from the beginning (with the dub being handled by Funi) in the west instead.
