Trophy Rarity is fascinating

Can one play TellTale episode games out of order?

Cause i just noticed The Walking Dead S1 on PS4 the platinum sits at 46% while the trophy for the last episode is 47%. I mean if you get that trophy you also get the plat because you've collected all the other trophies. Both percentages should be the same.

Makes you realise how few people actually play games to the full. Add on top how relatively few people buy most games, even mega AAA hypehype stuff, and you see how niche we all are.

Very true.

I think it's interesting when a game like P5, which gets a lot of critcism for being too long, has a similar or better completion rate than some much shorter games.

Currently it's at 30.5%.

I think you can? And it just imports a stock save

Pretty sure you can play any ep and it will randomly generate choices til that point

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
If I am not mistaken, that trophy is for watching a special movie that doesn't require the player to finish the game at all, the movie is accesible from the main start-up menu.

I think there is a trophy for defeating the last boss I think, a hidden one, I forgot its name though.

Nah the description of The Eternal Calm trophy is
Defeat Yu Yevon
.

The one you're talking about is the A Journey's Catalyst trophy, and that has a 42.07% obtainment percentage.

Interestingly RPGs seem to have the highest completion rates.

Probably the genre that most often allows you to play at your own pace. I honestly found 3-4h Call of Duty campaigns more exhausting than a typical 40+ hour rpg.

Rare trophies are either for the pure elitist in overcoming difficulty or those that are patient enough to tolerate bad game design to the point that it is pure torture, and if accomplishes will question life if it was worth the time and effort in doing so. A bad trophy is collecting flags in Assassin's Creed and using a guide, that wasn't fun at all. Who would go through that torture for what type of reward? Was it worth it?

I would argue people who play RPGs are more likely to be the type to finish games.

A shooter campaign is likely to be less compelling too, regardless of how long it is. Especially in shooters that are multiplayer focused.

I'm wondering if systems in stores for testing/demo mode count in this. In other words i'm assuming not everyone who start a game is necessarilly a player.

A lot of them are probably offline though and also for a long time PS4 trophies weren't syncing automatically.

Yeah his kind of stuff is fascinating. I always enjoy unlocking a rare trophy too.

Out of curiosity I just looked at the Minecraft trophy and only 1.2% of players have the platinum...I thought that would be a lot higher.

It just proves there are more people collecting games than actually playing them.
That's pretty much me in a nutshell. I am part of the problem.

Also, the capitalized 'R' in this thread's subject header is messing with me. Trophy Rarity is indeed fascinating.

What always freaks me out:

-You only show up on trophy lists if you actually start the application
-Game where you get a trophy for starting the game or sitting through the opening dialogue or what have you
-"87% of players have this trophy"

And you're like... wait, 13% of people started up the application but didn't make it 5 minutes in and never returned? Really?

Then there are other games like OP's Bloodborne where it's fucking rock hard yet it feels like everybody has the platinum because of the type of gamer it attracts. (And by everybody I mean more than 10%, which is a huge amount for a plat.) With Bloodborne you can see that if you're good enough to get past the first boss, there's a strong chance you'll complete the game. Other games see a more gradual decline as people lose interest.

I have some trophies in Don't Starve that weren't that hard to get but are crazy rare. I don't get it. I have some super rare Spelunky ones but that makes more sense - that game is highly skill-dependent.

i suspect basically all trophy data is fucked because of the supercommon massive amounts of account thefts that take place before people put on 2fa.
they're downloading the big games, starting up each application to make sure it downloaded/is patched and then taking that console offline forever to sell on second hand market

I don't know why this shocks you werent those games completely fucked on 360 AND pc and had players frustratingly switching platforms for greener pastures between episodes?

This is from Deadpool.
These two achievements are literally free. It even says so in the name of both. You get them while watching the intro cutscene. Pretty sure you also get these if you skip the intro cutscene. You have to do literally nothing but start a new game and you will get these achievements.

Almost 10% of all people who bought and started up the game on Steam did not even get these achievements.

That's pretty insane XD
On PS4
First Trophy shows 98.7%
Second one shows 98.6% (o_O did some people just turn off their consoles after the first one XD)

I find it interesting when a game like Bloodborne seems to have relatively high completion/trophy percentages for some late(r)-game & hard stuff and some games where you automatically get five trophies within the first hour can have, like, 90% for the first trophy and 10% for the fifth one.

I'm not shocked about people migrating from other platforms. I was a little shocked to find out that you could access the episodes out of order. My first thought was that people would rather see the ending first than to play them chronologically but i can also see people finishing where they left off.

Yeah, I actually tend to drop games that are 10-15 hours after 3 or 4 hours if I'm not too interested, but if it's a longer game like an RPG I can usually get 15-25 hours before I decide if I want to keep going or not. I guess because with shorter games you've pretty much seen all you're going to see game play wise pretty quickly, whereas longer games dole out that stuff a lot more slowly.

Don't Starve was one of the first free PS4 games on PS Plus, so a lot of its players probably got it for free and gave it a try because there were barely any other games to play.

I feel like 20-30% is the average.

Its kind of impressive to me when a game has a high completion rate

I think I remember Souls games have a surprisingly high completion rate.

I Think that its because the people who buy it likes the challenge. I have not played any of them Because ppl say they are hard. I dont waste my time in Hard games :)

I love this feature more than I should. But getting one that's been achieved by a low percentage of other players feels good.
