No Man's Sky 1.3 Update releasing this week (portals, expanded story, and more)

Still $60 on steam lol.

It's on sale on PSN as well as humble bundle. I'm sure it will go on sale on Steam as soon as the update lands.

Also, I'm literally shaking with excitement right now. This looks so good. As someone who has been a fan through all the negativity I'm on cloud 9 right now this looks so freaking good.

I have a launch PS4. Haven't made the jump to the pro yet. And not sure if I want to unless a really good deal comes along.

Thanks for heads up.

I have an i5-7400, gtx1060 with 3GB beam, and 8GB RAM. Nothing super powerful. Just got it recently. Haven't had a desktop in a long time. All of my old ones died. Was on a HP laptop from 2008. Upgraded from Vista to 7 to 10, lol.

I feel like a GTX1060 should be more than good enough.

Previous patches have come on Sundays, so its not out of the running. But tomorrow is the anniversary, so I think good money is on tomorrow.

No shit? Now that you mention it I do think I remember those other patches on sunday.

Oh this is nice. :D One big step closer to stuff that was shown in the early trailers. I wonder if we'll eventually see starships flying through planet atmospheres too?

Mission shit

This has me a bit worried though. I hope it also offers quests that are more interesting, perhaps branching (dynamically even), than just going from A to B for a reward. I'm sure there will be bounty quests too but they're also not all that interesting (plus we already have that in the game).

The missions and new map look like complete copies of how Elite handles those things. I love Elite so that's making me more interested, but hopefully they didn't copy Elite's problems too.

As someone who doesn't play Elite what are Elite's problems that NMS could end up having?

Got the PS4 CE at launch, played it for a couple of weeks and dropped it; didn't hate it as much as a lot of folks but it was disappointing in many ways that have been discussed to deat. Despite my wife pestering me to sell it multiple times I held onto it because I was hoping they would get it more up to where I was hoping it was going to be, and it looks like this may finally be it! Very excited for these patch notes.

The procedural missions in Elite can be cool but they're mostly just there for grinding. You rarely take a mission because the gameplay sounds fun.

I've not played Elite but generated quests typically aren't interesting in games so I don't see it being that exciting a feature. If the rewards are good though, it could balance out any grind.

NMS planets are not Elite planets. That alone would make boring quests interesting enough for an exploration nerd like myself.

No it's not horrible by any means. Just interesting that the leaked NMS mission is an almost exact copy of an Elite mission.

Space trucker

You take a mission because you got to make money somehow in this universe and you want to be a bounty hunter someday

I'd argue that what happens during your travels and objectives is more important in Elite than the actual objective.

Let's hope so. Seeing nanite cluster as a reward is a big fat NOPE for me for that mission lol.

I'm confused. Assuming this hasn't released yet. We have a specific day or is it just left at "sometime this week"

It's funny that within the last year NMS looks to have surpassed Elite (that mission structure + on foot exploration, etc).

Time will tell.

Even if they end up being kind of boring, I'd rather grind by doing deliveries and combat than shooting crystals and tending to a nip farm. So on that alone it's an improvement for people who aren't as into crafting and farming.

Wow, if even half the implications of these screenshots are true, they seriously undersold this patch of "story and portals" :-D

Slowly but surely the lies are becoming true.

Sean's lies seemed to be evidence of his people-pleasing nature (I say this as a fellow pleaser), which is probably what is driving him to deliver big on these updates and something we should (ironically enough) be grateful for. I imagine he's learned his lesson which will be great for future endeavors, and in response we're finally getting to see the game that I think even he hoped No Man's Sky would be when it launched.

Moral of the story: Lie because it'll get you in trouble and make you work that much harder to regain everyone's trust.

(i'm kidding. please don't lie)

This is exactly how they released the last two updates.

They totally glossed over base sharing, photomode, most of the vehicles etc.

This week. I assume they are waiting for the PS4 cert process to finish, as the updates usually released on the same day if I remember correctly.

Remember earlier when I asked if the WHOIS waking titan trailer planet commands held more meaning beyond easter egg meta?

I'm wondering if they're part of the "new worlds" mentioned?

As much as this game was shit on and how much I shit on it upon release, I gotta give credit where credit is due for them putting in the effort for free substantial updates well after release.

It was said that the data mining revealed the update page was supposed to go live on the 11th. Patch notes come out few hours before the update drops. Take that with a grain of salt.

I never made it to the center and torn if I want to reset everything for the new game or hold off updating until I do.

This is assuming everything gets reset and there's no separate mode between vanilla and new content...

Exploring in games like this is something you do with your own initiative though. It's why many of us have liked this game from launch, without the need for a mission marker to show us where to go or a story beat to keep us amused. Simple, repetitive missions aren't really going to add to that sense of exploration, it may actually do the opposite.

I don't think generated missions are a terrible addition to the game, but I do hope the quests are varied (or as I said in my previous post, branching or perhaps can change dynamically on the go) or at least give good rewards to be worth bothering with.
