Just disgraceful, no place for this in football.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for five games after he was sent off in Real Madrid's 3-1 win against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup first leg on Sunday.

He was given a one-match ban for being shown two yellow cards and a further four for pushing the referee in the back after he had been sent off.

The bookings at the Nou Camp were for taking off his shirt to celebrate his goal to make it 2-1 and for a dive.

He will miss Wednesday's second leg.

Ronaldo, 32, will have 10 days to appeal.

Never touch the Ref, but if your gonna do it, you have to do more than a gentle caress of the back

Surprised the ref didn't go down like he had been shot, though

The very first thing you're taught in sports is never, ever, EVER touch or do anything physical towards a referee, umpire, whatever. Shout, yell, get up in the face, whatever. But never touch them, spit on them, or anything.

I remember as a referee getting kicked in the shin refing a high school match. I could hear the gasps of the crowd.

Come on it's not attack. He slightly pushed him but it's still disgraceful and he deserves the 5 game ban. I hopw they hit him with a fine too. I love the guy but he fucked up. Never seen him do this before. He must be on edge with his tax dodging trial going on and all

I can understand Ronaldo being mad, especially when the same ref gave a clearly diving Suarez a penalty.

But don't ever touch the refs, even if it's a light bump like that.

What? He barely tapped the ref on the back at best. I mean don't be stupid and touch a ref, but come on.... an attack? Is this just some crazy thread title or is this how it is really being reported? It wasn't even a push lol

lol at "disgraceful attack"

I don't like the guy, and he deserves the ban because you never put your hands on an official, but it was the lightest of pushes.

"Attack" is an overstatement here, but pushing the ref is still definitely wrong and a huge fuck up. Dude deserves the ban.

Being a star player does not make you above the rules.

I have nothing against Ronaldo. I just don't like seeing people break the rules especially in this kind of action.
