Kong: Skull Island Director Takes on Cinema Sins

Kong deserves to be ripped apart, not a good film. Decent at best.

Okay, I haven't seen the movie myself, but this makes no sense at all -- how can a film that's "decent at best" deserve to be ripped apart because it's "not a good film"?

The issue isn't just Cinema Sins, the issue is people don't want to engage in actual discussion about a movie if they want to hate it, and they don't look at multiple sources, everybody is just looking for the confirmation to their pre-established opinions.

So basically Cinema Sins is guilty of the greatest cinema sin of all.

if RLM is lowest common denominator, then what is something like chris stuckman?

I mean... Probably in the same boat? I find it really hard to find good, insightful, meaningful film crit on YouTube. CineFix and Nerdwriter1 are the two that come to mind, and they're usually not operating in the traditional review structure.

I'm all for people shitting on Cinema Sins. They almost always come off as mean spirited to me and 80% of their sins are because they don't factor in context for whatever they're talking about.
This post doesn't contain a lap dance.

But its right.

Cinemasins isn't meant to be a serious reviewer though, it's comedy. They literally have sins that are on the lines of "scarlett johanson isn't my wife in this scene". RLM is mostly comedy too.

Which sin would that be? Literally doing what it says in the tin?

A Christmas Story.

I'll fight anybody over that one.

- Ralphie's father, a middle-aged professional doesn't know that word "Fragile"? *DING*
- Scott Farkus is twice Ralphie's size; there's no way he should have gone down that easy. *DING*

Every Frame A Painting, Folding Ideas, and Lindsay Ellis are three really good ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

Hell, I even like watching Moviebob's stuff, even if I often disagree with him, simply because his criticism/analysis goes beyond "Movie made a mistake!"

Will have to check those out! I'm not familiar.

I've watched a few bits of pieces of cinema sins and while I'm sure skull island isn't a fantastic movie, their criticisms I've seen are mostly completely ignorant, stupid bullshit that would be outclassed by most first year film student critiques.

What does that have to do with anything?

Who was talking about his favorite movies?

Because cinemasins isn't a review/serious critic channel. It's at most a satirical show about nitpicking literally every possible detail of a movie just for fun. FOR FUN....is that a hard concept to understand?

Cinema sins are terrible.

They're part of the whole movement of people thinking they're clever for noticing discrepancies and inconsistencies in fiction, nitpicking everything like it's impressive.

It's not. You're just an obtuse, boring, blank state of an asshole, without a single creative thought in your head.

Why is that so? Cinema sins has sinned and nitpicked every movie under the sun and moon basically. Jeremy has sinned some of his all time favorite movies.

What does that matter, the output is the output.

If I took a dump on a copy of The Force Awakens and left it on Bobby's doorstep, does the fact that I actually really, really love The Force Awakens change that?

No! Bobby still has a shit-covered copy of The Force Awakens on his doorstep.

Which is basically what Cinemasins does to movies.

How does your non-sequitur response to my post prove that though?

What are you even arguing? Do you know?

what happens when it's not fun

I thought Skull Island was an exceedingly dumbly written, but amusingly directed film. So I'll say Cinema Sins is stupid, and although Roberts' criticism comes off as a little "oh my god you suck", I think he has some valid points.

That being said, who cares about Cinema Sins. It's dumb. Move on.

Foundflix is great for horror/scifi. Especially like the ending explained series he does.

I love CinemaSins.

But anyone who takes it seriously is silly. It’s meant to be a fun poke at all the flaws in movie logic. It’s not supposed to be a total breakdown of every nuance of the movie. It’s literally supposed to just be a guy sitting watching a movie and saying “that is so stupid. It makes no sense and would never happen”.

If you get uppity at a silly YouTube channel making fun of your movie you have skin as thin as the President.

This is basically the "what have you written?" rebuttal of criticism, though, combined with a side of "it's just a movie, stop thinking so hard about it".

No one is leaving a dump on your doorstep.

How are we supposed to gauge a subjective property that will differ from person to person?

I guess you just watch another YouTube channel? I dunno.

How are you getting that out of what was posted?

There are literally examples in this thread showing it literally isnt that.

A majority of the time he says something doesn't make sense, is factually untrue and makes sense if he paid attention or understood the context.

Sometimes, he'll criticize something he doesn't understand, but at the same video, it will show he's quite capable of doing research via google so he can add a "sin",

So it really shows he's doing much more than "that is so stupid it makes no sense and would never happen".

Didn't know what this channel was until today. Skimmed through a couple videos, and yup, that's truly the type of criticism/content that appeals to the lowest common denominator of person. Just a bunch of snide bullshit gussied up and portrayed as "criticism"

Cinema Sins always struck me a simultaneously too nitpicky and not nitpicky enough.

Misses too many genuinely bad and funny moments. Often marks something not particularly egregious as a "cinema sin".

Overall misses the point of criticism in favour of easily digestible video content.

You mean "fun criticism" !

CinemaSins is, literally, just pointing out flaws in films... if you don't want your film on it, don't have flaws.

It's also comedy, I'm fairly certain those guys onlt nitpick because it's funny.
No film is flawless. No director claims their films are such. There's an inherent compromise to filmmaking.

They used to be amusing at first but nowadays they just come off as mean spirited and nitpicky for the sake of it.

Also 15~ minutes on average. Eh.
