Marvel's The Defenders |OT| Featuring The Worst Iron Fist - August 18th on Netflix

Have to say the show is not bad at all .
Having all the characters together was fun .
Nothing great but better than the last few Marvel\Netflix shows.

Only watched the 1st three before sleep, but I liked it. Each character felt like a continuation of their storyline from where they left off, and their crossing paths made sense.

Guess I was most disappointed in the episode runtimes. Think the 1st 2 episodes were 45 minutes or less.

One complaint I have so far, and it's more the culmination of all the Marvel Netflix shows, is how similar the style and look is among them. I dunno how to properly phrase it. Reckon it's for consistency sake but it's making this feel very plain.

Second complaint is the hip-hop following Luke Cage around. Like, why.

Episode 2: liking the slow build & seeing the first interactions/run ins between the pairs of the four. Good stuff.

Love Jessica.

Imagine Cage's life, hip hop following him wherever he goes. Dude must be depressed as fuck.

Just finished the first episode. The hip hop music playing everytime Luke appeared is stereotypical and over the top.

Are they gonna play hip hop in every damn luke cage scene for the entire season? Its annoying when every other character gets an original score or not any score and it is also very stereotypical.

Only watched ep 1 so far.

Only one episode in, the first was a little odd since it was more or less four different shows running at the same time, just picking up where DD S2, JJ/IF/LC S1 left off. I imagine it will feel more focused once they all start to team up.

Is supersplaining an official term?
I feel Matt's conversation with the kid in the wheelchair should led off with "Now I'm going to give you advice seemingly based around how I overcame my disability through personal experience. Honestly though, it's superpowers motherfucker!"

I laughed out loud in ep 3 when Luke and Danny fought back to back and they played RTJ.

Time to scrap this shit and have Feige make a Marvel Knights imprint for the MCU.

Episode 3 is what I've been waiting for. Now things can pick up.

Also, I agree the hip hop music thing is weird (though there were a few scenes so far where it wasn't present I felt), but if it's RTJ being played then it's an automatic pass from me lmao.

Why are action scenes shot so badly? WTF? The first episode had terrible random camera cuts with shaky cam. 2nd episode also has it. How can there be a camera angle where the camera is tilted? Ugh.

Guys, what if Mike Colter is actually just wearing an MP3 player that's playing hip-hop all the time?

Also, it's kind of weird to think that, with the city-smashing earthquake in New York, at least Spider-Man wouldn't take a look to see what's going on.

The fight chronography and camera work is so so bad in this show. Often you don't know who is fighting who and where. Murdock will fight someone and suddenly it'll be a close up shot of someone picking up a brick but you don't know who it is, turns out it's Like Cage hitting someone else...but I don't know if he's the same guy Murdock was fighting.

Way too much shaky cam, way too many cuts and close ups Ugh ! Where's the guy who did fight scenes for Daredevil? It seems like it's the Iron Fist guy's handiwork.

From this reactions... Feelsbad. Seems like I can't trust this showrunner too

Steven S. DeKnight please come back lol

Just finished episode 3. First couple were a little slow but this one hit on all cylinders. Digging it so far. Fight choreography is better than in everything but DD. Thank Christ it's only 8 episodes. Hope they stick with that.

While I do remember the Hip Hop beat sound intro when it switches to LC scenes, the thing that stood out to me more, was the yellow/orange color filter they went with in his scenes. It's pretty good, but mostly I remember the early scene of him on the bus, crossing the river. Just a fantastic shot scene of the city in that light.

Only watched episode 1 so far, thought it was really good. I'm a little sick of "we're gonna destroy the city" plots after Batman Begins and Arrow, though.

I was just about to post about the character specific color filters. While the show has been alright thus far (halfway through ep 2) I constantly notice the filters and I find it annoying as hell. Purple for the Jessica's, yellow for the Luke's, green for the Fist's, so far it looks like Daredevil has the only normal colorization but I might just be blind to it. I'm kindof hoping they get rid of it once everyone is together.

Yeah exactly my problem. Daredevil had nicely shot action scenes. They have dropped the ball on this one.

Why is it only 8 episodes?!?!

Almost all of the recent Netflix shows are 8 or 10 episodes.

Ozark had 10.
Atypical had 8.
Defenders has 8.

No more 13-episode seasons?

Why are you saying it as if you're upset? It's great that it's much shorter.

Anyways they had a deal for like 60 episodes; the previous shows aside from DDS2 each had 13, so this was left with 8.

I feel Matt's conversation with the kid in the wheelchair should led off with "Now I'm going to give you advice seemingly based around how I overcame my disability through personal experience. Honestly though, it's superpowers motherfucker!"

The weirder part is that the kids mom just fucking vanishes for 4-5 minutes so that Matt could have his little cliche speech.

Ah, gotta love the "let's play a hip hop or R&B song" every time a black character comes on. I hope it's not like this every episode

Eh, can't make you like a villain obviously, but let's not act like Kilgrave ain't carry the fuck out of Jessica Jones lol

Kilgrave was the best part of JJ and that is what makes it bad. Tennant didn't act well in it for me and hammed it up way too much for my liking. Having seen Tennant in a lot of other shows it is by far one of his worst parts. It's why I would only count DD 1 and 2 as the shows I can say I enjoyed watching ( and even they got a boring).

Didn't give one.

Haven't seen him in other stuff, so no comment there. :p

Are they makong more shows after defenders? What about defenders S2?

Everyone's gettin a S2, Daredevil's getting a S3, and Punisher is getting a show. No word on a Defenders S2.

Episode 2

Man, between this and ep. 1, it's weird seeing Gao answer to someone else. I'm liking Alexandra so far, though.

I've missed Matt and Jessica so much. Their scenes are the best parts of the show right now. Misty too. Lordt.

Also some nice transitions between scenes.

Yeeeah, she's just nothing to me so far.

Episode 4:
Stick! The team getting to know each other & the banter was great. I like Luke & Danny's chemistry especially.

After watching it all I think it is good. Not bad, not great, just good. The villains drag the show down quite a bit. Disappointing after characters like Kilgrave and Fisk.
