Marvel's The Defenders |OT| Featuring The Worst Iron Fist - August 18th on Netflix

This show proves that it's an intentional character choice. He has no "good" writing for any of his lines - he's treated almost the same IF Season 1. Not that Cage has much good writing in this show either but for some reason y'all think his acting is fine too, but Fist is still written as a giant baby in this.

Yeah, it's definitely a choice by the writers, it just seems like a completely bizarre one. Honestly, I don't get what the intent is. If he's not training, he generally meditating, so why they paint him out to be an odious easily provoked me me me!! asshole just seems outlandish. Sure he might now yet be a fully realised Iron Fist, but he should have some sense of self-control and awareness beyond his emotions at this juncture after years of training.

Episode 5

So all
side characters got to meet too!
That's awesome. I'm just sad that Jessica didn't
bring Hogarth with her like she did with Trish and Malcolm.
. That was disappointing...

The difference in writing and the art of establishing a threatening villain between DD S1 and Defenders is really jarring. Fisk was more threatening offscreen and sitting in restaurants than Alexandria was during any moment in Defenders.

Finally some team action in Ep3. Hopefully it maintains momentum going forward but judging from reactions here, it doesn't look to be the case.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Getting close to the end of the season and while its got its fair share of issues, I'm enjoying it a lot more than the last couple of Marvel Netflix shows. The shorter episode count leads to much less dead air and a quicker pace to things and the ensemble cast allows everyone to bounce off each other which makes things generally a lot more interesting to watch or at least a bit more varied. The Hand also make for a better threat this time around and Sigourney Weaver makes for a good villain though
of course they've got to kill her off.
Not great but its watchable.

I'm watching episode 5, I really feel like they're underpowering Luke, badly.

What? No way...

Yeah, I know what you mean.
By any measure, he should be brushing off regulation bad guys with ease, especially after the fight between himself and Danny, where Danny had to deploy the Iron Fist to even impact him.

I don't get the impression the writers have a clear handle on each characters respective powers in relation to either themselves, each other or the world as a whole, or perhaps they're afraid to commit in the event they write themselves into a corner

Two episodes in right now and honestly, I'm loving it.

Particularly loved the end of the first episode -
the whole "earthquake happens, cuts to show what everyone's doing" is the most comic book scene ever. Seems JUST like the ending you'd see in Marvel Event Issue #1.

It's not great, and I really doubt it's going to hit the highs of DD or JJ, but it's just a lot of fun seeing the characters bounce around. It's like... I dunno, a sample platter. Just a quick bite of everyone from the past few shows.

Some of the dialogue has been truly awful, though. Like, that whole conversation that Danny and Colleen had in the helicopter was like... generically awful, and delivered in a super stilted way. A lot of it just feels generic, churned out. Cox brings tons of heart to Matt in any context, and Ritter makes bitchiness an artform, so they do a good job carrying on even when the material's week. But Colter and Jones fall pretty flat whenever their dialogue falters.

But the novelty of "HEY IT'S THOSE GUYS FROM THOSE SHOWS!" still hasn't worn off for me, so like I said, I'm loving it.

Ep 1

The Luke hoodie up cut into Jessica hoodie down was very nice!

* * *

I did the (suggested by someone on here...) watch only Ep 01 and E13 of Iron Fist and I don't think I missed out on too much! It was actually way less confusing than I had hoped for and....the finale of IF was the best use of Claire thus far, imo (in a non-Daredevil series).

Watched the first episode. What a snooze fest. Nothing happened! Where were the team up shenanigans? Matt's still got it, JJ is okay, Luke needs more swag but Iron Fist is just awful. Drains the screen of all energy. And The Hand continue to be awful villains. Grrrrrr.

Over halfway through now and really enjoying it. Iron Fist is even almost likeable here. Almost.

Overall though this is great so far, don't quite understand the hate it's getting.

You kinda proved his point. That was in his own show. In Defenders he gets kicked around and knocked down a bunch. I thought they somewhat nerfed his power here too.

End show spoilers.
Elektra knocked him out by kicking him. lol

I wish they had explained what made the Black Sky so special 'cus she kinda got her ass kicked by DD at the end and before that beat everyone in ways that didn't seem all that special.

EPISODE 8

And finished. I'll miss the show; my favorite one (I love crossovers).

I cried when...
Matt didn't come through the door.

Yeah that was laughable

JJ's fluctuating strength remains the most baffling thing in the Marvel Netflix universe. She should be the strongest in the group, bar none, especially since she has no combat skills. Luke's primary contribution to the group should be his indestructible nature, not being the muscle.

Last episode spoiler:
JJ holding the elevator was the only time she appears stronger than Luke.

What are the chances this gets a second season?

All the characters are getting another standalone season. It stands to reason that there would be one more Defenders after them.

All that build up for the hole and wall only to have what was behind it end up looking like a movie set ripped from mortal kombat.

Damn the hand ended up being lame af.

I think I enjoyed it for the novelty of seeing everyone come together and calling out Danny for being a punk. But the editing was pretty atrocious in some of the later fights and the villains were all pretty undercooked. Definitely doesn't reach the heights of Daredevil Season 1.

Watching Danny get
his ass whooped by Daredevil & Jess was so satisfying lmao.

You guys should label your spoilers like the OP says. Most people aren't going to blindly click on random spoilers. Is the spoiler from the first episode, or the last? Who knows!?
