Thats why Nintendo should just burried Metroid when they had the chance. It is not worth it, trying to please those fickle fanbase.

Sakamoney I'm not interested in it... and all that bullshit (buy a game you didn't ask for and maybe we'll do the one you're asking for) would make me even less interested in it.

I don't want amiibo

I don't want to stop moving to shoot

I don't want to play on 3DS

I don't want super abilities that go against Metroid history

... But I want more 2D Metroid
Amiibo - you dont need them to enjoy the game

Stop moving to shoot - you dont need too, lots of previews show samus running and gunning in different directions like in previous metroids, only the 360 aiming looks to be only usable while stationary

3ds - well then, this seems like your problem

Super abilities - and what abilities are those, did you have a fit when they introduce shinespark in super, or the grapple beam, or x-ray, which is basically the same as the first aeon ability you get, how about ice and difusion missiles from fusion, or are you talking about the parry, like, what a travesty that nintendo decided that regular enemies should be able to do more than just moving in one direction and decided that samus needed something to help her deal with that, something to complement her shooting, i'm sorry, but this is a stupid complaint

Wait what?

You don't have to stop to shoot. You only stay stationary while shooting if you're doing the new 360-degree free aiming (since it doesn't have twin-stick shooter controls). EDIT: Beaten.

Does anyone know how Pikmin sells? I thought that franchise isn't the hottest in terms of sales, but development continues.

I think Nintendo should keep supporting some of these smaller franchises to satiate a core base and keep some diversity in their lineup. Heck, use the same engine again if you have to. Outsource to smaller devs. There seems to be no shortage of smaller external devs making Metroidvania these days, it seems.

I'd buy it even if I'm not a fan of backtracking. I'm grateful for the detailed map.

Metroid Prime 1 really confused me if I don't play it back to back.

Pikimin has Miyamoto. That's like his favorite franchise outside of Mario. He'll probably never let it die.

As for outsourcing, well Mercury Steam is helping.

Pikmin is favorite IP of Miyamoto. It is his pet project thats why it continue. The moment Miyamoto retired, u can bet ur arse it will also end there.

Apparently, taking your 3DS out of the closet is a very complex task for some people in this thread.

Not only that, you can get a freaking 2DS for $50 bucks and play it and just sell it back or gift it to a nephew or something.

I swear, some people here are acting like the game is Final Fantasy All the Bravest.

This is less likely to be nefarious 'big business holding franchises hostage' and more likely a simple 'businesses wanting to keep discussion on thing they're trying to sell rather than future nebulous thing'.

But I still don't like this trend of 'well if you buy x maybe we'll make y'. They need to find a better way to phrase it which doesn't sound as bad.

I'd like to buy a new 2D Metroid, but I don't want to buy it on 3DS...

Thid. And i have a 3ds. I mean its even not a good test. Many will pirate this game and will push their money into switch games. And thats a bit sad. I wish somehow that this game would be available on both systems...

We all understand that Sakomoto's statement goes without saying. Obviously no sales = bad news for franchise. Understand that fans have been out in the cold ever since MP3 - more than that they've been spat upon by Nintendo as they shovel crappy games out that basically served as soil for Metroid's burial. People not wanting Other M and FF could have caused Nintendo to say "wow I guess no one likes Metroid", and indeed it seemed for a while like that was going to be the case. MP4 and SR being announced at the same time still feels like a miracle.

So considering the experience that fans are fresh off, it should come as no surprise that some people still remember having to choose between buying a bad game or seeing their franchise die.

I'm not speaking for every single Metroid fan, but feeling that fresh wound does not make a fan shitty. It means the company was shitty to the fans for a long time.

I get that sentiment because I am a fan of Command and Conquer, but the thing is that you see posts here immediately going for the jugular without even reading. That's my whole chagrin. And there are even who, after being explained, continued to double down on this.

I'm not even going to discuss about the "soiling" of Metroid, I'm strictly just talking about the fan reaction in this thread and how very fragile they are with regards to the interpretation of a quote that is easy to get if you don't hold a certain, immediate disdain.

Besides, aren't fans all up for fangame that they even shit on this upcoming 3DS game because of it? Don't claim CnD because you know where to get that fangame anyway.

Sakurai will make Ridley playable in Smash if Samus Returns sells 5 million copies.

No see that's the joke. You get 10 Metroid reps but none of them are Ridley! Even Kraid gets playable!

*looks at thread*

Good grief, some people.. "Oh man I can't believe Sakamoto would threaten me into buying something I secretly want on something else!" It's pretty simple for me though; I'm going to myself a copy next month because I want to play it on 3DS.

3DS, you awesome little thing; you've given me a lot of cool stuff over the years.

Well the same thing was pretty much said for the Fire Emblem series shortly before Awakening released and now look at where we are with the franchise.

We can do this Gaf!

Quick Question: Does it work on launch on 3DS? Because as much as I love Metroid I'm not buying a new handheld for one game before dropping it. I plan on getting a Switch for Mario and future Nintendo titles already.

It honestly boggles my mind why development for this game wasn't shifted to Switch, or at least have it as a downloadable game on Switch.

The game works on any 3DS, though any n3DS enhancements haven't been made known if they do exist.

Not sure if this is what you are asking, but this game can be played on all models of 3ds, including the ones from the systems launch yes.

Do you mean does it work on a launch 3DS as opposed to a new 3DS? I assume so, there's nothing about it being new 3DS exclusive as far as I've seen. I figure that would have been mentioned somewhere...

And as to the bolded, it's been in development for several years I'm sure and the 3DS and Switch are not all that similar in terms of hardware. It would likely be a bit of a big task to have shifted development. There's always a chance they port it later though.

Not sure i'll be buying this one but we'll see. The thought of going back to a 3DS really bothers me.

You know what really bothers me? Going back and playing an O.G. Gameboy game. It was a tedious, near joyless pain in the ass back to play, let alone complete (I 100%ed it) back in the day, and QoL improvments + colour graphics are not going to mitigate these facts, let alone the elephant in the room that is "Why is this elephant in the room and not a NEW 2D Metroid?"

Go watch the 3D trailer on 3DS.

I was in camp "Might as well buy it to support Metroid and hopefully it will be good" until I played it yesterday at the NWC qualifier.

I'm now fully sold. Fluid, fast, beautiful, and still feels like 2D Metroid!

Day one. Very excited.

They really should release a demo. It would be pretty easy to just end it after your first Metroid encounter and gives a good feel for the gameplay.

I will say the 3D was not great. I thought the background depth would play really well with everything after watching the video on the eShop. But it was very messy and uncoordinated in practice. Not a huge loss though. I'd probably play with it off regardless.

I just finished Ocarina of Time 3D on my 3DS.

It was fine. Reading here I was sure it was going to bite me or murder my family
Guess what, you can still play on 3DS in 2017 perfectly fine!

Someone should write an article about that.

Ya know.
Porting the game to Switch to increase samus return sales would make total sense.

My money is waiting for you, Ninty.

The game was heavily built into the 3ds for one. Porting it would definitely take some time and money.

Would it be worth going through that when zero mission flopped as the last 2d game?

This still bothers me. It was a fantastic game, where the heck was everybody?
