Overwatch |OT10| That'll do pig, that'll do

Again, Mercy is highly sought after by the enemy team more than any other character. Obviously every character has to worry about positioning, but don't pretend that for Mercy it is much more important than for most others.

Plenty of characters can do their jobs from a distance. Hanzo, Pharah, Widow, Bastion, Torb's Turret, Symmetra's Turrets, Junkrat, McCree, and so on. These character can get into a position or vantage point, and basically hang out. A good ( and I stress good here) Mercy player is constantly jumping from teammate to teammate determing who is contributing the most damage that might need a boost, or who needs healing.

And I'm sorry but comparing her to Zen is just not the right call. For instance, as a Tracer, if I approach a Mercy, my concern is Mercy leaping to a teammate before I get the kill. If I approach a Zen, my concern is him turning to me and popping me in the head and killing me. Zen has the tools to defend himself at the ready. Mercy does not.

Zen is a 3-star difficulty hero, Mercy is a 1-star difficulty hero. This, in and of it self, should already be telling in the difference between their skill ceilings.

Playing mercy is not trivial, but she has a relatively low skill ceiling compared to the rest of the roster. Not to say playing her is mindless, but it's simply not that hard even at high levels of play. As with Overwatch in general, the game itself takes a lot of thought to play correctly, but this is true for all heroes.

Would it be too greedy to also want a small buff to D.Va's baby form?

Just something that would make it a little easier to survive. I'm thinking giving her a double jump like Genji, but have it be because of rocket heels like Samus Zero Suit in Smash Bros. It's not a BIG buff, but it'd give her something to do other than sit there and die.

D.Va has so much survivability already, she is the character with which I die less and I recover my mech before dying most of the times. It's at 75% this season but it's usually closer to 100%. No way she needs buffs in that regard.

Had one of my best little plays in OW full stop today as Junkrat that completely broke through a payload riding Torb, Bastion, Rein, soldier and Mercy setup, a true bunker buster of pure 'nade obliteration, it was the right switch to make.

I kinda feel that having the Zero Suit last shot combined with the ability to earn your mech back rather quickly is pretty generous as is.

But double jump would be acceptable, and fun.

But....but Nuno, we'd be like Samus. Do you not understand?

This guy gets it.

Edit: In fact, I think I would actually be willing to take a 200 HP hit to D.Va's mech if it meant that D.Va could come out with the rocket jump and another offensive ability. Why not go full Samus and give her an energy whip.

Back in competitive after months and since I barely played my placements I'm still getting big gains. But how is a Junkrat going against D.Va and Pharmercy not reportable when he clearly has more experience with other characters? And he was in a group of 3, it's not like he was a solo queue idiot, and they were trying to make the other people swapping off dps. Like, what? After one game as second healer I had to switch to Doomfist to actually get control of the point at least once.

I went 2-1-1 and got 55 sr, but fuck, man.

I don't have any trouble surviving as baby D.Va most of the time. I don't think she really needs any boost in her human form - her blaster is pretty powerful and she gets her mech back super quickly if you land enough shots. It's only if you're in the radius of Reinhardt or someone as your mech explodes that you get kind of screwed.

I think if they were to change Mercy's ult, I'd want them to decrease its radius a bit. Anything to discourage players from hiding behind a wall someplace and letting their whole team die, just so they can get a radical quad rez and get teamwiped again because the enemy team already took up strong positions.

Or maybe let her build up "stocks" of ult charge? So like, she could quickly build up enough charge to rez one person, but could then keep gaining ult charge up to 200 or 300 percent to allow double and triple rezzes.

And if they're going to give her a second ability, I still really think she could benefit from having a Guardian Angel point that she can place in the world on her own, and fly to even when no teammate is there. Having to rely on your teammates not to be in dumb positions is consistently the worst part of playing Mercy.

I do hope they address SR decay for season 6. I've lost more points from decay than losing games lol.

The decay is entirely temporary. Your hidden MMR remains the same (so you get matched with the same people you would have if you hadn't decayed) and you get bonus SR for your wins until you're back up to your 'true' SR.

What is there to address? Play the game and you won't decay.

I understand the purpose of SR decay but I rather not be forced to play if I don't feel like it.

True enough. I still get that feeling of "losing" progress though which deters me even more.

Then don't play, but you're going to lose SR. It was just announced, however, that decay will now only require 5 games/week and decay will be 25SR instead of 50SR.

For the tl;dw summary:

  • Seasons changing from 3 months to 2
  • Decay will now require 5 games per week instead of 7
  • Decay will now knock off 25SR per hit instead of 50SR
  • Capture Point in comp changing from best out of 5 to best out of 3 due to that mode being an outlier in match times
  • Placements will be more accurate in SR placement now instead of initially lowballing
  • Matchmaking will change for high SR players, will take longer but try to be more accurate in competitive matching

I appreciate your balanced take on that. I've seen people claim playing Mercy requires a huge amount of skill, and I've seen others imply that it takes zero skill whatsoever, even at very high ranks. I think you're dead on in the middle, compared to every other hero, she absolutely is the easiest to play and play well with, but you can easily tell the difference between a GM Mercy and a Gold/Plat Mercy, whether it be positioning, target prioritization, proper ult usage (knowing when to tempo rez or not), all that.

I primarily play Lucio/Mercy, but even though I really enjoy playing Mercy, I won't act like playing as her is difficult, at all.

I'm really conflicted about the Control changes. Bo5 was cool because you could finally nail a comp and go on a sick reverse sweep. This kind of gets rid of that, at least you only have one shot to do it now.

On the other hand I like the shorter games, as it feels pretty bad when you spend like 25 minutes only to get a heartbreaking loss. It'll probably be fine in the end.

Not a fan of the KotH changes. I liked having long drawn out battles. It makes it feel really epic.

I'm the opposite. KOTH matches are always either grueling or stomps with the best of 5 scenario. If your team sucks, playing the full 3-0 just feels like a complete waste of time, and if you're doing the 3-0 after you soundly stomp them twice the third one just feels unnecessary. And the 3-2 matches are intense but go on for far too long most of the time. And if you get multiple KOTH competitive in a row it kind of kills the mood. They're my least favorite mode to play in competitive for sure, but I think best of 3 like QP will be much better.

I will say Lockout Elimination is easily the most annoying and frustrating game mode of any FPS ever in existence. I don't think any game mode has brought out such anger and annoyance as it has.

Ranked is less frustrating.

Really cool that I join a game and it kicks me out of the server so I lose 50 SR and get a 10 minute ban despite never disconnecting from a comp game this season.

Got room for one?

You can join Owzers and Nuno if they're on your list. I left. 2 losses is all I can take now.

Kinda tired of this yo-yo with the SR. Stack is not working anymore. I dunno what's up. It's like we're cursed with leavers or dumbass randoms who can't even get a DVa outta her Meka. Duo seems easier to climb with.

you usually go up against groups that stack often. Not worth it most times.
