Bayern, Barca, Liverpool, Celtic.
Calling it now. Sub-plots all over the shop: In the battle for Phil's soul Liverpool win at the Camp Nou (again) via a Lazar Markovich screamer and he follows up with the golf club celebration. Rodgers gives up and plays his youth side against Liverpool, but manages to win via a Lovren own goal and a Kolo Toure hattrick of headers from corners. Last game of the group, Liverpool come from 3-0 down to draw level with Ancelotti's Bayern, but end up in 3rd as Celtic and their 'character' do the double over Barca. Barca get knocked out and Phil says they are too fat and he never wanted them anyway, before cheating on LFC again with PSG (who are total sluts).

wouldn't be surprised if we got spooked tonight, it won't be easy. but our resilience is pretty incredible in these situations

If we don't pull through tonight I'll probably have a minor breakdown.
It very much depends on the draw, there are very good teams in both pot A and B that would expect to finish first in any group, but equally there are a few teams that Liverpool should be beating in both pots too
Assuming Liverpool qualify tonight obviously.

What a waste of time. I still think he may go, but definitely not to Liverpool, not after what happened.

Football should be a meritocracy though. If he's good enough to make the team, he should be picked. His form is good and he could do a job. He seems to be playing with freedom again.

I agree the move probably won't happen anymore, but the only people bothered are Saints fans. Nobody gives a shit about the 'tapping up' other than them.
Some are acting like the school snitch ffs. "They can't even look at VVD or we'll report them to the PL again and get them a transfer ban"

*Cough* Coutinho *cough* there are always dudes that take football way too seriously. Just ask the Liverpool fans that post on everything Saints related. Every team has cringy as fuck fans, the bigger the team is the more they have (which is obvious).
Fans have every right to be annoyed at how Van Dijk and Liverpool have acted. Just like how Liverpool fans have every right to be annoyed with Coutinho and Barca. But some go way over the top especially on Twitter. Way too many crazy people on there.

They are pretty good vs strong teams as evidenced by last PL season and even in Europa League. I expect same thing to happen this season. Also a lot depends on Coutinho staying too.

Saints just sold a dude to Spurs right? Really would be surprised if they sold VVD at this point, doesn't feel like they need too. Or they're banking on stupid money being offered in the final week which I can totally see happening.

Gazzaniga for £3m. Dude hasn't played for the first team in years. People need to remember Saints have new owners, who are still saying Van Dijk won't be sold. ( I can see him going next season)

Why I said the ones that do, you get normal and crazy fans at all clubs. Twitter makes it far easier for the crazies to get heard. You just have to look at the shit Lineker has to put up with. Dude must be beyond bored of it.

I'd argue that what Barca have been cooking up is way worse, but we haven't reported them or anything. I'm pretty indifferent re: the Phil situation. Totally understand why he would want to go. But Southampton fans can't understand why he would want to go to Liverpool when it's clearly a good move for him in quite a few ways.
Seem to remember Southampton getting Mane to go on strike at Salzburg so they could get him on deadline day. Kids in glass houses and all that.
Think I just dislike Southampton in general. Lived in Bournemouth when I was younger and Saints fans were always pretty poisonous. A far cry from the squeaky clean image that they're usually painted in.

Agree on Twitter. Absolute worst that football has to offer. I don't use it, just catch wind of what people have posted on it through forums etc.
I don't get people that generalise a whole fan base just because of some wastes. I could label all Chelsea fans racist, but they aren't. I guess it helps that I never get attached to anything so much I don't feel the need to go crazy over it. Guessing that is the Jamaican part of me.

Do you generalise Portsmouth fans? Liverpool fans? That seems to be pretty popular on Saints boards recently. Don't think I even hear United fans use victim/dipper etc as much as they do now.
Never, I don't even have a problem with Pompey. I was born in Jamaica though, then moved to London. Then moved to Southampton when a young teen. So I haven't been brought up to be a crazy fan. I just think the crazy die hard fans get way to much coverage then they should.

Are we really doing that 'some team's fans are worse than others' shit again? It's boring. There are melts around every club, any of that talk just becomes slitslinging because we all have endless ammo against eachother.
No need to sell before we buy. All debts and loans were cleared when Gao bought us.

Didn't you watch PL last year? Chelsea couldn't beat them. They got maximum points vs top 6 teams. Defense was still shit. Except PSG, Bayern, Juve and Real, I can see them compete well with other teams. Even Leicester were decent vs Atletico last season.
I would love to see them get knocked out and play in Europa though.
Really looking forward to the game tonight. Think we'll get through and if we score first then Hoffenheim will fold.
If we reach the group stage I'd love to draw all the best sides. Real/Munich/Juve, Barca/Atletico/PSG, Feynoord/Leipzig/CSKA. Any combo of those will do. (Maybe not Atletico actually) What's the point in getting into the CL if you don't want to play the best? A group of Spartak Moscow, Porto, and Maribor would be probably the easiest draw but the games would be shite. Plus we tend to play better against sides that come at us.
Or put all our best players on the bench...
