WindowsCentral: Xbox One X Amazon pre-orders surpass PS4 Pro YTD for 2017

Wasn't Abdiel saying that 85-90% of the preorders at his work were coming from Xbox owners (with similar results in his whole district) ?

I bet the ps4 pro pre-orders were similarly split 80/20 in favor of existing ps4 owners upgrading. What's your point? Makes perfect sense.

This will definitely be interesting to observe. MS is banking on the core fanbase to buy the Xbox X. Since Xbox sales are half of PS4 sales at this point, the percentage of Xbox X owners out of all Xbox owners should be higher than on the PS4 side.
I think the XB1X is going to have an interesting sales curve. Initially the sales should be quite high as all the price insensitive enthusiast early adopters pile on. Once that group has bought an XB1X, I think sales will decline sharply as its $500 price tag becomes a tall barrier to purchase for the mass market.

I haven't a clue what will happen long term. On one hand the XB1X sales should start climbing again as it slowly replaces the XB1S later in the generation. On the other, when the PS5 announces it should depress the XB1X sales.

For reference sake and a demonstration of how amazon sales charts may not be reflective of the general market, the PS4 Pro was #46 on the final amazon's sales charts for 2016 when all was said and done. Ahead of the top selling Xbox One (XB1S) sku on amazon which was at #64.

I really doubt that the PS4 Pro sold more than the XB1S in the US in 2016.

Interesting. If a majority of people getting an Xbox One X are already Xbox One owners, then that doesn't really increase the install base. Will be interesting to see if there's any meaningful increase in Xbox Live accounts.
The install base gets increased with casuals purchasing slims and 1 S for $199-249 during the holiday period. The X keeps existing users in the ecosystem. If here is no X, more people jump ship to the Pro. By announcing the X a year ago, they assured users that there will be a product for them if they wait 1 year. Instead of them buying Pros last year and this year

Order padding by MS for the Taco Bell units.
(only kidding)

I'm one of those who ordered the Project Scorpio Edition!

It feels like Sony didn't advertise the Pro and only enthusiasts gave a shit about it, while the Xbox One was actually marketed.

I mean the Xbox X is the PS2: 2017 Edition design wise, so of course it looks awesome.
One X looks so much better than the PS2. If I remember correctly, the PS2 bottom portion was almost the same height as its top portion.

PS2 slim is still best looking console, especially when they got rid of the power brick

The Pro had a god awful reveal and a cheaper alternative was also announced and available at the same time frame. Then come advertising during the holidays, the pro marketing was nonexistent, as well as launching 3 pieces of hardware in 3 months

People here may find it hokey, but MS has been screaming from the rooftops about scorpio for an entire year. It's in people's heads

I think everyone who predicted One S will be the main sales driver base on past data and price will eat crow, including Phil Spencer.
PS4 Pro sales pattern shouldn't apply on One X, New 3DS is a better comparison.
One X might become the first premium as mainstream product in console history.

Because they didn't really have a choice? I mean this chart that started this entire thread kind of paints the picture. Switch and PS4 Slim are far ahead and the only Xbox in the top 100 is the preorders for the One X.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
Microsoft are actually telling people it exists, which helps.

Woah. This is kind of crazy really. I wonder if there is some confusion out there that this is starting a new generation? You see glimpses of this confusion even on this enthusiast board.

I wouldn't call it crazy since quite a lot of the Amazon sales for PS4 Pro were counted in 2016.

Only enthusiasts are going to give a shit about Xbox One X as well, but Microsoft will do a far, far better job at making it a desirable product for those enthusiasts than Sony did with the Pro. This console is a big deal for them.

The PS4 Pro is embarrassingly ugly, while the Xbox One X might be the most impressive looking console EVER.

sony_ps4_pro_04.jpg

The Pro looks too simple to be "embarrassingly ugly." I can see boring, but it's just a black box. Like the One X. They both look basic. What's impressive about the One X is how compact it is.

I don't think any consoles this gen qualify as ugly. They're all playing it too safe to be ugly. Even the OG Xbox One wasn't ugly. It was just huge.

We're at the end of august now, it IS crazy. Question is why? 20% of sold PS4 consoles are Pro according to Sony but maybe that's not the case at Amazon?

Is it selling above the Xbox one S on this chart?
The Xbox One S didn't make the top 100. Whilst the PS4 Pro is at #90 (meaning it charted higher than the XB1S as well)

Which only goes to show Amazon charts can be pretty darn inaccurate way to determine how the overall market is faring. Last year the PS4 Pro charted higher than the XB1S as well. I really really doubt that the PS4 Pro has managed to sell more than the XB1S in the US both last year and this year.

There's also the people who have had their PS4s for a couple years now and are ready to pick up an Xbox to check out the exclusives. For example, I'm an Xbox fan, but if I was in the market for a PS4, I'd pick up the Pro over base model every day of the week. New hardware gets people super excited and there are enough great exclusives on Xbox at this point to justify it.

Also, there are millions of 4K screens out there with an embrarassingly small amount of native 4K content, so if a console is coming out that promises and delivers true 4K gaming, I'll get that box over the competition every single day just to see what my TV can do.

Do you understand what it means though? People on Amazon are not buying PS4 Pros really but instead are getting PS4 Slims. Slim is #9 on the overall 2017 chart at the moment while Pro is in the 90s. It would probably be higher if it counted the initial 2016 sales however, much closer to what the One X is at now. What reason do most people have to get a Pro if they can get a Slim for cheaper with a game bundled in as well?

You are being nice. Show the Pro from the side. Thing looks like it's about to blow over.

Pretty impressive for the X and well deserved, it's a better console than the Pro in pretty much every way imaginable!

Doubt it'll do as good in most other parts of the world though.

There is no question in my mind Xbox fans will be hungry for this. The question is what do you do after your significant hardcore players are done. The OG is a terrible console, and this rightly fixes all of that.

The Pro is not ugly either. It's a really simple and elegant design IMO. Nothing too flashy and nothing too bad. But fanboys gonna fanboy.

When you use it, do you view it from the side?
Does that omit the ugly design? I can view it at any angle and it still looks horrid. Hell, the front looks jacked too. Mine is at the bottom level of my entertainment center. My table blocks my view of it. It's better that way.

I like the system though.

Edit:
I do hope the Xbox One X can sustain. We need the competition. Not that Sony or Nintendo are resting. Everything has been on point for me regarding the system.

Have mine standing up at an angle, looks pretty good that way imho.

Sony has priced their PS4 slim at nearing 200 dollars with some bundles dude. People are not scrambling for a Pro because their OG is not dog pooh.

I think it looks fine. They seem to make it a point to make the shapes distinctly different from predecessors.

Really got used to the PS4 slim look, started to like it even more than the OG! And I really liked the OG look. The slim is minimalistic, curvy and fun.

The PRO however, still not feeling it after all this time

Different strokes

If Sony went back to the primary grey colours and multicoloured secondary colours ala PS1 that would be an instant win, I think some colours just 'fit' Xbox has always been black-and-green and Nintendo has always been red/white to me

The One X marketing makes it feel like an entirely new Xbox generation.

The Pro has little marketing, and doesn't come off as a "new PlayStation".. just another version of it.

I truly believe it would of benefited Sony to just pass on a mid generation upgrade and waited it about a bit longer to announce the PS5. They would of been in the same position they are now, and would of avoided the "why is there another playstation coming out so soon?" questions if they decide to announce the PS5 next year.

Jesus, no one is announcing a new PS next year. There is literally no reason for it. There is hardly any tech to properly put in it that would make a PS5.

I swear, one announcement and people go blind with craziness.

I for one am VERY GLAD there is a Pro to play the best Sony games on at the best possible specs. Many others are as well. There is no problem with what Sony did. They have done everything right so far.

Sony themselves want no part in cannibalizing their OG consoles. You know the one that is a massive success?

Count me in the camp of the no risk Pre order since they don’t take pre auth/charge your card fo the full amount until it ships. I also have a GS pre order in, but I’m actually gonna be purchasing that one for sure. I wouldn’t doubt long term the X will/can surpass the Pro sales wise. MS is really riding all out on this machine with advertisement.
