Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Is n***r that offensive??? I'm from EU and had to watch the video to know what n***r actual means...

I'm not that in into US culture... were does the word really come from? sounds like a variation of negro.

I don't give a fuck about PewDiePie to be true I may have just whatsched it two times and quitted his videos 'cause found them annoying.

Love that you censored the word even though you are unsure that it is offensive.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

...where in europe do you live ? It surely cant be the UK, France, Germany , Netherlands, Spain, Italy etc. if you display this kind of ignorance.

Honestly....every person that is capable of using google should be familiar to this. Gaffers never cease to amaze me.
Acting like you have to be part of some "US culture" to now that this a term you just casually throw out while streaming games or as a public person is just stupid. Come on...
People make mistakes. Ryan Davis once said faggot on stream, should I have called him homophobic?
lol....keep fighting the good fight.

So what's the deal, is everybody in Europe unaware of colonialism? I'm not really grasping the confusion as to why racist insults are Not Good. I didn't grow up in America, but I am aware that the persecution of minorities has occurred throughout history and that the consequences of that can be felt to this day. The Eurozone does not have clean hands when it comes to dealing with Africa either, you guys.

Nope, some are either sheltered as fuck or making shit up. Nigger is a word white people don't say in EU as well.

MUnited83

For you.
Yes and those words are used implied or otherwise as negative in plenty of American movies. And these countries have plenty of their own derivatives of this same word. You'll be hard pressed to find a European country english speaking or otherwise where the n word or an n word derivative. Is not in use. It's not even hard to discover this
In mainstream movies? Pretty rare. And no, not all countries have n word derivatives.
I'd say with 100% confidence that the average person in my country that says the word has no idea of the history behind it and what it means. They can barely construct coherent English phrases, why would they know the intricacies behind this one term?

I wonder if in the future "Nigger" will just end up being a insult specifically for mutliplayer gaming community at large and people will forget it's racial origin.
I honestly thought it was already devolved to that stage.

You know is Sex ed where the given person encourages to freely talk and say male and female genitalia, so as to take the power away from that word I really think "The N Word" holds much more power that way. Trying to forget a word from history might make it less but won't dampen its intensity - as exactly what we are seeing. I am NOT advocating the use of the word, plz god. Just thinking out loud.

Yeah bro. There's absolutely no racism here in the EU. None at all. Nope. Doesn't exist.

This thread is to much. Why do people come in here and make post about the n word not being a rasict word but then use the "I'm not from America" gimmick?
Considering we're all on the internet you'd think a quick google search to educate themselves on the origin of the word would be a reasonable idea rather than making posts like that.

There will always be some assholes who make it their lives' missions, to make sure no one forgets that nigger is properly used when directed towards black people. These people will make sure their kids know, and that their kids kids know also.

Nigger will never degrade into a random, innocuous insult.

That's what they tried to do with the word "faggot".

A lot of people will try and tell you that it's no longer an insult to gay people. Those people are living in their own world of stupidity. Yeah, go ahead and say that word out in normal everyday public and see how people react.

People try to say the language is evolving instead of evolving themselves and realizing the power and malice those terms still have. The words "nigger" and "faggot" always carried that kind of weight with me, but even then I'd use stuff like "retard" or "tranny" in my youth without realizing they carried the same kind of weight. It's about having the empathy to, when confronted for why those words are so offensive and powerful, instead of getting defensive about it and whining about PC culture, and becoming so insistent on being allowed to use those words. Like why? Why do you want to be able to say a word that you know is so negative to so many? So many people just want to double down on their stupidity and ignorance.

Whole lotta Europeans in here that apparently only just stumbled on the internet today

Yeah, it's a bunch of bullshit and I can't believe it's even being given some credibility. I lived in a monocultural country and I sure as shit knew what racism and racist slurs were. I'm not going to give anyone that approaches this situation as if they're small ignorant children the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah I've seen you around and like you as a poster so it was real surprising to see that post from you in this context. Good to see you realize the mistake.

Yea, man. I'm an idiot.
There's no question on how dumb it was for me to post that in this thread of all places.

What the fuck did I think I was in, a BuzzFeed thread on Yoga mats?

I don't want to come off as ignorant here but I have a hard time believing people in Europe don't understand that that word is offensive.

Emotional topic. If I misread or misunderstood then I apologize but it seemed like dude was using max as an example to claim pewds made a mistake when he clearly did not.

He wasn't. But seeing as you mentioned on the previous page that you've been called that word before, your reaction is completely understandable.

Especially given a few of the posts in this thread, as we see above.

It might do you lot a spot of good if you use some perspective yourselves. If someone clearly states that they may not be familiar with the culture or issue at hand, and they ask a question to gain some understanding, maybe try to educate them or point them toward some resources like some other posters did instead of jumping down their throat or trying to silence them out of hand and making yourselves look insufferable. I understand there are a lot of trolls and actual hateful people in these types of threads, but let's not make that a blanket assumption.

wtf? You seem to be missing the perspective that "what about black people?" is the most tired and shit response whenever this topic comes up.

If you know the word, then you know the context. Cause why else would you say the word?

Can't wait for the next video where he complains about being "targeted" by the media and gives a halfass apology (that's if he even apologizes at all).

Fucking piece of shit. And he's still top earning YouTuber that millions of kids watch regularly and he represents a large portion of gaming culture. Let that all sink in.

In mainstream movies? Pretty rare. And no, not all countries have n word derivatives.

Many European countries do, which is the point of that arguement. A nebulous not all countries is worthless when so many in Europe in fact do in at least one of their major languages.

Black people saying the n-word: They should stop using it. They're just cementing it as a bad word.

White people saying the n-word: It was just a heated moment and it slipped out.

So tired of non-POC trying to dictate who can say what, based on their own experiences and upbringing.

Once I was minding my own business walking along the pavement and some guys in a white van threw a can of drink on me and shouted "nigger" as they drove past.

Maybe I should try to understand the context 🤔

Hard "r" too. Woof.

Fuck off with the "he lives in Europe" shit. He lives in the UK, he will 100% know that saying nigger is racist.

It doesn't even matter where he lives, there's evidence in the video that he knew immediately that he fucked up.

How many people do you think there are who browse English language gaming forums and have never been exposed to racial slurs or understand that they are offensive? Come on now.

It was a bad drink, they said it in a moment of frustration

Why is anyone even pretending anymore? Everyone is aware that he's a racist, just some people love him for it. There's no need for mental gymnastics here.

I know how this kind of behaviour can cause cognitive dissonance because there are so many people who look up to him. I don't know if he's an actual racist or whether frustration made him use the most hostile words he could find but this is utterly disappointing. More so because in this current day and age racism is slowly creeping back as being acceptable, and as an public figure with whom so many young people connect with he really has a responsible not to do something this reprehensible. But if he truly is a racist, then fuck him.

Confession:
Over a decade ago, before I knew better I also threw around the N-word during online play and/or it would be hurled at me during moments of frustration. At the time I used it as a substitute for "asshole" because I knew it was far more insulting regardless of the race of the other player. But as I grew older, saw more, read more and learned more I knew that it was unacceptable to use it because of the weight and history the word carries and it betrays your claim of not being a racist (if you truly aren't one) regardless of your intention to use it as just another hurtful word.

People make mistakes. Ryan Davis once said faggot on stream, should I have called him homophobic?

Ryan Davis apologized for his use of the word. He even went out of his way to write a blog further apologizing and condemning his use of the word.

Knowing who Pewdiepie is, he will do no such thing. He will make some dumb video shifting the blame to the people calling him out on his behavior.

Lets just stop this 'why is the word offensive?' discussion now.

No one gives a flying fuck if it isn't offensive in your country or if you haven't been educated about the word. It is clear from many posts in this thread that it is a very deplorable word.

If you want to learn the history of the word then just google it or watch a video on youtube. Or just read a book, idc which.

Stop derailing this thread with this topic. Again, this issue isn't about you and stop trying to make it so.

The "what about black people" thing is so dumb because there is nothing actually stopping you from saying it. It's not against the law for a non-black person to say the n-word. You don't get struck by lightning if you say it. So if you want to so badly, say it. Nothing is stopping you. But you don't. At least not publicly? Why is that?

Sure, it should have made you question his beliefs a bit. I was shocked to hear it from him. He immediately apologised instead of doubling down, though, which a lot of people aren't capable of.

What is this bullshit being perpetrated here about European interpretations about the slur?

There is no way you do not know that n***** is a racist slur, if you already know the word.

Fuck off with that.
