New Super Mario Odyssey trailer

Nintendo is crushing it for 2017!
It really boggles my mind how people couldn't grasp Nintendo's software release strategy for Switch. The naysayers and sofa-analysts had countless objections, but clearly, Nintendo played their cards just right, whilst indies (and now major 3rd-party too!) have been filling in the gaps... gaps that weren't exceeding long between major 1st party games anyway. That was awesome planning!

Delivering games is one thing, though, but the level of quality and polish seen in these major Nintendo games has been staggering... and all within Switch's 1st year. They are on a roll, and I'm anxious to see how they use this momentum heading into the new year.

No word on Gamestop pre order bonuses for US? Best Buy is an HOUR away. No way am I gonna drive that far for an Odyssey coin.

EB Games and Gamestop in Australia and UK are getting a Cappy plush hat.

Hope GS in US get a cool poster or something. Figurine, maybe? It's the only store 20min away from me that sells new games.

I only care about how it will be on the TV though once I get a Switch. I mean it would be a waste of my 65 inch OLED otherwise :)

Any guesses how it will be on that? Docked that is, right?

The 1080p to 900p portion refers to docked. Undocked can only really go up to 720p.

It really is a complete guess though considering we've only seen it at 720p. ARMS and Splatoon were 720p before launch, although in Splatoon's case it spends very little of its time around 1080p.

I planned to get my Switch for this game. I also want it physical so not too interested in the Mario Bundle. Do I:

- Wait to get Mario Odyssey and Switch on release day so its that new console experience as well

- Pick up the switch now (£25 off at the moment) - although I feel it'd be pointless without getting a game with it, but not sure what to get

I already have BoTW, and Mario Kart 8 on WiiU

Get the Switch now at £25 off. Buy an indie game under £20 to tide you over. Then buy Mario next month.

Anyone know when we will be able to order digital version from the eshop and how much it's likely to cost? In UK

Based on other Switch launches (I got Mario Rabbids digital on launch) it'll retail for £49.99 and will be available to purchase & download at midnight on October 27th.

If you get the Switch now you could warm up for Odyssey with Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle. It's a great game too.

I'd buy it now since it's cheaper. The game is out in just over a month so it's not like it will be sitting around unused for too long.

That Nintendo attention to detail. Game looks insane!

I'd recommend a Switch now, but I think you'd be surprised how much you'd love Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Everyone seems to adore that game, including both genre newcomers and seasoned vets. The rabbids themselves, as it turns out, fit Mario like a glove. One of the best games in years.

When they showed the photo mode there was a picture of Mario and the eel from Mario 64. What if that was them showing us you'll be able to go back to Jolly Roger Bay?

Get that switch now! Might be hard to get when Mario releases

Nah I'm guessing they're just reusing the eel in a world here, probably the Seaside Kingdom. If there's any retreading of Mario 64 (like Peach's castle or any of those levels) they absolutely would not show it before launch.

That's the type of thing they would be keeping secret.

Well, it helped massively having one of the best games of all time in one of the most beloved series of all time as a launch title of course, so that alone was quite something. Given their lack of AAA this party support, they've done spectacularly well, especially coming off the back of the Wii U.

That's true. They seemed like enemies in the footage, but who knows.

I'd forgotten about that part honestly, looking again they don't seem to be moving, and have different appearances, (sunglasses moustache and white hat on one, red hat on the other) so I think those will be characters too.

Get it now - it's possible you may not find stock on release day, so I'd recommend getting it now. 25 pounds off makes it a no-brainer for me really.

I'd personally recommend getting Splatoon 2 with the Switch - my favourite game on the system. Mario and Rabbids is great too.

Oh, I didn't notice those. I'll have to go back and look. Definitely sound like NPCs.

On my 55 inch 4K tv, Zelda looks bright and wonderful. I sit maybe 3 meters away on the couch.
It is obvs not looking all 4K and stuff, but the feel of it all looks fantastic.
I think the worst looking part is the menus that are a tiny bit fuzzy as they are 720p even when docked, as far as I am aware.

Went into the thread.

Read the first first pages and thought GAF was just over reacting again about a Nintendo game.

Left the thread without watching the video (was busy with work stuff back then).

Came back today to watch the trailer.

Preordering right now from Best Buy

I think ARMS was always 1080p. At least I remember it being that way.
Not sure about Splatoon, but the IQ is really good in the single player stages and Salmon Run. In any case, it's much nicer than 720p and I'm hoping for the same in Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade.
I wonder what's the role of these travel paintings when you've got the Odyssey ship.
Maybe takes you to a portion of the map you couldn't reach before?

Get it now so you don't run into stock issues. As for games. Maybe pick up a cheep digital game with the money you saved like Sonic Mania/Snakepass/Shante/Oceanhorn/overcooked/NBA Playground ect

Some people think it's a quick travel back to another Kingdom. I think it could also be to take you to a certain section of that Kingdom not accessible while in that Kingdom. Either way it's so cool to see jumping into paintings is back.

I played 250 hours of Zelda Wii U and bought it again for Switch for 900p greatness and more stable framerate. Also i wanted to play the Zelda Story DLC on Switch too.

There are already many good indiegames on Switch, also Rabbids Kingdom is a very good game, Splatoon 2 too.

Chances they get this up to 1080p dynamic resolution? I can't image them having both docked and portable mode at the same resolution.

The only issue I see is with New Donk City. Aliasing and shimmering will be very apparent compared to other worlds.

But it's a 60fps, and looks and runs beautiful.

It's not impossible, but I don't think it'll be higher than 900p given they are aiming for 60 fps.
