The Broodals playing such a big role in this game’s story makes me wonder how much the dev team was inspired by the development of Mario + Rabbids happening pretty much concurrently with Odyssey. Unless it’s just a total coincidence that two Mario games released on the same platform within months of each other have crude white rabbits with punny names as antagonists.

Honestly, I'm really looking forward to this game, and the newly revealed Kingdom's further fuel my excitement. Definitely a day-one buy for me.

The game looks like it's gonna be a blast, October needs to hurry the hell up.
Everyone said the same thing when Galaxy came out.

Then Galaxy 2 came out.

They said the same when 3D World came out.

Now again with Mario Odyssey.

It's literally the whole "Nintendo is doomed" scenario but with Mario.

I know, right??
As much I love the game, I blame SMG1 and it's space theming for this mindset- there is a reason why it's called the "final frontier", it's usually reserved for the end game in most other things.
Maybe I shouldn't take the hyped-fueled "How can they possibly top this?! :O" sentiment so literally but...calm down folks, there are a bevy of compelling concepts that the mainline Mario platformers haven't touched yet and there is also a whole expanded universe with entertaining ideas and characters that the devs have been ignoring for decades.
Plus, they can ebb and flow between linear SMG/3D World-style platforming and sandbox-y collectathon gameplay to keep things fresh if need be.

I'm %100 positive that they can make another excellent and surprising Mario game after this one. lol

From the metro preview: We assume he must be German, given that country’s prediction for non-stilled water, but the island inhabitants are definitely French

Deepest lore. Im german and dont know if im offended or not...

GUYS WHAT IF THEY REMADE ALL OF SUPER MARIO 64 AND ALSO GALAXY 1 AND 2 AND EVEN A 3D REMAKE OF SUPER MARIO WORLD AND THEN YOU CAN DATE PEACH AND

Oh thank god.

To be fair it looks like this game has way more variety than BOTW, I doubt it will do constant repetition like that game did. So I am still very optimistic.
IF we enterain the very subjective and contradictory notion that BotW was a repetitive game, then i have bad news for you.

There will be significant repetition for you with Oddysey then. There are plenty of Moonshines that are got the same way: Ground pound a suspicious spot on the floor, Goomba Towers, telegraphed 8 bit side scrolling sessions or enemy capture to to get a nearby Moonshine. Lot's of these Moonshines fall on the same trivial category as Green Stars in 3D World or solving Deku Puzzles to get seeds.

I was describing what they were saying about Mario. Zelda was challenging finally, but it lacked dungeons and the interesting level design of past games.
Finding BotW repetitive and of all things lacking interesting level design i can't imagine what's your opinion of past 3D Zelda games. Specially when most of the praise for Breath came from those 2 aspects you are so down on.

On topic, noteworthy stuff:
  • Possesion absorbed many abilities of past games. Easy to notice in Seaside where cappy works like Flood abilities of Sunshine.
  • Sunshine Void style levels return it seems.
  • Boss fights will not be at Galaxy levels of coolness. On one hand the Mecha Carterpillar and Octopuss are there but every Rabbid fight i' ve seen works like Boom Boom.
  • The more complex Moonshines are not as intrincate as the best Galaxy Stars.
  • Cap Possession is a cool concept that seems handcuffed in this game. Since the puzzle or challenge to solve is so close nearby that it seems to restrain creative uses of it
Disclaimer: im going by what i' ve seen so far in all of the footage. Which is totally fair until we get the full game.

And maybe sunshine is in it and you can swim to the bottom of the ocean and the secret door can be opened and in the book is a full version of mario maker 3d

Exactly. It's entirely up to the individual how repetitive BotW becomes.

So, someone with the game tell me if there's option to hide UI while playing, I'm scared the bright colours will cause burn-in.

Anyone have any particular feelings on what's been an almost standardised UI between BOTW and Odyssey?

Stark white and flat text and icons for the HUD

A green ring gauge for breathing under water

Contextual instructions popping up depending on what you've possessed/what you're using

They even use the same button icons which is very neat.

I almost hope they use this for all their games - contextual UI for controls is pretty passive but gets everyone up to speed. Looks incredibly slick.
