Did You Go To Prom?

Yeah, it's trash. The fact that the modern prom is high school's like pinnacle event is telling of how much of a drag high school is.

Don't get why folks would skip it. You really only get 1 prom after growing up with these folks. Drink, dance, fuck, have a little fun.

You'll have plenty of time to go out to dance parties at other points in your life

I went. The venue was pretty amazing and the theme "A Night in Paris" ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) was pretty well realized. I didn't have a date but it was nice seeing all my friends there having fun with each other and hanging out. It was a nice time all in all.

Yeah, went with my girlfriend at the time, my friend and his girlfriend (her best friend) and their 2 other friends.

It was a good night, went out all kilted up, had some decent food, danced a bit, got a little drunk then went back to hers and had some nice sex.

Nope, went to a movie with my friend that night. Terrible movie (some evil Druid lady .. The Guardian maybe?)

As for my kids: My oldest didn’t go to her prom. My youngest is planning to go this year but just with her friends. She just mostly wants to wear a prom dress for a night.

Hell yeah I went. There was no way I would miss it, plus I love to dance.

My date was a long-time friend of mine who didn't go to our school. She was probably the best-looking girl there and everyone thought she was my girlfriend =p

But I had a lot of fun. It wasn't the "best night of my life" or anything like that, but I'm glad I went. I took lots of pictures and I go through the album from time to time.

Memories......

Went to my girlfriend's junior prom, then both of our senior proms (we went to different high schools).

8 years later we're still together.

It's kind of funny to think of how meaningless prom was in the grand scheme of things, but it felt like a big deal at the time.

I went to the junior prom but not the senior prom IIRC. It was alright. I didn't ask anyone in particular to go with me, I just hung out with friends and ate good food. I don't regret skipping the senior one, really, as the junior one was good enough for me.

I don't know, it feels like the people who didn't enjoy going to prom are the kind of people who wouldn't really enjoy partying every week/2 weeks or something similar.

It's high school. More people are still in weird awkward phases and such, once you grow up a bit and grow out of that, you can go and do similar shit whenever if it's something you want to do at the time

I did

I wore a goofy colored unfitting suit I got from Goodwill for funsies

I didn't dance

EDIT Or I thought I went to Prom. It may have been the Homecoming dance. I don't give enough shit to remember lol

hahaha yeah I went to prom and hated it. You are 100% right, even once a year sounds like too many "party's" to me

I attended an all-boys' Catholic high school in the 90s, and went to prom out of social obligation.

I asked a girl with strict parents to the prom, knowing that her Dad would want her home early. We went to a group dinner, and then to the prom. It was fun. She was dropped-off at home before midnight, and then I was free to meet-up with one of the football players for some after-prom festivities..

Yeah. It was nerve-racking, but it was a lot of fun in the end. Had a great after party at by best friend's house after too.

This.

My Year 11 prom was a bit dead.

My Six Form prom ( the prom you have when your 18) was at this beautiful hotel that had a horse race track behind it and there was a bar. And since our sixth form was small and had like 80 people there, everyone knew each other and was friends.

Everyone just getting smashed, taking photos, dancing, and then an after party afterward.

Amazing way to end my time before university.
I guess I'm kinda lucky, there was a good sense of camaraderie and very little bullying in my year at school, there was a real togetherness.

My Sixth Form didn't have a prom but they did rent a hall for us to all get pissed in, that was pretty fun too.

Nope, don't like parties or loud music and I didn't like most of the people I went to school with, hung out with some friends instead. Not to mention it was way cheaper, prom is expensive as fuck.

I didn't even go to graduation, there was undoubtedly going to be family drama with who could and couldn't go (especially since my brother was able to get a million tickets to get my whole damn family to come to his), and I hated school so much I didn't want to deal with it a nanosecond more than I was obligated to. In hindsight I wish I would have gone, but I don't lose sleep over it.

Eh, I had no interest in going to prom and I go out every week, sometimes multiple days in a row.

Chaperones, no alcohol, shitty music in some gymnasium with awkward teen dancing. Not exactly the most enticing party.

I went, solo. I showed up on time because I was the dumbest person alive. Helped the moms put up decorations for like 90 minutes before anyone else showed up.

Danced with exactly 3 girls. Went to the batting cages after.

Yup. Sucked ass. Pulled up in a Ferrari with my girl. After party in a small cottage with 25 horny drunk and on drugs recently graduated 18 year olds was awesome though.

I went both junior and senior year! No romantic prospects at either point, though I went with friends. Went with a girl I only vaguely knew my junior year (because she went to another school and was super attractive), and unsurprisingly, that shallow move led to a not very enjoyable night. Had a massive crush on the girl senior year, but she told me about a week before she only wanted to be friends, kind of squashing any sort of romantic appeal to the night either year. Threw an afterparty, though, my junior year, which ended up being the highlight of it. Hanging out with friends ended up being the fun of it all - I really regret letting the night get tied up in high school romance. Not that I've thought about prom for more than 30 seconds at any given time since graduating high school three years ago, though.

Not even the same.

Eh, the only difference would be the attached sentimentality to it, which is very YMMV for people in high school. These days high school is becoming less and less of a major "thing" in life in favor of college, so less people seem to have any real sense of attachment to their high school years.

I was suspended for junior prom after getting caught smoking weed.

I had a black eye at senior prom having been jumped by 3 dudes a few days earlier. I was also really high.

Nah. Don't regret it either. The dance part anyhow. I do wish i had done the "let's get smashed" part afterwards. That's always fun.

There are a lot of places far cheaper (and more fun) to go dance with cute girls than prom.

I always thought homecoming was the better dance anyhow, because it was way the fuck cheaper and honestly just as good (which is not really that good).

I skipped out on the let's get smashed part. Had a choice to go into the city and get smashed or go up to this kid's lake house at his party and get smashed. Went to my more nerdy friends house and played Double Dash instead

Yes, but only because I was an exchange student in the USA and felt the need to experience the " american high school " life to the fullest.

It was a lot of fun but I don't see the big deal with Homecoming ( which was more important in my high school ) , Sadie's or Prom
