As far as I know, my school didn't even have a prom.

But this was 1998/99 in the UK, so I don't think "Prom culture" had really turned up yet.

I went, but in Switzerland we just have parties at regular discos and bars, and we don't ask anyone out.

No. (Sweden) not a thing for me. Its cost quite much too (ticket , clothes (if you dont rent) photoshoot ect)

So if you dont like things like this its too much money

I don’t ever think it will be how movies portray it, but I don’t think it’s something to “skip over”. Do what you want, but I think it’s just one of those things you do and then can look back at how you want to look back on it.
