German Federal Elections 2017 |OT| Electing the new leader of the free world

Pancake Mix

Copied someone else's pancake recipe
what you're looking at exactly?
i mean if you have a look at "Die Linke" you see a pretty significant difference between eat and west:

Sorry, I meant the AfD specifically. A few people in this thread were talking about them doing well in the east this time around.

I was just looking at 2013 (not expecting results for this year yet, obviously) and there didn't seem to be that much of a difference in support for that party. I mean yes, they did better in the East even then.

Wow, shots fired by Schulz. Never saw him as our chancellor but I feel he can be a good leader of the opposition.

My biggest wish for the next four years: more has to be done regarding integration
of east Germans, lol
.

Let's start with language lessons. It's easier to be integrated if you speak some standard German.

Petry spewing bullshit again. Your party is full of Nazis if you have no problem associating yourself with fucks like Gauland.

Sounds a little bit harsh, but AFD voters are extremely dumb and have no idea about anything.

germans should have a certain responsibility for preventing this shit. all of those people went through german education and still decided to vote for a party full of nazi scum.
Almost all of them have been to concentration camps.

I CANT ANYMORE

yeah.
AFD is higher in the east, but not that much compared with Die Linke

but we really need to wait for this year tho. if you have a look at the NPD for example the difference between west and east is very significant again. so if many former NPD voter went to AFD this time, the east-west difference for the AFD could be bigger this year compared to the last election

one also interesting note is the relative strength of the AFD in the Rhein-Main region, where many foreigner live, while unemployment is not stronger there as in the Ruhrgebiet

I wouldn't say they're dumb. That would be a too simple of an answer. Many of them are uneducated though, out of work or on HARTZ IV and the fucked-up tabloid media (e. g. BILD) will just tell them what to think: "Refugees are responsible for your miserable state, they are on welfare and they're all terrorists. And the established large parties don't give a fuck about you."

That's basically how the far-right has gained so much traction all across Europe. It's been a toxic climate ever since the financial crisis 0exacerbated social problems, combined with far-right attacks in the media against multi-culturalism with the ostensible goal of preventing terrorism and welfare abuse.

Edit: And then add social media to the mix to amplify the hate speech. Perfect storm, really.

Ugh im so sick of these politicians...every politician from every partei is talking about how bad AFD is instead of focusing on their own themes and what they want to do the next 4 years.

take schulz for example

AfD is a fairly young party but I'm still surprised how quickly it went from a boring anti-Euro party founded by economists wanting a return to the DM to becoming effectively the second coming of the Brownshirts.

The only way to keep racists out is to not pretend as though they have valid motives. They only run on racism, call them racists, every single time. Shame their voters. Shame them. Don't give them legitimacy by arguing. It's not about economics, it's about racism for them. And unless you argue in support of racism you aren't getting their voters.

So, it seems like that the AfD got into the Bundestag thanks to East Germany. Send them a signal and cut the Soli.
Not really. Remember that there are a lot fewer people in East Germany, so AfD must have a certain percentage in the West as well, probably around 10%.

Voter profiles of AfD voters after many regional successes showed that AfD voters were mainly normal to well-earning & middle class.

i know and i agree with you but I think thats the mistake the politicians make by talking more and more AFD so thats why more and more people vote them, best would be to ignore them and just talk about the real politics they wanna do

Not being able to critically reflect such sources is what I consider dumb.

Shame them, then they'll play the victim/"underdog" card and grow also.

Ugh, as a traditional green voter I couln't be unhappier with the results and the prospect of a jamaica coalition, which will probably destroy the greens or change them to become a fully conservative party Göring-style.

I actually agree.

Yes, you got me there. But I'd argue that most of the "middle class" is still consuming the crappy tabloids and social media. They are still susceptible to the far-right brainwashing. They are actually most susceptible to the kind of fears that they promote (e.g. fear of losing their status). They're not necessarily "dumb" in the sense of the word, which was all I wanted to say.

There IS also a sizeable number of really well-earning far-right voters which are voting out of ideological or economic interest. They're not some kind of "low-brow racist" and they're certainly not dumb either.

So the "dumb" argument is an unjust simplification.

Bavaria and the post-industrial wasteland in NRW (Duisburg/Gelsenkirchen eg) did their part in voting these bellends into Bundestag, too.

we don't have the data yet, but i can assure you this is completely wrong
Duisburg/Gelsenkirchen is higher for AFD, but why do you think Bavaria is doing that?

here is the last election:

the AFD is the weakest in wide rural ares in the west
Bavaria, lower Saxony and NRW

So it's not dumb to thik immigration causes all their problems? They might have an education but politically and economically they are dumm wie brot

Let's wait for more hard data. But the South (BW too) was quite open for some AFD positions, sadly.

Fucking embarrassing, some of the areas around me are done counting. About 10% for AfD in all of them. Bavaria btw

Not being able to critically reflect such sources is what I consider dumb.

I consider it: satisfying the needs of post-democratic capitalism. These people have been produced by a system that doesn't need them to critically reflect anything. They need to function in their jobs and then be able to shut down their brains over beer and celebrity gossip and be reachable for advertising to buy all the crap that they themselves produce. There's no need for reflection - or for solidarity for that matter.

But let's not go too far down that road. I don't want to derail the thread.
