New Danganronpa V3 Spoiler Thread

After finishing this game, I might go and finish the spinoff, Despair Girls. Anyone recommend it?

Really curious where the series will go now. I am moving on to Chaos;Child as my next visual novel to play.
I would definitely recommend playing it :) You get a lot of extra info about some of the original cast as well.

It's not a perfect game (the gameplay controls were a bit frustrating for me and the villains are kinda irritating) but you learn a lot, and the dynamic between Toko and Makoto's sister is really fun.

Yea, Miu has a fetish for machinery and she loves it. Wouldn't be surprised if she fucked him when she was adding "functions" when he was offline.

Lmao MY KWEENNNN. I could learn so much from her lmao.

Yea, def worth playing for more Toko. Altho it was always a bit weird to like her since she's a well known serial killer.

This is the universe where Naegi thought it would be worth it to try and redeem the Remnants of Despair who are like super serial killers anyway

Honestly Miu probably ended up being my least favorite character just because of how one-note she was and how her schtick stopped being funny to me after like the second trial. Even Tenko ended up getting some development right before her death, but Miu just felt one-note and flat to the end
Yup. And the one time you think she's doing something to help everyone she's just trying to murder everyone. She's basically a plot device to set up Trial 5.

Honestly completely baffling to me that so many people here seem to like her at all let alone say she's one of the better characters in the game.

DR2's greatest twist. Man, I loved that.
It's so good because it instantly adds a lot of depth to all of the characters who you may have already thought were kind of annoying/losers.

Miu is really entertaining but shes not what I'd call a great character or anything. The "best" characters are probably Maki and Kokichi but my favorites in the series are Nagito, Sonia, Kyoko, Kokichi and Sakura.

Casino music is so good. I'm looping it while I'm at work.

Man I still feel like shuichi could be snuffed easily. Dude couldn't even do push ups.

Ultimate maid/ ruler of Japan could have taken him out.

And I agree Miu is great... Loved her chapter too! The vr game is novel (wish the loads were smoother). And gonta's arc was tearing me up. Him pleading about how he doesn't know anything kills me.

:(

Let me have my opinion. Yours isn't the only right one tbh, and I haven't laughed that hard from a video game in a long time.
There's nothing wrong with your opinion, I'm just legitimately shocked. When I finished the game and looked back I pegged her as the worst one by far. She's so bad that I was certain she'd stick around to the end like Hiro or Kazuichi, so at least I got a good surprise when she died.

To be honest, i kinda like the concept of the character (a very aggressive/annoying person which actually want to hide a very big inferior complexe). The fact she found one "objective" pride in her life (her body) seems to be the main motivator about her seeing life within that prism. It's far more intersting than Tenko which uh, don't like male because her male master said that to her.
But.... The execution is... Mostly annoying and yeah having her only as a plot device really annoyed me.

I do remember Miu started to act a bit more eccentric around the start of the fourth chapter. I remember there was one point where she says something along the lines of "I'll make you all regret this" though I don't remember it exactly

Yep, but it was just before going into the VR World so she already have made preparation for the murder at this point.
Even that reaction is unnatural anyway, everyone was saying that the Virtual World sucks, she was mad about that but... They were right, the Virtual Worst is a place where you can be murdered easily by her which have a superior understanding of the place. Of course it sucks. Why would she say "you will regret this ?" they can only regret having trusting her if her plans have gone smoothly.

The vr game is novel (wish the loads were smoother).

Meh, "going into a game" was handled better in that Arcade Machine in Danganronpa 2 in my opinion, there were a great sense of mystery in there.
Also the "trick" of that chapter was so easy to understand, it's like a reddition of Danganronpa 2 - Case 4 trick but done more poorly.

Miu had a lot of potential.

Anyone thought it was super weird that when she bowed for people to enter VR that the art style was completely different? WTF was up with that?

I'm pretty sure Maki explicitly mentions how much of a target Shuichi is, so it's not like it went unnoticed. Fortunately for him, the killers in V3 were too altruistic, inept or straight up insane to truly consider killing him. In Kirumi's case, she pretty much had a golden opportunity with Ryoma, and she would have gotten away with it if her plan didn't leave behind so much evidence.

Miu had a lot of potential.

I really liked the artstyle shifts present throughout the game. The best one was in Chapter 2, before Kirumi's execution.

Lol. When you say you're legitimately shocked with someone's opinion, you're basically saying there's something wrong with it. It can be said that I'm shocked that so many people *don't* like her, but I kept that shit to myself because character favourites are subjective (as they should be) lol

EDIT: You said art style. I gotta learn to read a bit before posting :p i actually didn't even realize that until you brought it up. good point.

I guess I'm hoping people would explain what there was to like about her instead of complaining that I got tired of her one-note joke after Chapter 1. She exists to prop up Kokichi and give some sex jokes. And by some I mean one over and over.

Cant remember what it looked like but it was definitely a reference to a manga artist's style

He did a bad job then lmao. Least popular has got to be Ryoma or Rantaro

Miu had this cuteness that whenever she got told, she would be super wimpy.

I liked that instead of making her some disgusting fat otaku dude, they made her this super hot chick with a horrible personality. It was def not expected and the vulgarity meter was off the charts.

I already said it. I found her funny as hell. it's clear that your sense of humour is different from mine. Which is totally fine.

I thought her jokes were hilarious, her voice acting with it, and the way she backed down the minute she was called out. Her orgasm face was hilarious too IMO.

I do like that they basically took Hifumi, split him into two characters, and then made both of those characters better than Hifumi.

My man lol
There's even a point after she dies when everyone's like "wow, I'm not sad she's dead at all". Even Kokichi got more than that.

Ryoma?!

Tsumugi was def "plain" as she said about herself. The most generic cosplayer you could think of. I thought she was quite vapid and not even her reveal as mastermind made me like her anymore.

I was honestly disappointed she didn't have any unique mastermind sprites like Junko did.

Making her a busty sadist, that's actually a masochist was the wrong way of going about it then. That and slapping on a previous idol as her JP VA and it was a recipe for success.

Yeah no. Japan loves him. Wants there to be a spinoff novel series or game about him as the protag in the 52nd series.

official poll says tsumugi, which is kinda embarrassing for being the mastermind, but she really is that weak a character

As a mastermind she was really cool though. But she was a copy cat, a weaker version of Junko, only a fan girl actually so i can understand people not liking that.

But that's the part which was interesting to me about her, i even felt a little sorry for her bowing "good bye" at Danganronpa at the end of the game before being crushed with Monokuma.

Tsumugi is probably at the bottom because a lot of JP fans hated the twist right

Like I didn't like her that much pre-reveal but she was there the entire game which usually bumps up peoples ratings. Look how high Himeno is

I love how they had to explain the wrapping world trick like 5 times. Either someone on staff really loved that or it didn't focus test well lol.

Probably. But like even then Ryomas last wtf. Japan's still got a ways to go.

Yep, not a fan of Tsumugi either. Before and after reveal. I honestly kept forgetting she was in the game unless I had to speak with her.

I ended up loving Tsumugi after the twist just for the cosplay shenanigans. Also because she has a sprite for the evil anime glasses push up with lens glare. I'm a sucker for that shit

even as someone who liked the twist i thought tsumugi herself was the weakest part of it by far. there was lots of potential to explore angles like the relationship between creators and their characters or the effect her work has on people in the outside world but she was pretty one-note "the people love the killing game!!!" imo

Also I understand why people hate Angie and she totally had to die but she's more funny, sinister, and interesting than most of the characters in the series. I laughed whenever she did that back and forth thing at inappropriate times and had to look away during the loving embrace parts. Good character.

I never understood Nagito's popularity. Dude was just creepy and insane. Not even likeable. Well, to me.

I never fully understood it either. I mean, if creepy and insane was what they were going for, they definitely nailed it. But I couldn't stand him IMO haha. I looooooved Chiaki though. Her death upset me.

Angie was fun. The whole cult thing could've gone to some interesting places but they killed her off and she wasn't even the intended target of anything premeditated. What a bummer.

There's gotta be a backup somewhere!

Nagito fucking rules he's Hope's Junko and his utter savagery for his own death resulting in the death of the one person actually on his side because of his own misunderstanding is great too

He's insane and Megumi Ogata did a great job voicing him. His entire character is supposed to trick you into thinking he's Naegi 2.0 - same talent, same VA, his names an anagram for I Am Naegi Makoto - but he's really just completely lost it. The way he uses his luck talent is great too

I think we talked about this a bit prior, but Angie would have totally been better as a killer instead of a victim. I liked her character. She was fun.

LMAO i can only hope!

Im glad they didn't go down the obvious route of having her be a killer. It wouldn't have made much sense because she controls through love instead and she didn't want to leave. It would have been a nonsensical move that ruins the character for the sake of moving the plot along like they did with Miu.

Eh I dunno. You can maybe argue that it could have been obvious, but that would have depended on the way they executed it.
I was hoping she'd have some kind of fucked up true nature exposed.

Pretty much. IIRC, Nagito is the most popular in DR2 with Chiaki 2nd, while Kyoko is the most popular in DR1.

Kyoko's English VO was really good (Same VA as Kaede). I tweeted the VA way back after playing DR1 and she was appreciative. She was relatively unknown at the time. Now she's in P5 etc. Much deserved.

He's was the reason why 2-5 was the best case in the series. His insanity is what makes him a great character. Yeah, he isn't likable, but he is still the most interesting character in DR2 due to how he affects the rest of the characters in that game.

It's also why Kokichi is a great character in DRv3, but to a way lesser extent.
