I am here to eat my Spiderman 2 crow!

Considering Season 3 GIF by Portlandia

I still would have preferred if they skipped Miles Morales and spent the entire time making a Spiderman 2 that was more of a generational leap.. same with Gran Turismo. I was probably expecting more a Horizon ZW -> FW level visual improvement.

Said it in the other thread, but the way they described it sounded like "hey look same but with faster loading times between characters, a bigger map, and loads of costumes!"

Don't disagree at all, but two things - First, I can't really tell if this is the same jump as between the two horizon games. The first one didn't have a real PS5 version to compare it to so that also makes it kind of hard to say. I think this looks notably better than Spider-Man remastered, though I haven't played miles.

Second, I can't be sure but given they're a very efficient studio, miles might have actually been a subset of the work from this game, making it so if they didn't do miles, this one would have just come out a little sooner. Conversely, if they were going to make something really new, it would have taken a lot longer this.

I mean the fact that they managed to release:

Miles Morales in November 2020
Ratchet & Clank in June 2021
and next
Spiderman 2 in October 2023

is insane and yeah they should be commended for their efficiency.

At the same (and sorry to basically repeat myself lol) it makes you wonder what the Spiderman team (assuming the Ratchet & Clank team is separate) could have achieved if they skipped Miles Morales altogether and, say, released Spiderman 2 in 2024 or something. That would've meant no resources being diverted to any PS4 versions.

Hmmm... Makes me wonder if the tech from ratchet is going to dovetail into wolverine. Because that game still looks as good or better than anything out, including Spider-Man 2.

It’s gonna be fine, but Wolverine will probably end up a lot better (new from the ground up for PS5). Still excited for this however.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
It looks okay, I don't think I've seen anything to get me more excited then the previous showings and their whole thing with the collector's edition being digital and no physical deluxe edition either doesn't entice me to pre-order it for day one, probably wait for sale.

Yeah it looked really good. This is a good candidate for a 'bigger, batter, better' approach to a sequel. That's what they did for God of war and horizon.

Tbh I think this is a better approach than those games. Not saying it's the most revolutionary thing ever, but the faster web slinging and character switching are actual "next gen" improvements/changes to the core game design of the original. Which is what Forbidden West and Ragnarok didn't really have.

I think it's still the same strat for a sequel but insomniac might be outright better at it and got to slip in more substantial changes with that same strat.

It’s a direct sequel you numb nuts. What did you expect? To play as Batman in a Spider-Man game?
This is GoW: Ragnarok all over again.
You aren't making the point you think you are there man. Ragnorok came out, people played it, and kept on saying it felt like more of the same. Then the narrative changed to "It's not a sequel! It's part 2!"

As if TLOU: Part 2 wasn't a massive upgrade over the first one in the gameplay department. I really hope this isn't GoW: Ragnorok all over again.

I don't know how or when this whole non-sense about a sequel needing to be a completely different game came from but "fanboys are gonna fanboy" so... 🤷‍♂️ unless, of course, a more of the same sequel is coming to their favorite box. :D

Anyway, with that out of the way... what they showed in the trailer is looking good and Spiderman 2018 is an awesome game.

Or you know, a visible significant advancement since they are one generation apart
Care to throw out some examples of what you consider a visible significant enhancement on such a game?
Double the size of the city, at least 2 playable characters, no loadings, even faster movement through the environment, new enemies, no more last gen release (thank fuck) and continuing the story people enjoyed last time.

Traversing the city and the combat is the highlight of the Spider-Man games and is quite fun. If that is boring to you, I'd love to know what is similar that is not boring to you.
This is so true. I I played through the first game twice, and even in my second play through I would just find myself swinging around because it was fun and relaxing.

I want cool collectibles. The whole “do X/X a number of times” got kinda boring. I really enjoyed the story missions, but they didn’t make the side stuff all that interesting. Finding the hidden cat was cool and then it didn’t feel like something I’d ever want to continuously keep doing. Definitely going to buy this sequel.
They come up with these ideas like chasing a bird is fun or doing some stuff for Harry. 🙄

I like the cool side stuff like having Peter Parker identity with something from the comics or maybe a memory of his. The Spider-Verse gets stupid after a while, so I’m glad this isn’t that.

Looks to be more ofthe same, but thats what I was expecting so Im not disappointed. I like that there are more ways to customize how they look. I just hope they curated the abilities a little better.

Spiderman 2 will probably be just a pass for me or wait on PS+. I don't particularly appreciate that it barely has any loading screens anymore, even the character switching shown is instantaneous, and fast travel from the map to gameplay, again, no loading.

I like my games even this gen with multiple loading screens, as they allow me to take bathroom breaks, create a sandwich, or twiddle my thumb to exercise.

Why not just hit pause instead?
