Honestly, owning most of these and I must come to the conclusion that a lot of hype around these releases is because they start as exclusives on a box and tribalism makes it good, other box bad.

Peoples expected that Sony would sweep in PC gaming to show us how AAA games are supposed to be, those poor PC guys with no real high budget AAA games, stuck with survivals, rogue, sims, experimental games and mods… they needed saving.

They would port Spider-Man 2 tomorrow and I wouldn’t even install it if it was given.

There’s many things I could say about modern PlayStation that does not resonate with me compared to their PSX & PS2 days but that’s starting a war with too many peoples in this place and even mods are on the button..

I agree 100%. People who only game on PC generally are not attracted by the types of games you usually see more in consoles which is why in certain genres there’s a larger sales discrepancy than others.

That's not free. Those games being on PC also devaluates games on PS5 and potentially reduce Playstation console gamers invested in the ecosystem as a whole. It's a bad strategy, from the start. There is a reason Nintendo don't port their games on PC. There is no 'free' money.

Besides what are those millions compared to the billions they are making on console games and services? Peanuts.

The games profits on PC just covered the entire budget and marketing for an new AAA game. Sony can use these funds to open up a brand new AAA studio to make new games. Seems like a massive win for PS5 only gamers to have a extra 2 or 3 AAA games per gen.

If the games had any major effect on the number of Playstation gamers invested into the PS5 we would either see a reduction in console sales (we don't), games selling less (we don't), or a upswing in the number of these games selling on PC (again, we don't). There is just no substantial evidence that droves of people are no longer purchasing the PS5 too play a handful of titles on PC 2-3 years later.

People buy PlayStation consoles specifically to play Sony’s third person cinematic games.

No one builds a PC to play them.

Of course Sony isn’t doing themselves any favors by waiting up to two years to release their PC ports. By then the hype’s died and we’re usually hearing how that game wasn’t that good ie: Forbidden West. I doubt there’s a lot of people waiting for that.

This is about what they deserved to sell, two things to note is that things continue to sell well on pc after launch, which is what both the graph and the "longer opportunity to sell" note suggest. Short term sales are one thing, but ports wont really do well at that, these games will continue to sell for years with big surges during sales. The second thing is that this is about direct steam sales only, there are many key sellers.

Lets see if they try to do day 1 to double or triple their total sales (at least for non-cross gen stuff like ratchet, since current gen is still behind the previous one on user count).

Being DRM free certainly didn't stop the likes of Elden Ring, Baldurs Gate 3 and Cyberpunk from being super high top chart sellers tho, selling more on PC than consoles even. Same for shittons of other games.

The thing I'm pointing out is everyone thought Sony was coming in to save this platform from the goop of survival games, etc. Why are you guys having >1M concurrent CS:GO players every day? Surely you need saving in the form of TRHUUPPPLLEE AAAYYYYYY games.

That's a mod, a free mod. 98% reviews on Steam, one of the highest rated game. I think I would recommend this game over nearly all of Sony games released on PC thus far. Fucking insane right? I get that some people may double dip to play the game again with better settings. But I think the Xbox approach is better here. If I buy a first party Xbox game…. I also have the PC version for free.


What Sony need to do is release day and date on PC and also set up their own PC store so if you already got the PS version you can have the PC version too.
