Xbox to address multi platform games in spring, says former employee

It is ok, trust in Phil, you all owed him one. Remember he turned around Xbox One ship, he giveth you GPU, he made Xbox a very strong suite of first party devs.

He is not afraid to make changes.

This is the time you put forward your faith. At worst, you are saving $499 for a separate box. But the Xbox brand, the Xbox Identity will go on, lives on strongly. 💚
He brought me day one PC releases for xbox games which also basically pushed the PlayStation releases on PC. He brought gamepass to PC. Honestly as a PC gamer he has been the best thing to happen at MS gaming for a looooong time.

Another thing I hadn't considered is - if MS are third party, it gives them greater opportunity to acquire more developers and publishers seen as "monopolistic practices" will no longer hold much leverage against them.

I guess they could just turn into Tencent and start vacuuming up Ubisoft and SEGA.
You forget the S and G. ;)

The twitter meltdowns lmao

If these people cared about playing Microsoft studios and Xbox games “at their best” they’d be playing on PC.

Everyone with a brain saw this coming

Not reporting profits for the Xbox brand, GP being too cheap for what it offered, games not being well reviewed nor selling well, future Xbox being ARM based and with no disc drive (from those leaks) and etc.

The writting was on the wall. It was only a matter of when.

Phill killed the Xbox brand

people are confident is going to be tomorrow
Yes 'people' have heard 'rumors' from 'sources'. Some people have been 'told'. I'm still 50:50 on this being a thing or just a massive circle jerk of people farming cheap clicks.

Putting games on PC had nothing to do with Xbox vs PlayStation. Sony's PC ports would have happened regardless of what Microsoft did.
You really think that if MS had kept nearly all their big games exclusive to their console that Sony would have greenlit ports to PC and been the console with no exclusives? I'm gonna say no way, but we have no way of knowing.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Everything reaks of phil not onboard with this stuff, greenberg and booty probably punching air right now.

Sara doesn't have the history of fighting sony, so alot easier for her to be the one to lead on this strategy.
They have nobody to blame but themselves. Under their leadership they have gone nowhere.

I'm saying Sony's PC ports were not a reaction to Microsoft's PC ports. If the console war were more competitive then perhaps both companies would be less inclinded to port to PC, but as things turned out, these were not chess moves in the console war at all. Microsoft and Sony are no more competitors in the PC space than Ubisoft and EA.

What time is it?

When you need to sell 7+ million copies of a title to break even, you are going to look towards other userbases. It's also why cross generation titles are here to stay.

It doesn't really matter to me though - MS had a terrible track record of trying to fuck over PC players and to fix that plus to shore up their flagging console business they started porting to PC like never before and this cleared the way for Sony to port to PC with minimal blow back.
The end result is all that matters - more games on PC.

As much fun this can be for some, it's a shame how Microsoft fumbled the entire market after and during the 360ERA. They ignored Europe, didn't market it properly, took ages for Xbox Live to be released in a functional state in most of Europe, while PSN was already working with local currencies (eastern europe etc).

The TV TV TV bit killed it, but I think what really killed it for me, is how they kept moving the goalpost. It's like that sketch in South Park where GRRM is saying the new book is coming soon. My big issue is that if Microsoft does go away in a major capacity, Sony will be the only major player. That's... not good, you'll end up with a situation like the current Nvidia and AMD market where Nvidia doesn't even have to try anymore.
Nailed it. If this all comes to pass we all lose. MS won't care what state these game release in. Sony will quit pushing hardware limits. Some are saying were headed for a videogame crash with GAAS games. Well, if GAAS games doesn't do it this surely will. Let's not even get started on what prices will be. Our right to challenge is given give up if MS leaves.

isn't this ironic after the ABK acquisition?

I'll bet my account vs yours. There is no chance of GamePass coming to PS5.

And again, what does controlling the message do to sell xbox units today. You're assuming they'll eventually deny the rumors, because that is the only thing that would slow the stem of concern from the xbox community over the future of xbox. Commenting on it at all other than to say it isn't true hastens the end of xbox.

How does them saying they're releasing games multiplatform control the message today that not commenting on it doesn't?

I don’t get why you think it won’t. Especially if MS ditches hardware. Sony are not gonna turn up their nose at the money or the chance to have all those games on PlayStations. They would make money off games sold on their store. And I’m sure they can work something out where they get a cut of the sub. It would probably just include MS games ( so no third party like the current gamepass.strictly MS published titles like gears and halo) so I see no reason why they wouldn’t.

lil'timmy dog is pissed because he knew this was going to happen. (he dosen't agree with the new strategy)

and he just said something crazy..but I didn't quite fully understand it.

something about the ads on GP and the console in 2026 but something about letting the console behind going full digital and killing the hardware.

I think the point is that when your biggest fanboy is this mad....you know a brand fucked up beyond repair.

Get that doom and gloom shit outta here. I am not weeping for any console maker. Especially a trillion dollar company like MS. I learned early on back in the 80's that console manufacturers come and go. I had a Colecovision just as the market crashed and I thought it was all over until Nintendo came along. Then guess what Nintendo F'd around and found out, that no one was going to put up with their shitty business practices and then the Genesis was born. Then Sony came along and took away business from Nintendo and Sega because the market at large wanted something different than they could provide. The same holds true now more than ever. There is no room for MS to try to be another Sony when Sony is already doing fine without MS. If Nintendo would be forced to go third party I'd hate it too, but I think they would be just fine after some adjustments. I don't think the market would die. Customers will not put up with a single company F'ng them over either. There has never been a real monopoly in gaming without it eventually falling apart at some point. The market has already survived Atari's, Nintendo's, Sega's, Sony's and MS's screw ups. It is not the end of the world if MS gets out of the console business.

Hate to break it to you but, Sonyfans don't consider Nintendo as competition and neither does Sony! This means yea, Sony will be a Monopoly! Checkmate! Imagine Sony, not having to one up MS in hardware VS costs next-gen. Let that sink in for a minute. See where those rising costs start to appear...
P.S. Laugh those crashes you spoke about happened for a reason. I should know I lived through them too. Actually, I hope none of this is true but, that's getting harder to believe.

rising cost like selling games for 100 USD to play it early? 🤣😂🤡

Clearly you don't understand how Sony makes their money.

GamePass canabalizes sales. The cut Sony would get from GamePass wouldn't make up for the losses in software royalties.

They could do GamePass if they wanted to.
