Star Wars Outlaws Main Character Already Hit With Criticism Due to Ubisoft Changing Actress Apperance

I mean, I do understand why they want her to be a bit more "scruffy-looking nerf-herder" in the game. She's supposed to be a poor scavenger or whatever, she's not gonna be looking like a styled supermodel. But yeah, don't know why they had to do that to her face.

New trailers aren't a good look for this character. Looks like she is wearing a wig. Not sure why they want to make girls look ugly. Guess I'll wait for Steam release and if lucky a Twi'lek mod.

These motherfuckers got this Venezuelan girl just to meet their diversity quota and then proceeded to uglify her just because.
If they had left her 3D model just the way she looks, the usual suspects would come out and claim that her design is not realistic, when, as someone who lives in one of the most touristic cities in Latin America, I can go for a stroll on the beach and see Latinas just as hot, if not hotter than her, walking around.

I just love that it's always some male character they look like the most. Without fucking fail. It's just so comical at this point.

Not sure if intentional, it may just be incompetence. After all Kassandra, who was afaik sculpted by hand (and not scanned, her voice actor looks very different) looked fantastic.

Tbh judging from this picture, "eastern" characters may look "beautiful", but they are all very feature-less and doll-like. Not particularly great either.

Best looking characters - both male and female - are currently coming out of Poland. Witcher and Cyberpunk have incredible cast. Distinct, human looking, charismatic.

Complaining that a video game character doesn't look like the person portraying them seems like something that people on era would do.

Culture warriors on 'both sides' are insufferable, and more alike than they realize.
This.

Ugly or pretty, it shouldn't matter as long as things are well made and not overly agenda-driven.

With that said, while I don't care if they don't look alike per se, there's something weird going on with that in-game character pic.

I'd be so embarrassed and say we just changed the model entirely than say it was meant to look like her. Because they don't look alike. Too much is altered to even say there's much left of whoever the model was meant to be.

Who to blame, the bad artists or the persons deliberately asking to reduce attractiveness.

Being or acting ugly is NOT attractive by the vast majority of the world. Why would you keep insisting on this.

Even ugly, disgusting stuff designed for a game, like monsters and such in From games, have an appeal. But this let's just make ugly characters is off putting. Not a deal breaker, but very off putting. I'm not even into needing to sex things up, but I do like attractive, appealing, pleasant visual things! Hell, Chun-Li in SF6 is fully covered and looks gorgeous, where I actually find the swimsuit stuff quite ugly instead.

But it's fine, my eyes will always be drawn first to what is visually appealing, and right now that's things like FFVII Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Gran Blue and pretty much nothing coming from US or western EU studios.

Honestly, I've said since I was a kid that America in particular lack presentation. UK a lot too (gentleman days are long dead).

It's Say those shots are cherry picked but there's certainly an issue in the way female characters are rendered by western studios.
I guess they wouldn't want to annoy the purple-hair crowd by making females look too good and hot. Anything that is beautiful these days is offensive to some.

Where do you live? Asking for err a friend

'How masculine can we make this woman's face' seems to be the starting point for most western devs. Her jaw in some of those shots in the trailer is just plain distracting. It's huge. The original model doesn't look like that.

This feeds into the story as well, because these characters tend to bear no relation to women in the real world. They're just men dressed up as women. I'll be very surprised if this game bucks that trend. The character design certainly doesn't. I mean, the whole starting idea here seems to be a gender-swapped Han Solo.

You just want to take every modern female character aside and say 'It's ok, just be yourself.'

It has happened before with Aloy, that a few bad camera angles were screenshotted and spread everywhere to make her look bad, when in fact she looks beautiful in Horizon Forbidden West.

So i thought i should watch the trailers for Star Wars Outlaws myself before judging on one bad screenshot...........but, uh.....yeah. She looks unattractive in the trailers too. Maybe not as bad as the couple of screenshots being used in the tweets/OP, but the in-game face definitely does not look as attractive as the face model. The changes are subtle, but present. And even a few changes - slightly different eyes, jawline, messy hair - make the character look much more ugly compared to the beautiful face model.

"Sexy beautiful women aren't realistic so lets uglify the fuck out of our actual sexy beautiful real actress to make her more realistic" - Western devs

This is stupid. It seams that people are overreacting (as usual) and make it worse then it actually is.

First of all - did Ubisoft hired her to scan her face and body or did they hired her only for voice and maybe mocap. Because if it's the second one then there is no news here. Not always voice actor looks the same as game character. If it's the first one though, then yeah, they made a retarded decision because you don't pay for someone face just to change it completly. It's not even technically viable because your blend shapes scans (which you may don't want to do but still) will be off.

So it depends what they did. I think this looks like they hired her only for VO and maybe (but probably not) mocap. That's it.

The case that many people may don't like her look (I don't, there is something weird with her, but all human characters here look weak/generic) is something different.

Ok after watching this video this is just straight up manufactured outrage using cherry picked pics. If anything, they made the in game model look better than the actual person who is in this video.
I agree, she looks good in that video, but those are all cutscenes. I thought she looked good as well before I watched the gameplay trailer. Either the people creating the character model made her uglier on purpose or they are incompetent.

Why do they even bother hiring models at this point?

What makes me laugh every single time is people defending this by telling technology isn't there yet. Ffs we already had good face models in the PS3/360 era and have they played games like Death Stranding?

I remember her looking good in the trailer. What the fuck happened?

See, the clips here make her look good. How do we go from that to the pictures from the topic?

Cherry picking and half-truths

1. The screenshot in the OP/tweets make her look worse than the rest of the trailer
2. If you watch the full trailer, the in-game face actually does look unattractive if compared to the face model Humberly González.
3. We don't know for a fact whether Humberly González was supposed to be the face model or only the voice / mocap performer.

Edit:

GAFfers, come on, if we want to be better than the purple asylum crowd, let us tone down the reactionary criticism and check the facts. If you see the full new story trailer (and the gameplay showcased last year) the in-game face does not look as bad as the screenshots in those two tweets. Those screenshots seem cherry picked to make her look worse. I too think the in-game model does not look nearly as beautiful as Humberly González, but also not as bad as those screenshots. In fact, in this particular shot, she looks kinda good:

This just doesn't look "ugly" just looks badly made model or badly made in character creation as some kind of joke.

I'm not even asking them make them look"sexy" here, AT VER LEAST make them look decent.
You truly are the nicest person on this forum to respect this guy's gender, but I for one will not.

I agree with this. Screenshots captured from motion tend to paint a different picture. It also doesn't help that the facial animation kind of sucks ass in the trailer. I think her character model looks fine imo.

So UBI made the in game model look worse than cutscene on purpose? In game models always look worse than cutscene. Yall need to stop the cap LMAO.

I think that at this point is how they honestly try to blur the lines between male and female characters to allow transgender folks to identify with the character.

There is broadly a make.believe problem where people feel like or say that they cannot identify with people that do not look like them, but it is more about this perception that if you do not see yourself portrayed you do not exist so it is constant external validation required :/.

The 'East' comparison is definitely not the best examples and yet it still smokes those hilarious mutant models from the West. Once the ladies from Kojima Productions and Capcom enter the fray, it's an even bigger no contest.

I'm looking at the game right now and she looks great. I'm not sure how good of a likeness but they didn't make her ugly. Op images are cherry picked
What you mean? those images are from the game, the character looks like that in the game. Terrible hair style, looks like she's had cosmetic surgery gone wrong. If there's a reason for a character to look a certain way I'm all for it but this? I'm not saying the model should be drop dead gorgeous but this is a very unappealing looking character IMO.

That's because in the east that is literally the goal for what they perceive as "beautiful," doll like is the goal.

On the flipside the west's goal is diversity, which they have in spaids as long as that diversity stays a long way away from what the west's idea of beauty is.

Not just transgender - this is also a major feminist/woke cause. The idea being that beautiful women in media do damage to real women because they are unrealistic and make women feel bad about themselves. Or that that beauty is purely there for males to gaze upon, and is therefor sexist. Those are the two main reasons: to not cater to a perceived male audience, and to make some sort of feminist statement. That's why you don't see it in Japan - they don't buy into that ideology. It's really pretty simple to unpack what's going on here. Good luck to all the suckers who still deny this.

Meanwhile, at the same time this is going on, you have the whole feminist angle also affecting the story. So you have this weird complex of jealousy and resentment where feminists want whatever they think men have, because in their eyes, women are no different to men and should be able to have the same traits. So you see Han Solo and think 'I want that. Why can't a woman be just like Han Solo. And you see traditionally feminine traits, and you think 'Why should women be relegated to that'. Women should be able to act like men too.

This toxic brew is basically responsible for 95% of modern female characters.

2077 has the prettiest cast of all time..including a majority of npcs.

CPR's deal with epic and the inevitable use of Metaahumans and its "average looking dna algorithm" in the next game is gonna be depressing.

Also i like your use of charismatic. Its so true even there less than handsome/pretty characters still have charismatic features....but for how long? :/

Ubisoft aiming for that free DEI money. What a surprise.

And so my accidental boycott of Ubisoft continues (not on purpose, I simply was never interested again in their games since Blood Dragon and will remain so).

Holy hyperbole.

The game stand out because it was released in a period where we got fucking yetis instead of good looking female characters.

Old games had plenty of good looking women, just less realistic because the rendering was not as advanced.
