Dark Souls 1.04 Patch Notes - [Patch 1.05 Has Been Released On 360/PS3 U.S. & 360 EU]

Community ruined.

The fact they took THIS LONG to release the patch is unforgivable, to be honest.

Not really something i'd attribute to FROM, but rather NamcoBandai.

They only understand the language of paid patches (DLC)

A little communication would have gone a long way, but alas...

Tried on 360.

This patch owns. Lock-on is fixed, controls feel more responsive and also you can now rate messages without the crappy soapstone. Just read the message and press Select/Back twice.

Damn I need this patch on Ps3 but now I have Skyrim and Saints Row 3.. LOL

What was the "Kiln Skip Glitch"? I never heard of that one. Was that how that guy did the early speed run?

According to a friend, button lag isn't fixed. He hasn't had it happen for attacks yet, but he's still seen major lag at times when trying to use his Estus flask.

And really, if we're laying blame for this patch being late, I'll put more of that on Microsoft than I will Namco Bandai. Until I hear otherwise, I'm absolutely convinced this delay was due to Microsoft and their shit policies. I can understand the intention behind the policy - try to convince companies to put more effort into QA and don't encourage them to put out patch after patch - but at times like this you see where that policy can end up screwing over consumers.

So yeah, until I see legit proof that wasn't the case, tin foil hat on, conspiracy theories in full effect.

Does the "press Select twice to rate message" instruction appear anywhere in the game, or do you have to read online patch notes to find out about it?

is this patched that was released for North America/Europe PS3's included the 1.05 patch - or is it just the 1.04 patch with all the inherent problems that 1.05 had to retroactively fix?

I know Japan has 1.04 and 1.05. So - what about the North America?

It's 1.05. Thread title needs to be updated, I guess.

Oh shit, just when I was trucking along in Skryim, they finally released this patch for us. Must resist the urge for now.

Welp, better just bite the bullet and download this before I become dependent on crystal ring shield or iron flesh. Oh, and the pyro glove I spent a fortune on... and the silver knight shield... Still, the benefits outweigh the costs... right?

I'm mainly playing PvE, so the increased drops and souls and purchasable upgrade materials will make it worth it... right?

edit: What does base equipment burden increased mean? That I can wear more? Or that now I'm more burdened by default and I can wear less?

If the benefit is dying more and mastering more of the game on your own skill, then yes.

I bet this patch will make it harder if/when I replay the game and get to
Ornstein and Smough
as Iron Flesh saved my ass in that fight.

You should be able to summon more players to help out in that fight, though.

At the time, I couldn't find any. And I wanted to know that I could beat it on my own, knowing I could handle it if the online was kaput one day.

The same cannot be said for
Gwym
. The fucker ruined me, but he was simply one shotted by a Japanese player with Homing Soulmass. I almost fell out of my chair in laughter to see the final boss defeated in what was about 8 seconds.

I just found it out myself after hearing some rumours.
The first time I tried I only pressed it once and the window came up, even without reading the message. Then I just couldn't reproduce it again, thought I was hallucinating or something lmao.
But after trying some stuff out, I came to the conclusion that reading the message + pressing Select twice will get you the window almost every try. It's kinda bugged like the old lock-on system.

I already beat O & S with a little help from CRS. I think I could have done it without though with some practice. I haven't been using Iron Flesh much either. I'm really more annoyed by the nerfs to equipment I've invested in, but it sounds like they've also changed enemy HP and soul values, which I wish I knew more about.

I never got a chance to whip out my crystal shield and iron flesh! Guess I shouldn't complain that I didn't get stuck and feel the need to use them.

I'm taking the fact that I need to replace half my armor and shield as a positive to keep playing. Game was starting to get a touch stale at the point that I maxed out my gear for the first playthrough.

You can carry more gear now.

Sounds like Anor Londo has become a pretty good farming spot. Silver Knights drop 1000 and the giants guarding O&S drop 3500! You can get 12000 souls in one relatively short run.

Skeletons and ghosts now drop souls, but it's negligible.

It's good that the patch is out for the west and I was holding off playing the game until now. Time to dive in after finishing up Skyward Sword.

Though I wouldn't blame all the game's longevity or lacktherof on the patch delay. First, Demon's Souls didn't launch during a season with an Elder Scrolls title, that's stiff competition for time sinks. Second, Demon's Souls whole world tendency system is a lot more vague, and took much longer to figure out than Dark Souls. I personally believe Dark is the better game... but Demon's is replayable in a very different way, and invites more experimentation with the game world. It also all but required a concentrated and dedicated community to help solve the mysteries in the game. No wonder it persisted for so long.

Thanks for the answers. One more question: "Damage reduced on some mobs" - does that mean they do less damage to you or you do less damage to them?

Oh nice, 1.05 came out US side? Now I just want to log on and help people in NG+++ kill Orenstein, Smough, and 4 Kings. Can't wait to see if this Dexterity build does a significantly more amount of damage with an Uchi +15. Maybe I can actually burn a king down before a 2nd one spawns!

I'm in the UK and I got the patch today (360).

Switching between enemies is now possible when locked on; it shows you how many souls you need to reach the next level; states 'retrieved' instead of 'you recovered' for some reason.

These were the most obvious changes.

My guess is that its all about the 360 version. Microsoft gives you the first patch for free, afterwards you have to pay them in order to get a patch up. Hence, if Namco knew two patches were going out, they figured they should just wait.

Something new: When killing the 2nd gargoyle in Anor Londo, it gave me an automatic drop of a gargoyle helm and gargoyle shield (never even saw the latter before).

It wasn't even a drop on the ground like gargoyle helm normally are - it came up on my screen without me picking anything up as soon as the gargoyle was killed.

Oh, that's nice. It used to be that if you wanted the halberd or the shield you'd have to basically kill yourself after killing one gargoyle to repeat the fight until it dropped.

What?! Seriously?

As far as I know, thats why multiplatform titles dont get a whole lot of patches. Sony will, however, hook you up.
