GameStop Says The Last Guardian Calls Made in Error

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Regardless of TLG's actual status, Gamestop, one of the US' biggest peddlers of games has just informed everyone that was interested enough in this title to drop money on it, that its not happening.

To say The Last Guardian needed new actual gameplay footage showing yesterday to alleviate fears the project is COMPLETELY FUCKED is an understatement at this point.

I also kind of wonder why you guys hate Gamestop so much. They are in the business to sell videogames. They do that well and in every case I've personally experienced, it was with excellent service. I'm sorry but i'm just not seeing why the company is so horrible.

Why hasn't the thread title changed, wow GAF mods are only after the HITZZ.

lol

I don't think that little Sony tweet qualifies for an update. They have showed time and again that they have no qualms with lying to their fans and customers simply so they can announce things on their own timeline and in their own fashion.

If it is canceled I hope the storyline is leaked. I had a bet with someone about who dies at the end - the boy or the guardian.

I always felt that the boy was the last guardian. Basically it was his task to protect the bird/cat/rat thingie as it is the last of its kind.

I woudn't take the IGN article at face value.

I can say Sony confirmed to me it was cancelled.

Why doesn't IGN state the source from Sony that says its not cancelled because if its a PR person, then this is as much bullshit as the Gamestop calling it cancelled.

Maybe the game is not cancelled, but you can't be blind/dumb enough to think that SOMETHING is amiss.. with everything that's happened recently with production and what not.. and there is no way on god's green earth that gamestop will give back money...

something is up. And Sony should come out and just say what is going on instead of "the game is no cancelled". That's just bad PR... Explain WHY gamestop is cancelling and removing the game from their website.

Companies never confirm retail release dates, cancellations, etc.

It's always within the next few days/weeks.

With that said, I hope this isn't the case.

If it is, one of the greatest game developers of all time will have been denied their chance to close out what has been a landmark achievement. I know this sounds like one of those crazy "I'm an expert." posts, but the loss of this game is the loss of what Sony has always aspired to in software publishing.

Remember the time they had a nation-wide mandate to open up every PC box for Deus Ex: HR and remove the coupons for the free OnLive version, then shrink wrap every box back up again and sell them back to the customers without telling them? Yeah.

Whatever the answer is to this situation, it is not "Sony just isn't going to release it in North America". I mean, come on. Come on. The only way TLG doesn't come here is if the game doesn't come out at all.

Terrible policies, terrible customer service, deceptive sales practices, lack of any concern over the quality of product the end customer gets, recorded instances of removing included content they didn't want to promote, recorded instances of destroying old games rather than allowing them to be sold/donated/etc., creating stores to run local used game shops out of business and then closing those stores, damaging publishers/developers with their used game sales practices, being a major agent of fueling the shit pre-order / exclusive content world we now find ourselves in, etc.

Maybe Sony changed the SKU, which resulted in the existing one being "cancelled" and triggering the automated phone calls.

Sony really needs shine some sort of positive PR on this game in any way shape or form, if isn't currently circling the development hell toilet bowl, ready to disappear from our sight. Nothing about the last 3 months has reassured me this game isn't destined for the vaporware hall of fame.

Gamestop just wants your dollars spent elsewhere with them instead of a game that doesn't have a solid release.

If people thinks a game like this could be ported on VITA, they're crazy. If anything, they should wait the PS4.

So have Sony wait for it to be in production for 8 years? Given the amount of copies Team Ico games sale this thing likely won't make it's money back as it is.

Adding development time and resources so they could upgrade to PS4 level would be insanity.

What do you mean by "SKU"?

GameStop sets the SKU for each product they sell. Sony has no input on that.

If "Sony changed the SKU", then it means that "Sony cancelled the North American release of Last Guardian for the PS3."

Didn't they also say he didn't leave Team ICO and then two weeks later it was "ACTUALLY, ITS TRUE."?

Yes, they did. I've seen few if any mentions in this thread of the fact that Ueda did just leave Sony a few weeks back.

The Last Guardian is dead. There was never anything more to it but concept video. Total Revengeance scenario here, but without Platinum to finish the job.

I would tag quote you but ...

Why would gamestop want you to move money? They are basically earning free interest on your five bucks... especially if this game never comes out.

There is probably some legal mumbo jumbo law saying they can't knowingly continue to keep your money if they know they can't deliver said product.

Also, about the IGN news, this wouldn't be the first time they've cited Sony for something only for it to turn out false. Most recently, it was regarding if Uncharted 3 sales were shipped or sold through.
