I wish they would make up their mind on if this is a prequel or what. Why have Weyland or space jockeys if they aren't related to the Alien movies? It's not like Ripley accidentally traveled through time when she crash landed on Earth in Alien Resurrection and created a new timeline...

Those are children in that shot so Alien isn't exactly consistent with giving a sense of scale.

Those shots also make it clear they were not in some kind of suit. The Space Jockey is a fossilized internal structure, with some typical Giger bio-mechanical elements.

Yeah. I'll be one sad panda if what I've always though of as an interesting and mysterious alien was some dude in a suit.

At this point you may as well be a sad panda now, and just come at it openly when it releases. I think it is clear with the ancient astronaut themes, and other set stuff we have seen that it is a suit.

However I still think we will be surprised how these suits may work etc. I am convinced the helmet and nozzle/nose thing is close enough to a face hugger that the suits could be highly bio-mechanical and might even attach itself to the being in an organic fashion. I think the suits are alive.

I just watched the Alien trailer. I'd never seen it before. The Prometheus trailer is so similar. Even the music. I guess that's the point. Looking forward to this.

Space-Jockey, as it appears in ALIEN, could be a combination of the suit and some kind of bio-mechanical interface that "grows" between it and the ship.

Im sure i saw a tv version in 1989 that had all the footage but the colony scene.
Yea you saw it. I saw it too. That was my favorite version.

I never understood why the scenes with the miniguns running out of ammo in the tunnels were cut out of every other version. That part was great. Really played into the tension (especially with Hudson of all characters counting down the remaining ammo).

I haven't seen a good trailer mashup in a long, long time. TDK trailer mashups pretty much started this whole crazy of amateurs editing together random shots with no thought as to what made the original trailer's choice of images special.

The same goes for TGWDTT mashups lately. Awful.

i can appreciation well made fan mashups. i thought this one was quite nice in setting the tone of the movie to be more dark like prometheus. i liked the fight club tgwdtt mashup a lot. thought it fit together amazingly well.

The people are the size of his arm.

From Giger's Alien, page 34, Giger writing about viewing the set: "In his seat in the center of the 'turntable' is the pilot, eight meters (26 feet) tall; he has an internal framework of steel tubing to ensure stability."

That's really huge, I'm kind of wondering if those are space suit or just smaller statues in the prometheus screenshot, but the hallways are so small, which would mean the statues were created by people of similar size of those statues.

I just noticed the 'suit' and ship have different colors. It's also looks as if the suit has overflowed on the rest of the chair similar to a dripping candle. I wouldn't be surprized if the suits are facehuggers specialized for a certain task that grow onto their hosts and, in the space jockeys case, fuse to the ship.

The difference in size between the space jockey in alien en the prometheus trailer could be a continuity error but it could just as well be that space jockeys come in different sizes.

Wow, those statues/suits totally remind me of this illustration I came across. Don't quite remember the source.

And yet, it doesn't look that much off from the space jockey seen in the trailer. He's just missing the nose nozzle thing.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Prequel that takes place a good deal of time before Alien, it would seem.
Yep, I hope that hasn't changed any. It seems it is less gritty than the Alien films, at least on the human-side. I realize Alien Resurrection is canon, but I remember how crappy Earth seemed to be so much that it was referred to as a shit-hole, or something to that effect.

I'm still extremely excited about this movie, more so than any other film this year. I wish there was more buzz generated around it. I would see TV shows and magazine articles mentioning all the big movies this year, and a lot of them never mention Prometheus.

LOL there is an 'international trailer' that a lot of movie sites are posting that is literally the exact same as the teaser, only the text has been removed.

IGN said the international trailer has some new footage but apparently that's not true....

edit: Definitely no new shots in this, lame.

Wall-E is actually based on Silent Running

That's awesome! Cool trivia, Joel Hodgson took bits of Silent Running as partial inspiration for MST3K (ie: both Joel and Leonard are "hippies in space" with robot friends). I actually confirmed this with Joel himself after a Cinematic Titanic show in Minneapolis back in October.

I'm still in denial with that bald guy being the space jockeys, just because how weird the bald guy would have to look from the front due the his eyes being so far from each other

Edit: actually I'm kind of ok with that if that's actually how he looks, so weird looking.

Has Ridley Scott's explanation of the connection between Alien and Prometheus been posted?

Spoilers!

http://io9.com/5888385/ridley-scott-may-have-explained-the-connection-between-alien-and-prometheus

Ridley Scott said:
When the first ‘Alien' movie and ‘Blade Runner' were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in ‘Blade Runner', and Weyland-Yutani in ‘Alien'. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That's the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.

That spoiler isn't the full truth (I mean, you can just watch the trailer to see that there's more than that).

That spoiler however confirms the previous theory/rumor that
Prometheus disowns the AvP franchise (like anyone ever took them as cannon) in that Weyland Yutani is just Weyland. The Yutani merger hasn't happened yet.
