Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I have to agree that finding bags in merchants to increase inventory is a pain. only found a few merchants that sold them. i'm at 90 slots and it's still not enough. currently lvl 20 and 20+ hours in.

Who sells bags?

Out of curiosity, what's terrible about the dodge attack? That's the leaping ground pound one, right? I forgot what the hammer special attacks were...there's that kick one, I remember.

That's only from block. The hammer doesn't have a special combo from dodge.

Spoiler regarding location of bag sellers:

Gorhart, Ysa (inn), Adessa, Mel Senshir, Rathir (scholia arcana). Someone mentioned finding one in the wild but I've yet to see that one.

Where's the Scholia Arcana in Rathir? Do I have to complete one of their faction quests first?

What does putting items as Junk do?
It puts them in one location in your inventory so that when you're talking to a merchant you can "sell all junk" with the press of one button. "Junk" items also don't show up with the rest of your weapons and gear when you're looking through those sections of your inventory.

Well, to put it in perspective, I dodge into all my initial swings so getting the from-Dodge specials all kind of mess with that. The fact that Cross Slash (Daggers) is a basic attack, more or less, was a godsend to my Finesse/Sorcery playthrough after Cyclone (Faeblade). Anyway, yes, it's the leap into a ground slam with a limited area of effect. It just takes so long to go through and I'd rather just ... start a regular combo.

In retrospect, that's probably why I liked Lunge so much. It let me cover the distance I used rolling/blinking for and let me forgo using the Dodge special.

And where can I find a fence? I got stolen items taking up inventory slots.
to sell all to merchant. junk section is also the only place to destroy items. you sell fenced items to Travelers and also some other merchants who allow it in certain cities.

Thanks. I need more space.

Which do you like better (game, not aesthetics) hammer or great sword?

The great sword. Hammer's are way too slow and fugly. I laid waste to some Jottums (spelling?) with a great sword. for crowd control and mages I use the charkrums

If I could find a greatsword that did more damage than the hammer I'm using I would prefer greatswords. I've spent a fair amount of time with both but I like that the greatsword has a 4-hit combo instead of 3 (if I remember correctly).

I asked this question on the last page but I don't think anyone answered it --- do the damage stats on weapons factor in how many skill points you've put towards that weapon type or is that something that's done behind the scenes?

I was planning on going full sorcery but then I got a nice pair of daggers and tried them out - yep now I am sorcery/finesse. Staff is good for when I need more AOE and daggers are good for the slower, hard-hitting enemies.

it's hard sticking to one class only. I wasn't gonna bother until I saw the health/armor skills in Might tree. I'm currently a Battlemage. Love my gal. only have 2 points in Finesse lol.

Hammers should always have better (base) damage than a Greatsword.

The listed value is without any bonuses. It's also terribly, terribly misleading as it's simply the sum of all damages listed on the weapon. Which means it factors Damage over Time effects the same as everything else when it comes to calculating it's displayed total.

Edit: That is to say, 40 Physical/20 Piercing with +30 Physical Damage will show a 90 while 20 Physical/10 Piercing with 20 Fire Damage and 40 Burning over 5 seconds will show the same amount despite, in practice, being vastly different weapons for overall damage output.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can get some +Ability bonuses; for the weapon combo abilities, you can't go over cap like you can on other abilities (which cap at +2 over their natural limit), so 1 point is probably sufficient in all combos if you can get the other +2 from items.

Are these gems you make yourself? I think I have one that is +1 to the first two levels of the skill tree. I am assuming there are gems that work for more than just the bottom two levels?

Edit: I also wonder if it is worth getting a skill you wouldn't normally because you can get a free boost from the +gems. Used to do that in Diablo 2 all the time.

You can make an Epic Gem that adds +1 to a single tree or +1 to the first four tiers of all the trees. However, it's pretty easy to find Set equipment (or even Uniques) that give a bonus to a tree and the
three Factions (Warsworn, Travelers, Scholia Arcana) each result in a Twist of Fate that boosts their respective tree by 1 permanently
.

Also of note, there are some skills (well, I've only seen one so far) that are capped to +1 over their normal level limit.

Edit: I also wonder if it is worth getting a skill you wouldn't normally because you can get a free boost from the +gems. Used to do that in Diablo 2 all the time.

I mean, I guess you could but I haven't really found too many builds that would use it.

I've maxed blacksmithing but still can't salvage yellow/purple items. Will that ever be possible?

Barring a few odd (and/or quest related) cases of it working, you can't.

hey guys, what exactly does this widescreen 'fix/patch' do?

My game is running @ 1080p.. so wouldn't it be widescreen? Is it for res higher than 1080p

please explain : )

With the KOA plugin it lets you change the FOV in-game. Basically, you kind of hack it to give you whatever FOV you want. I'm running with an FOV of 90 and it's great. You can actually see more than a tiny piece of area around your character, and it helps a lot with battles.

It's slightly glitchy, as in some cutscenes will be a bit stretched out looking, and sometimes you'll see under the ground a little bit from the camera angle during one of those preloaded cut scenes where enemies pop up behind or something, but it's overall very minor and very much worth it.

The only thing that I've had to do specifically with it is enable it in-game, then exit back to the menu and return to the game. It'll look fish-eyed initially, but doing that fixes it for the duration of my gameplay.

I was thinking something along the lines of you could drop "Mark of Flame" from a 5 to a 4, and put a single point into "Sphere of Protection." Then when you get a couple of +gems you could turn the Mark and Sphere to 6 and 3 respectively. Especially if you base your build on the assumption you are going to get +gems.

Why is that? Are they slower or is there some other reason for that design decision?

Yeah, I had noticed how the overall number factored damage over time equally with everything else, that is quite strange.

It's a shame that there isn't anywhere to see how your skill points affect weapon stats without doing some quick math.

It's an Epic Gem so you can only use one of them. Also, you'd want +3 to get Mark of Flame to 7 (and Sphere to 4). The cap is +2 over their limit, not +2 in general.

And, yeah, you could start moving points around so you can get more skills but it starts to get more into getting too many active skills than you have room for (for console/controller players). That's more what I meant. I tried to do some point salvaging on my build when I could do +4 skills but I was picking up skills I'd never use due to active ability slot limitations and many skills were maxed out anyway just so I can reach the next tier.

Edit: If you can get it to work for you though, great. Just saying I couldn't really find as great a use for it as I had envisioned :( Universalist build may get a lot of mileage out of it though!

Why is that? Are they slower or is there some other reason for that design decision?

Same reason that Faeblades do more damage than Daggers: Swing speed. The listed (base) damage for Hammers will just always be higher. The right bonuses on one but not the other can of course change things but with the exact same bonuses on either weapon, Hammers will just show more.

It also ignores percentage damage boosts. The game seems to use very little RNG (in fact, none it seems) for the damage system so I hope to figure out how it all works soon. Just need the free time, I guess.

So I'm loving every minute of this but I'm finding myself a little overwhelmed with all the quests available, I feel like I'm out leveling everything so I decided I want to focus on the faction quests and the main quests for now.

Right now I'm working on House of Ballads but how long does it go for? Like should I be doing 1 or 2 from each faction then move to the next faction? Or finish a faction to completion then move to the next? I just want to try to keep everything similarly leveled. I don't want to stick with the HoB quests only to come out of it later at like lvl 30 and have the rest of the game be a breeze because I out leveled all of it.

each Faction quest is REALLY lengthy. took me half a day of playing it to finish. i'm a sucker for the lore so i listened to everything rather than skipping so maybe that contributed to the length. i haven't finished the other faction quests yet but the bosses from HoB are pretty challenging on Normal.

Is there a full out guide to the best stuff to look out for/get for blacksmithing for various classes? I'm about 30-40 hours in and This and sagecrafting are the only two things i didn't bother with all game, but after hearing that they're really powerful, I figured i should give it a try.

Edit: I'm full might and I really just want +crit, +damage, +health% and the like.

i was a bit impatient experimenting with the gem combinations so i did a search and found a good Sagecraft guide linked in the official forums.

As far as the raw content of each faction is concerned, it's a handful of dungeons for each of them and some travel time. So, they're only a few hours long sans the dialogue. I wouldn't worry too much on the scaling, though. I did House of Ballads early on (~Level 20) but the rest were still throwing of level enemies at me in their dungeons even into my mid-30s.

Edit: I'm full might and I really just want +crit, +damage, +health% and the like.

Part of me wants to say it'll depend on the build but the absolute best way to min/max damage is to basically go full Leather for +Crit Damage% and stack Crit%. Make up the loss of Armor through Damage Resistance.

So I guess the ideal way to play the game is to pick two weapon types that you like and only compare their damage values to weapons in the same category? I'm not sure of a fair way to compare a greatsword or a longsword to a hammer, in other words, especially given all of the factors you've mentioned.

If you're a min/maxer, then you'll definitely want to invest a lot of points into blacksmithing and sagecraft. It's not really necessary for the game though, since the loot you find is generally good enough to get the job done with ease.

If I had to pick one, I'd go with sagecrafting to tack on a few gems to your weapon/armor slots. Blacksmithing does get you better gear than what you'd find, but like I said, it's hardly necessary.

Personally, I say focus on Detect Hidden first and foremost, then maybe Persuasion to get more out of the story/dialogue. If I had a lot of skill points to invest, I'd probably up dispelling too, since those minigames are such a pain.

Other than Detect Hidden, I've been splitting my SP between Blacksmithing and Sagecrafting, and the combination of the two has made the non-combat part of the game infinitely more fun for me. I love to take a break from questing and fighting to forge better gems, salvage my drops, and then smith some bad-ass gear. The Smithing is terrific because it really enables the player to min/max around their preferred character type; and it only becomes more and more useful as the game progresses.

I'm a level 17 Finesse/Might mix, playing on Hard, and am about 25 hours into the game; and so far, other than recipes and Minor Healing Potions early on, I've only purchased maybe half a dozen gear-related items from the vendors. Between the drops and my leveled-up Sagecrafting + Smithing, money has become rather useless at this point.

I love knowing that, at any time, and can pay a nominal fee to completely respec. my character--this takes a way a ton of the pressure surrounding the concern of messing up a build. Oh, and it lets you delve into the huge variety of combat options w/o starting a whole new game.

Loving this game even more than I anticipated, excited to see what the future holds for 38 Studios.

Also: I would love a patch that allows the UI gauges to fade out when not in use b/c I'm tired of the Image Retention they cause on my Panny Plasma. Maybe it wouldn't happen if my gaming sessions weren't 3-4 hours at a time, but, hey, it's their fault for making such an awesome game.

I've been thinking about this as well. I don't care about doing it for the sake of "immersion," I just want the HUD to go away when I'm not in combat so I don't have to worry about my TV. :p

Greatswords should be just Slow. The in-game loading screen tip is incorrect on them being the slowest weapons as well.

Basically or try to factor the swing speed into things. I'd try both Greatswords and Hammers out and see which moveset you like better and stick with it. Switching types should be more about that rather than the listed number since it doesn't necessarily tell the whole story.

Or just numbers be damned and do whatever.

Okay, I guess I just read that wrong or something. I might go back to greatswords now.

Yeah, the problem for me is knowing how much the swing speed actually factors in. I guess the only good way to find out is by using both of them. I used greatswords for awhile (probably 5-10 hours) but once I found a very powerful hammer I made the switch and haven't looked back. Knowing that greatswords are faster might be all I need to switch back to them, though, since I do like the way they look and how they function quite a bit.

Did the House of Valor quests before going to sleep last night - wish they were longer. One complaint is that the gear they give you throughout the quests are all for Might or Finesse characters - there's a piece for Sorcery, but it has a Might requirement, making them viable only for hybrids. And the gear itself kinda blows.

I unlocked Gambit and Executioner midway through those quests, and they're amazing skills. Gambit is basically a personal minefield that you can kite things through, and Executioner is just rape. Couple that with the smokebomb and how you can one-shot just about any humanoid with it, and the Finesse character is doing extremely well.

The game does feel too easy now, though, since I just started stacking health. lvl 23 or so with 500 hp. Still not crafting, just using junk I grabbed off the field.

How do we go about asking for said patch?
Probably by addressing Curt or one of the other guys either here or on the official forums, although I'd have to imagine they have more pressing issues to worry about this soon after launch. If anything it could get added in with a previously planned patch, I suppose.

Anything I can do against the constant staggering (as a might/sorcerer)?

I attribute this partly to the enemies which magically adjust their attacks while they are already in motion to still hit me. I can understand magic being homing but the window for doding without melee/spear throw attacks hitting me is kinda small for my liking.

Health and Mana regen are utility gems so you can make epic gems of these correct?

I'm a bit disappointed with the blacksmithing and sagecrafting so far because you can only attach epic gems to armor and utility gems to smithed weapons.

In about 40 hrs of gameplay(360) I've had 2 instances where I was fighting some Ettin and killed them during a fateshift and after coming out of the shift my character clipped into the environment and I had to reload from a previous save. Otherwise I'm loving the shit out of the sorcery tree.

Meteor is sublime!

i learned to parry after like 10 hours in. i was just dodging before but parrying is way satisfying.

Relentless Assault makes you stagger proof. Besides that, dodging/parrying better?

Good points, I'll try to see if I can learn it, but the only games I've ever been decent at parrying are the Assasins Creed games since my reflexes are pretty bad.

Only played 10 hours so far as a pure finesse rogue on hard and am enjoying the combat quite a bit. Hard difficulty has a few moments where I take some rough hits, but I can mostly maneuver and avoid significant damage/danger. No deaths yet, yay! Level 8 and having fun exploring around/not worrying too much about finishing the main quest. Focusing on side quests and faction quests first while doing the occasional main quest if it happens to be nearby. Haven't dabbled in any kind of crafting yet, but plan to focus on sagecraft first followed by blacksmith a bit later on. I thought I was going to go alchemy and put points into that, but I plan to respec later as I am overflowing with potions already (30+), can't imagine having to carry more. Might just vendor all the excess and keep a few healing potions handy.

Overall pleasantly surprised by this game, and really curbed my boredom with games in general lately.
