Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Except the PSX menu looked like this

or

[I MG]http://img.xrmb2.net/images/693913.jpeg[/IMG]

depending on the firmware version.

Though maybe that PSX had a different menu than a standard PSX, dunno about that.

I find it amusing how similar this looks to the Vita's setup now.

Asked if it was releasing Wii U prematurely by a viewer, the Wedbush Morgan analyst said in his GameTrailers show Pach-Attack: “The reason that you’re saying that it’s premature, I think you’re really trying to suggest that it’s not going to sell well.

Serious question..Has he ever been right about Nintendo?

Since always the oppsoite happens of what he says, Wii U will sell more than Wii confirmed.

Almost in the same sentence, lol.

Agreed. They'll be $12 each and SSBM will be available at launch, I think. I believe their VC prices will be slightly retooled as well.

NES- $4
Megadrive- $4
SNES- $6
Genesis- $6
N64- $8
GCN- $12

Megadrive = Genesis =/= Master System (II)

exactly. that camera is just so piss bad.

I wonder what deserted warehouse Nintendo found it from :p

Joking aside, from the video chat portion of the E3 Wii U trailer, the camera seems ok. Not amazing but it does its job and doesn't make us puke like the 3DS one does. Anyone care to venture what's the camera rez? 480p?

The same deserted warehouse that Sony got it's cameras for the Vita.

Seriously 0.3 MP cameras need to die. FAST!
I don't care if they're cheap, they aren't worth including at all.

A 1MP camera is the bare minimum in this day and age. It's not even the resolution itself, but 0.3MP camera sensors are simply garbage when it comes to bleedouts, contrast, bloom, and noise.

Agreed. Why even bother?

And speaking of not bothering, I just went into the uPad resolution thread for the first time in a few days.. good god!

Out of curiosity, and being European, I searched on google maps Nintendo America headquarters and I was amazed when I saw where the headquarters is located ...

In Spain we have an expression: Meterse en la boca del lobo. I don't know if in english has the same meaning: On the wolf´s mouth.

I can not believe how surronded they are XD

lol I stopped going in there early on, they don't listen to simple reason... The fact is, it has many time the DPI of any living room TV, so unless you are sitting 15ft+ away from your tv, the Wii U's pad will probably look better than your TV screen, it really depends on the size of the tv, and the distance you are from both screens, probably ~2ft from the Wii U pad and whatever distance from your TV Screen.

I'm simply amazed since it has a very similar DPI to an Ipad/Ipad2.

I'm simply amazed at the double standards in that topic.

so Ipad 2's rez is fine while Nintendo's uPad somehow is inferior, even with all the extra button inputs and stylus advantages. uh huh.

People have simply no idea about what PPI even does to an image. Hell some people there think they can even spot a single pixel on a device that has a PPI of 150+ from a normal viewing angle or distance.

What's more important is if they will provide the screen with a decent backlight matrix that avoids clouding and the disgusting halos that can be seen in some of the pics taken from the screen.

That, is something I worried about, but I haven't noticed that on a screen like that from nintendo since the GBA SP.

you are doing it wrong, stylus is so old-tech... you can't pinch to zoom with your stylo... multitouch is far superior and nintendo should be terminated for using that old ugly tech...

i'm feeling so dirty for writing that... i think i need to take a long warm shower now :(

It's something that mostly comes into play when viewing at an angle and in a dark room. And it is visible on some of the pics taken, but it might not be visible when viewed with the naked eye.

Another thing: Do we have any information about the black levels and contrast ratio of this screen. With all the idiotic PPI talk, people seem to forget the most important things about an LCD screen.

in the most videos the blacks look a bit grey-ish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGqylVq9YHk

but hard to tell of some stupid YT videos.
but also my guess would be that the controllers they showed off at the demo stations, were very early builds.

Those tablets we've seen at trade shows so far have been early prototypes. I wouldn't base too many conclusions about quality on them.

Fixed. It's just not physically possible to judge the quality of a screen by any other means than viewing it in person. There are too many layers of abstraction when viewing a video like that. First the colour rebalance of the camera sensor, then the colour rebalance of the compression, then the colour rebalance of your own monitor.

Edit: Well I guess we can safely say from that video that the controllers screen does not achieve the same black levels as the TV behind it. No surprise there. However the chasm between the controller and the TV is very likely being exaggerated by the camera sensor. Since the whole frame is very dark the camera has switched to a low light mode, squashing the colour space into the darker end of the spectrum and increasing the grey resolution.

speaking of mock-ups, anyone still have that Zelda edition WU one we had a few threads ago? meant to save that one.

those were no mock ups.... ah well they were but official ones by nintendo. DAT STAR!

EDIT: i always wondered why the start controller looks so fucked up. frisbee controller with a win button?

Nope, they'll just directly convert points to dollars. NES games are also $5 on 3DS VC.

I expect GCN @ $15, DC @ $12 and Saturn @ $10.

Serious response:

he's saying that it's an Xbox360 in terms of graphics, but also that he doesn't know Wii U specs
he's saying that it has the same controlo scheme of Xbox360 (...)
he's saying that it will not sell because too expansive, but also that he doesn't know the price

Should I add somethin else to my reply? :D

the thread's just flame and troll bait, guys. don't put yourself through such things if you can't stand it.

and have we ever discussed why Nintendo gets so much hate, especially in the media? I mean what's the root of hatred for it? Its success through motion controls? Its success through decades-old "kiddy" IPs like Mario and Pokemon? It's cool to hate on Nintendo?
Reggie farted in the elevator once? :p
Can anyone pinpoint the reason why people do this?

I gather. with the huge worldwide success of PlayStation and PS2, a generation - or even more than one - of gamers who started playing videogames with Sony's consoles has been brought up in years.

Sony's consoles - and Xboxes as well - have been marketed to teen-agers - who at that age feel the need to be regarded as "grown-ups" and are often attracted from all controversial issues such as violence and explicit sex references - as being more "adult" and "serious" - whatever this is supposed to mean - than its competitors, and this has perhaps brought in years to some kind of bias towards Nintendo being regarded as "kiddy".

On the other hand Nintendo's philosophy has been always that of providing fun with games that can appeal to all ages, and they're not going to lose their most valuable assets that easily getting rid of Mario, Donkey Kong and Pokemon, so this issue is not easy to be solved despite the efforts they have been putting in this direction.

Mainly, about how fast this thread is growing in absence of any kind of news.

If we actually get any news there won't be a lot of talk in here about it right away, since most the discussions would happen in a dedicated thread. I guess people would come back here it to break it down.

I've lost hope for any news now. We won't get any announcements that would excite me right away, becauae we won't get any game announcments or screenshots of the UI or the redesigned system. :(

Funny thing is, you go on Live and hear all of these little pipsqueaky voices..

When I lined-up for my Wii pre-order, I was 28 and I was about average age-wise for the folks in line. We got to talking as the hours passed, and it turns-put that these folks in line were mainly there for themselves - not buying the console for their kids.

I always laugh at this "mature" issue. It's all you can do.

I think New Super Mario mii will be bundled with the console.

I'm now torn. It'd definitely be a safe move, especially when appealing to gift-givers. And it could show what the pad and the console is capable of, features-wise.

But Nintendo would be leaving a lot of money on the table by not selling it separately. The attach rate would be pretty good.
