You'd think for a company that likes to talk up it's female employment ratio that Nintendo would take more effort in creating more prominent female protagonists/playable characters in their games.

Glass Fleet: The Legend of the Wind of the Universe 14

welp, only Glass Fleet could have
a serious take on rape and jokes about rape in the very same episode. jesus christ.

The galaxy in revolution. Renaissance.

Boring last week for sales. Next week should be more interesting.
holy shit at spirited away's numbers.

edit: i just noticed ghibli's taking 5 of the top 10 weekly dvd sale slots. goddamn

Def. She'd make an awesome addition to the cast. TP spoilers:
full-formed, however. They'd probably make it a transformation ala Zelda-> Sheik though, and I'd be cool with that.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see SS Zelda in as a separate from OoT Zelda, much like they did WW Link to TP Link in Brawl.

I don't know, True Midna might be too awesome for SSB... do you think they'd actually do it?
That certainly would be great to see though, yeah. All they'd need is an excuse to bring her back, and a fighting style for her.
Would it be similar to the arms she uses in imp form, or something else? On another note though, she is pretty scantily clad (skirt, cloak, and nothing else) and attractive... they have female characters like that in Zelda games, but not SSB ones. Of course imp Midna isn't wearing anything, but in that form few people care, I think.

The cool Digimon movies, One Piece 6, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Furry Wars and that other movie about furries that's gonna come out this year.

Ah, then I see what you mean. Maybe so... :lol

Tthough if he did The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, he seems more open to major female characters than Sakurai...

You'd think for a company that likes to talk up it's female employment ratio that Nintendo would take more effort in creating more prominent female protagonists/playable characters in their games.

They did, though. Remember that female staff-led clothing store/dressup game for the DS that I think got a sequel of sorts on the 3DS? That's their idea of a game for girls.

As for stuff like Mario, adventure games are for boys, you know.

The amount of voice talent associated with Infinite Stratos is actually quite impressive. Kana Hnnnnnghzawa actually has the weakest singing voice of all Ichika's waifus.

Super Stream Live (from the IS Live event)

Yoko Hikasa stands out as having by far the strongest singing voice, followed closely by Marina Inoue's deep baritone, Asami Shimoda (singing with her voice, not Rin's or Ami/Mami's), and Yukana. Poor Hnnnnghzawa sounds quite weak in this talented ensemble.

I'm actually kinda sad there won't be any more seasons of IS. It's the worst show I've ever really enjoyed, the dumbest show I've ever enjoyed, but that doesn't detract from the fact that I ultimately did come to really enjoy it.

Kana's role as Charles wasn't to be a loud character. she merely had to channel her light, innocent, adorable voice and created a legend.

I don't dislike Fam, she is extremely optimistic and cheerful, but she's not too annoying really... but yes, the show does have massive tone dissonance between Fam and the main plot. She's super optimistic, while it's quite depressing. The original season isn't quite as bad with this, as I said; while not exactly cheerful the tone and body count are not as depressing and high as Fam's is, and while Claude isn't a brooding depressed guy (it's Lavie who goes through a bout of that), he's not Fam-cheerful either. Also the villains' motivations make a bit more sense in the first series -- sure, the Guild aren't nice people, and their motivations are somewhat similar to the villains in Fam's, but their actions are somewhat different in some ways that matters (
they aren't trying to commit genocide, as far as I can remember
). As we both agree, the attempts in Fam to justify the villains' cartoonishly Air Nazi actions just do not work compared to the horror of what they have done,
and I just can't believe that Liliana would accept it. "I need to commit genocide against returners like your nation because there aren't enough resources on Earth to go around, and if you kill me it'll divide this nation in a bloody civil war" "Okay, I'm up with that, I care for you now!"
... Okay, that's not exactly what they said, but that's the general idea, isn't it? And it's stupid. What about, like,
telling them that, and trying to convince some to return to their hourglass worlds or something? I don't know, it could happen!
But he doesn't even tell them his issue, he just starts murdering them.

So yeah, I'm sad that she's dead, but it's entirely her own dumb fault.

Apart from that, I still think that Fam is overall about as good a lead as Claus is, though; sure, some people may find her more annoying thanks to the cheerfulness, but I do like that the harem element of the first series doesn't really exist this time (unless you'd say that there's a yuri harem here? I don't thnk it's quite as clear as the harem element was in the first show though.).

I can't really compare this to the last series, since I haven't seen it, but I still think you can put it up against Sora no Woto.

Thematically, they're about the same thing - the lengths we will go to save humanity - and they also have the same genki optimist who is the audience's "eyes" into this mysterious world.

Sora no Woto just handles it all better, even if some of the individual episodes were rather silly (the phone episode and the drunk episode being the two stand out examples of anime-isms in an anime). The villains have motivations but are still villains, the main characters get to be resolute in their beliefs without being made to look stupid because of them, and of course, they were able to tell basically the same story in 12/14 episodes instead of the 25 that this show will take.

At least it's almost over!

Things proven by this episode:
- Hidenori belongs to the Literature Girl and nobody else
- Habara is the strongest (not like that needed proving)
- Ringo-chan is the cutest (ditto)

A few good bits, but this show is unfortunately leaving on a weaker note for me. Hopefully the last episode can recapture some of the glory.

Watching anime can take effort, searching for anime dubstep on youtube does not...

here's one for Pizzaroll:
Ghost in the Shell

I'm also starting to notice it creeping into official albums, both the Penguindrum OP single and the No. 6 (don't judge me) OP single have a dubstepish mix. I haven't found one for this season though as none of the shows I've watched have had good enough OPs to check out the singles for.

edit: Actually disregard what I said about effort, like anything anime related on youtube searching for dubstep means having to sift though 1000s of bad AMVs.

About 2 of the skits were a bit lacking but when it was on song, it was on song.

And let us remember there's only one true Literature girl, and who the strongest funky girl is.

Man I hope Gintama is just moving timeslots or something, because I'm going to be bereft of near surefire comedy from next week onwards. ;_;

Just made this:

headtiltsqxy54.gif

Lovely, she's really nice.

Kid Icarus Thanatos Rising 2/3

Well the visuals were really nice when Pit was flying and stuff and Thanatos has a blog? Paulutena is seemingly the highlight in these and in Medusa's Revenge p1 at least. This was fun and in 3D some scenes were really nice.

Kid Icarus Medusa's Revenge p1

I think I like this graphic style the best, at least for Pit, looks way cooler than he did in Thanatos. The graphics style really came to life in 3D though.

They say in the very episode they totally ran out of source material again, so it's defintely stopping :/

Okay, you really have to stop gif spamming. I've deleted all the images from your post because it crosses the line. This is not a website, this is a discussion forum.

I don't care how cute anything is. Image spamming is annoying. If you want to look at a wall of images go to one of those sites which offer that service.

There is nothing arbitrary about drawing comparisons between works within the same medium. To seal off a work from the rest of the world when creative works of all types are so reliant on intertextuality just seems short sighted to me. Reflection on the work offers an innumerable number of ways to quantify your reaction to it. That's pretty much what this whole thread is, reactions to episodes that evaluate and compare. If you are unable to quantify your reaction in relation to the impression left by other works you probably just aren't trying.
Well, I didn't said works can't be comparable, and that have to be seal off either. I say a general sentiment towards those works is normal, and think some aspects of said works can be comparable on a individual basis, how those affront a determined situation or nuance presented similarly on them. But... how you can make a global calculation from, as you said, those innumerable number of ways to quantify a reaction to a specific work? I'd have said innumerable ways to react to it, as well.

From a series, or film, or short film I see a vast amount of little details that make a whole experience, and that depends on the viewer, the subject (with its different moods, acquired knowledge throughout his life, and all that), that will probably focus on different things with each viewing, and will be differently receptive of said experience and each little detail of it from time to time. An abstract approach that I think makes unstable any kind of objective quantification.

Now stop it /XX/, you know how I get when you talk this way, all reasonable and stuff.
You said that, but in a later post you made a better explanation of your position! I should be the one aroused...

Ah, makes sense that many of the sponsors are usually music companies like Sony.
In fact, for production companies one of the biggest players right now is Aniplex Inc., that is strictly dependent (read subsidiary) of Sony Music Entertainment Japan Inc., operated independently from the parent company.

Gintama 251

Is it just me or has there been a Dragonball reference in nearly all of the last 20 episodes or so?

This also semi-confirms my suspicions that Sorachi has no idea what actually happened during the war and will just wing it if/when he finally decides to do Gintoki's back story.

Sorachi does like his dragon balls.

I believe he has ideas for Gintoki's past and the Joi war. It would be impossible for an author not to run those thoughts. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he never prints them.

BTW, Sarachi made a cameo.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) 1-13
It's been a while since I watched any Shana, but this is much better than I remember the 2nd season being. No filler or dumb never-ending love triangle, it's fast paced with a bunch of action and stuff happening.
I like how after like 3 cours of that love triangle, Kazumi gets rejected in an offhand way in a short scene. Some flame haze need to start dying though, it's a bit silly how they are all coming away unscathed.

Precure Smile 01

HOLY SHIT.

This is hnnng as fuck.
Right from the beginning this show doesn't mess around. the little magical mascot Candy comes to the MC in a flying book within a minute of the show.

Miyuki Hoshizora is happy. Like really happy. Infectiously super saccharine happy. I like these kinds of characters. So we see her doing the whole school introduction thing and we see several students. Any bets on how many are future Precures?

an
evil anthro named Wolfram
apparently (also the name of a custom car that some baka gaijin built) is making a mess of things and wants to ruin
Candy's
shit. Well Miyuki Hoshizora will not stand for this because it's like, totally NOT HAPPY. So fuck that monster. She is transformed in Cure Happy and I hnnnng like crazy.
Wolfram summons a giant house monster which is promptly dispatched by Precure Happy
. She's pretty damned powerful yeah.

Ok So I'm sold. HOOK THIS TO MY VEINS.

I eagerly await more hnnng in the next episode. Probably a new Precure as well.

Each of the first five episodes
introduces a new Precure, since there's 5 total in Smile.

Hm...? According to the Tv Tokyo site, next week isn't the final Gintama' episode. There's no "End" mark, unlike in the description of the Bleach episode airing in the same week.

http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/program/detail/21622_201203261800.html

On the other hand, there's also nothing announced about where Gintama could go afterwards... The way they're handling this is pretty odd...

since there's
5 total
in Smile.

We're almost guaranteed to get more Cures later on... Just look at the colored gems in their transformation. There are still two without owners.

So which Anime are the good ones this season? I keep reading the thread, and apparantly people like Another and Daily life of High School.

The Light of El Cantare
Anyone else not hating the whole 3D anime thing?

Wait. This is animated in 3D? Does it just look like a pop-up book?

I-it's not like I made these because I c-care or anything... BAKA!

This short is so much better as a series of gifs. At least we're spared the terrible VA this way.

Lyndis is the best Nintendo female.

Total agreement, however a case can be made for others. SS Zelda shot up my list pretty quickly.

You're going to die of moe by the end of the fifth episode. I hope you have all of your affairs in order.

Ano Natsu and Moretsu Pirates are the best new series, if you like Natsume there's the fourth season for that as well.

Another is fun in the same way Final Destination movies are fun. I'm disappointed by the lack of Rube Goldberg machine deaths in Another though. Daily Lives is just hilarious. Together these shows make a pretty good season for comedies.
