Be extremely surprised if he shows up at the Chinese GP.
Jake/DC did strongly imply he'd be there right at the end of the last F1 Forum. Someone should be able to transcribe the words for those not able to watch it.

They definetly said Eddie will be in China.

Suprised I'm in the top 10, usually when I'm reading the forum during non race weeks I don't post much, mainly because someone else has already said what I was going to say. And of course, the F1 thread isn't the only sports thread I follow and post gifs for.

So, stepped noses be gone by the Spanish GP? Don't they have to rebuild the chassis to accommodate for the angled nose?

Yes, to get rid of the stepped nose the whole front of the chassis will need to drop in height by about 55mm, which would require re-homologisation.

I don't think we'll see many teams making the switch straight away though. It would not fit with the fundamental aero design of the car. Until they can update other parts then removing the stepped nose will be just as likely to lose them performance that it is to gain some.

Much like last year, this years big developments will be related to the EBD.

Webber's BBC blog is up: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/17531703

Where'd that speculation come from?

I haven't seen this speculation anywhere, do you have a link to the story?

That's just my speculation.

Thanks for the clarification. Do you think most of the McLaren pace comes from their nose?

There were rumors of Ferrari working on an all-new car which would require new crash testing of the chassis. I wonder if they would do away with the stepped nose and take the McLaren approach. Also, a new chassis would allow them to explore a Merc-type F-duct.

Hard to say for sure. But even without it their car would be very good.

Each individual part of the car has a small effect, it's only when the car as a whole is working well together that the true performance comes out.

Yeah, just read about those rumours.

It appears the exhaust position on their current car – the so-called ‘Acer ducts’ – needs to be changed in order to better seal the diffuser.

Ferrari will likely move the exhausts forward to allow more space to shape the airflow towards the floor. This would mean a change to the side-impact structure and therefore a new crash test.

They probably will copy McLaren if the rumours of a F2012b chassis are true.

It wouldn't instantly make them competitive with McLaren though. MRL have been using a low chassis for a while now so the design would be pretty well optimised. Ferrari would have some teething problems with the design of a new chassis to overcome before reaping instant benefits.

Because Perez gave them the finger and said come back when you have a better car than Sauber.

Obviously that won't happen.

Red Bull find fault with Formula One cost-cutting measures
• Red Bull against idea of the FIA policing finance and personnel
• Christian Horner says there are better ways of controlling costs
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/mar/28/red-bull-fl-cost-cutting

The Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, is refusing to sign off on the latest range of cost-control suggestions in Formula One, believing there are flaws behind the ideas.

So far 10 of the 12 teams have signed a copy of a letter to the FIA regarding cost-cutting and policing of the current resource restriction agreement.

The RRA was implemented a few years ago to help teams save money and cope financially with the then spiralling costs of competing in F1.

Many of the measures have been successful, but there is an appreciation that far more needs to be done if teams are to avoid the possibility of going out of business.

One of the suggestions is that FIA should oversee matters in particular areas such as finances and personnel. However, Red Bull and Toro Rosso have so far opted not to put pen to paper on the relevant letter.

...

The McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, concedes he "can relate to everything" Horner says. But looking at the bigger picture he said: "The fact is, at the moment, we all know there are Formula One teams struggling to survive. That tells us we're not doing enough, and that's why we've got to keep pushing."

The Ferrari team principal, Stefano Domenicali, believes "self-interest" needs to be put to one side for the sake of the sport. "We know the situation in Formula One is not so stable," said Domenicali. "We know there are a lot of struggles around, so we need to look ahead to make sure we are all competing in Formula One."

I believe horners approach to a money cap is spending everything you have so you cant spend any more, thus solving the teams spending money problem.

It's nice how horner tries to portray RBR as a poor little indy team when they are one of if not the worst for throwing hundreds of millions at everything thanks to red bull one of the biggest multi billion companies in the world.

Also 'LOL' at ferraris comments on self-interest when they are paid a fortune for simply turning up that no other team gets.

I don't know how any of that works. Who is to say that Red Bull couldn't have a team of aerodynamicists for their aeroplane races... but they're actually working on wind tunnel stuff for F1.

Same for Ferrari having their car engine team working on the F1 engines.

NK should just stop racing, what an idiot.

Vettel said 1 line, it was def not acting like a cry baby.

Anyway lets see if vettel can make the best of the situation and rebound next race.

would love to see him win in china, but mclaren are incredibly fast.

Just wanted to quote this again because it's hilarious.

This is what separates the real fanboys from those of us who post about Webber etc.

That's why it won't work. That is unless the FIA want to employ an army of auditors and inspectors.

Yeah...seems counter productive all these cost-cutting measures...I mean I like the idea of a ceiling to get new teams and keep existing teams running but I mean really F1 should still be at the forefront of technology and racing advancement...

An excerpt from Mark Webber's BBC column:

The canopies make it a bit easier for the guys working in the cockpit environment, or with electrical equipment, to escape what is literally like having a shower.

Even so, the radios in both our cars did not work properly for the rest of the race and we had to resort to the old-fashioned means of communication with pit-boards.

I ended up ripping my radio connection out of my helmet because it was just getting too distracting.

That's quite a big call, because you know once you've done that you're never going to get it back again.

I had to do it, though. I was getting squawking and static in my ears, which changed depending on which corner I was in. It was really loud, too.

I dont think so, you guys are obviously obsessed with webber. I could totally see you guys having wet dreams about webber lol.

any way i dont think im acting like a fanboy im just entitled to my opinion.

in my opinion HK job when the blue flags are waving is to GTFO of the way of the leaders in the race.

its not enough you got guys acing lap after lap to shrink the gap to the car in front, they have to worry about back markers not getting out of the way as well.

I remember in monaco vettel alonso and button were almost knocked out of the grand prix because of back markers.

i do agree that vettel could have handled it a bit more classy. I just think he was frustrated in the car and lost his temper.

i think this season will be a nice year for him to work on his character. He cant expect to get it for free. i wanna see him fight for it.

looooove this community btw.

Sounds like me from last year. Drastically toned down how much I post in this thread now, I'm sure to some peoples relief.

hell no you should post more.

Oh, I do. He's firmly in the wank bank, as well.

But I'm still not nearly as obsessed with him as you with Vettel. We post ironically with self-awareness most of the time, you don't. That's the difference! ;)

Does anyone know what exactly are these cost cutting measures?

I mean, we all know the teams will spend all they can and then some more, but I always enjoy seeing how FIA pretends not to realize this.

woow! I'm impressed!

this thread is moving really fast, could we say this is the most successful F1 thread to date?

anyway, been away for so many reasons

1) wife's birthday
2) my birthday
3) trying to recover from both

Cheers guys! China can't come any faster!

We'll need a second OT by Silverstone at this rate.
