Nah, not the case at all. Success is the hardest thing to predict, because it's independent of actual quality, or merits, or even fanservice.

I stand corrected.

But does this mean DxD had some sort of redeeming... quality?

some thoughts on film.

The thing that really bothered me about the film when I first watched it (Yes, I went back and watched it again) was the feeling that it gave me. The art is so textured and dirty that watching the horrific things that happen genuinely feel discomfiting (Other movies/shows/ovas have done this as well).

There are movies out there that are just about the violence and suffering, but something is different about Midori. It doesn't necessarily have a more of a reasoning behind just that; for example,
the introduction of the puppies is ONLY to kill them
. But the terrible and vile nature of the work feels more like something that was done from the creators point of view than to appease a violence craving audience. I never looked away, like cajun mentioned, most of us are pretty desensitized; however, I did react to the images, something I assume was the intention all along. I do feel that the movie gave me some sort of insight into that style of art, and that the work of Suehiro Maruo can be appreciated for what it is.

Since people seem to be taking up a morbid curiosity for it, I would also recommend they check out some of the history behind it. The whole screening process (Icarus might have already mentioned it) is crazy in its own way.

Again, what did you expect? :p

(Not every show can be AnoNatsu!)

What I was expecting from this show was more hn[censored] and h[censored]azawa and chibi hn[censored] mode, Sugita's S & [censored] and wat[censored]anuki teasing, basically everything from episode 1 - 9, only really went all rom(com?) on my ass in the last episode, tbh the series started to peter out towards the end from ep 10 onwards.

Hey, it gave you fan service for 9 episodes at least! Even fan service needs plot eventually!

It was way too obvious who the informant was, and they went to great lengths to make sure someone watching wouldn't miss it.

For Inu x Boku SS... um, if that's about the leads, isn't she in high school? That makes her too old for it to be either loli or pedo, for sure. Creepy maybe if he's a lot older, but not those.

Those numbers are pretty sad, considering that R-15 is like fifty times better of Maken-Ki...

Hidamari Sketch 1

Starting with the OP, really digging the art style. As for the content, I didn't know it would be so sweeet.

I now am getting introduced to the true potential power of anime wideface.
Little touches such as "SONY --> PONY" on the television set.
Adorable.

*defilibrates self*

The simple color transitions, ranging from hot pink, dark blue, yellow, orange, etc. is quite a treat for the eyes, holding my attention. Yet, some of the simple transitions are a tad too jumpy at times. The photo tackboard visuals with the introduction audio between
the new and old residents
was well put.

Anyways, cuter than even the wonzo gifs led me to believe. It'll make for a good show to watch in between other shows in my backlog.

Know why I love the Power Glove?

Yeah Hidamari is some adorable stuff. enjoy. There are several seasons of Shaftiness.
Just take a break if you feel your heart exploding.

Just noticed the Cowboy Bebop reference in the title, but saw nothing in the OP. Have I been led astray, or is there actually something new in the CB world?

This is going to happen all season long. Not that I mind the new faces in here inquiring, because it can lead to new anime discoveries and discussion, but shouldn't we make the thread title less misleading?

censoring the phrase is just not the same :( We may as well drop it altogether.
then again, I read posts like this with the "beep" sound of a censor and it's pretty funny.

I would not dare attempt to watch things in the Cute King's personal collection of cute!

I lack the yeas of training and expertise!

If you want to feed your sugar rush I have a ton of recommendations so feel free to ask!

Wow, interesting read. Quite the vision to fight so hard for, but again, I'm not the artist. The set up (that icarus spoke of before) specifically is quite something. The lengths that some artists will go to ensure their work is viewed exactly the way they desire it; quite a passionate showing.

After Sketch, I will! I need that type of stuff to watch time to time.

If plot means 2 whole episodes dedicated to Ririchiyo asking Miketsuki to tea (1 episode) and then her proceeding to fret over tea time (another whole episode), then no thanks I've got slowjo's for this.

Running total of people who thought we were getting new Bebop: 3

Sorry guys! I'm just a casual anime watcher, only really catch a few series/movies a year, but I don't think anything will ever be as great as CB, the one that popped my cherry.

Honestly, I check out the OP every season, but it's usually so.. dense, that it feels overwhelming. Ever consider a section that puts forward the more anime-newbie friendly series? I.e. nothing that has previous seasons, or relies too heavily on anime tropes and in-jokes.

supernatural
! Maybe she's hundreds of years old!

Yeah, that's totally BS but I have seen it used as an excuse.
Still, the show is cute as fuck and I'm gonna finish watching it eventually.

I'm trying to set up my MAL account to help me out with where I am at with different series and such.

As I said, she's at least 15 presuming she's of human age, and is probably 16+... that's too old to be pedo or loli.

To be fair, we don't know how anime-newbie friendly a series is; until the day it airs.:p although I assume apollon and lupin the third this season will be safe bets to watch.

Honestly, Ririchiyo herself doesn't look too young or anything but I was referring to the rather devious practice of trying to make love interests out of little girls in anime based on the premise that they are actually much older witches or vampires or whatever. Its a flimsy excuse that shows like Dance in the Vampire Bund use to alarming effect.

At first this episode seemed like an excuse for some of the series' more blatant fanservice (like that costume and tail Sherlock wears...), but that ending
who the prince confesses to, of course I mean
... I mentioned it before, but yeah, it was hilarious and really made the episode. It's good stuff, and the message is actually decent too.

The whipping part had my stomach hurting in laughter.

NYA! NYA! NYA! NYA!

Gah... Twenty is so messed up, and yet... yeah, he is funny for sure.

Can't get enough, "LOOK AT MEEEEE~!"

Kokoro, on the other hand, is funny for reasons much more like Milky Holmes -- her cute idiocy. That IQ of hers -- keep listening to the numbers she gives as the series progresses... :lol :lol
Also, as a police officer, I'd think she'd have returned that valuable historical relic (that mask) by now... but no, she keeps it.
Still has it, too.

Ha! Let me guess, she keeps it for season 2! :D
I noticed the numbers thing too, at one point she said "13 billion I.Q." or something like that. Oh Kokoro, may you hit the trillions!

That's the episode where they go into that alternate world, or dream, or whatever, right? That was a kind of weird one, I think...

Yeah, it wasn't the best. It was okay though.

I agree that that premise is stupid, but it's not a new idea, either -- Tenchi Muyo uses it, for example. Ayeka and Sasami are thousands of years old!

In this case though, while there certainly is an age gap, it's not as creepy as a lot of them are... she's not a little kid.

Might help me get a better idea of what else you might like watching.

Whoever makes the OT usually prioritizes the shows that are worth watching anyway, so at least the first part of the first post is useful sometimes.

Even though there are "only" like twenty shows per season now, I can see how it can be overwhelming if you don't want to wade through the mess of AKB48 and the like.

I thought it was her first year in highschool she kept monologuing her time in middle school and how she wants to change, and Miketsukami has 7 years on her.

Recorder and Ransel 13 END

so that's three (maybe four???) episodes that didn't rely on the same shitty gag. i still can't get over the fact that this is getting a second season.

Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong :) Our intent with the thread title is to get Cowboy Bebop fans in here because Watanabe-directed anime are a once-in-a-decade event and we want to generate interest in Apollon/Kids on the Slope.

The seasonal OPs try to have the premises for each new series laid out as understandably as possible, though that should never discourage anyone from asking for recommendations in here if they have specific criteria for what they want to watch.

If you're looking for series that are non-sequels, light on otaku tropes, and generally newbie-friendly, I'd probably recommend the following from Spring:

Sakamichi no Apollon
Tsuritama
Uchuu Kyoudai
Zetman
Jormungand

I'd also recommend Fate/Zero even though it's technically the second half the series. The first half aired in October '11 - January '12 for 13 episodes and wouldn't be difficult to catch up on if the premise interests you. Hope this helps!

But Dance has a good enough plot reason to have Mina appear like a young girl
she isn't neither physically nor age wise, she's just faking it to not have to submit herself to the royalty vampires to become their baby maker.

I realize now after some of the other posts that they are listed in roughly the order they would be recommended. Don't think I'm ungrateful, btw, I know you probably put in a ton of time on the OP.

True!

What other anime have you enjoyed besides Bebop?

Might help me get a better idea of what else you might like watching.

My absolute favorites: Cowboy Bebop, Planetes, Eureka 7, Last Exile. Other ones I enjoyed, no particular order: Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Code Geass, FMP, Gundam MS 008th Squad, FMA: Brotherhood, Eden of the East, Lupin, Shin Chan(does that count?). There's probably a lot I'm forgetting right now. I've watched nearly everything on Netflix to some degree. You may notice I trend towards things I can watch dubbed, as I'm usually too busy to watch/acquire subs. I'll still go out of my way for a really good subbed anime though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it myself, but you, you on dat!

First, it's a relatively rare occasion when we get a long-running adaptation of a seinen manga. That alone is enough to peak my interest. Then we have the premise: a 32-year man, fired from his company after a violent confrontation with his boss, decides to throw caution to the wind. He returns to the childhood dream of venturing into space he had forged with his brother but later abandoned, and starts out on a journey to become an astronaut. Inspiring stuff. I've heard fantastic things about the manga from those who have read it, and watching the live-action film trailer, which shows a little more than the anime trailer, got me really excited for the possibilities of realizing this story in animation.

Ayamu Watanabe has a good reputation from the work he's done on Doraemon (I intend to watch his film Nobita's Dinosaur 2006 tonight or tomorrow to get me hyped for his upcoming shows), and A-1 Pictures is a generally reliable studio as far as production values go. So I have faith that the staff will be able to put a good effort into the show. There's no telling how things will go until it airs, but I am quite hopeful.

You're going to make me recall stuff I rather not. IIRC, he was for a spell when she was MoeHilda (Which was blasphemy, no less, and an utter defamation of her good name. Let it be known that his aligning with it is being written from the books as a gesture of good-will.)

Get on my level, Solune. My taste in waifus is impeccable.

I cannot speak on dresden's behalf but you should not relinquish his bro status for that, because it only makes sense.

And we can't have good taste all the time.

Also I don't see Irresponsible Captain Tylor on that list.

Also if you liked Trigun, you might like Desert Punk.

I believe I have Vandread, but never got around to it, and I'm honestly not even sure what Nadesico or the Captain Tylor ones are, but I'll check up on them. I have watched some of Desert Punk, and it was enjoyable, but didn't really hook me. I can always give it another try on Netflix.

I think my issue with Vandred was that it looked like a harem anime, albeit in space. Not a huge fan of the harem genre of anime.

Edit:

Ok, Irresponsible Captain Tylor looks great, so I'll check that out for sure. Nadesico seems to be another harem-in-space thing though, so I'll probably skip that for now.

Anyway, I really tired of the god damned

any responsibility whatsoever because it was all a cunning plan to foist the blame onto himself!
You know what? Screw that shit. What was once an interesting "Twilight Zone-y" ending has turned into self-serious pablum science fiction junk to have everyone be considered

.

The fact that Fam calls Luscinia out on his

is infuriating if only because he succeeds anyway. God damn... this really was Sora no Woto-lite.

That said, it STILL manages to have a better ending than Mass Effect 3. Go figure.
