I hope phones with stylii actually have good, working hardware and software. The stylus implementation isn't good enough. I could never replace a notepad with it.

What do you mean by good enough? It's the same wacom stylus technology that artists are using to replace their pens and sketchbooks. The hardware and software of the galaxy note does leave a lot to be desired though. I'm holding out for a 6"—7.7" Galaxy Note tablet (with phone functionality) running ICS or better.

That article says 720p is expected. The BGR rumor said 1080p heh.

Any chance that the Galaxy S III includes the smartpen screen tech (even if it doesn't have a slot for the stylus—similar to the 10.1 Galaxy Note)?

I would think, given the Nexus, Note, and Skyrocket HD, that 720p is pretty much a given. What I'm wondering is if the GSIII will up the ante and do a HD SAMOLED+ screen. I've never been bothered by pentile screens, personally, but obviously a normal RGB arrangement would be nice to have.

I'll eat my non-existent hat if anything in the next six months is higher than 720p.
Anything higher than 720p on a phone seems really pointless at the moment. Would probably run into all sorts of compatibility problems with games too.

I'm not even unhappy with my Nexus One's screen. When I upgrade (hopefully S3) it will be mindblowing for me.

If anything, the maximum resolution I can see is either 1280*800, or if they're smart, 1380*720 (or whatever) such that when you display the soft buttons it leaves the 720p viewable.

If they do leapfrog to 1080p it would probably still be pentile matrix. I suppose it doesnt bother me though anymore at this sort of density. I could possibly see 720p at RGBG though. Its not likely to launch until near June. I could see that being long enough for them to puuuuuuuuuuush and manage to yield that res. The only way they could blow me away with the screen tech after I have seen that gorgeous LCD2 would be a 1080P AMOLED with an RGBG layout. That shit would blow my mind, and if they squeezed it into a 4.7 frame like the One X, they would sell a shitload of them just based on passerbys getting a look at that screen.

Sad though, if they went 1080p, they wouldn't score as well in annnnnnny graphical benchmarks. More pixels to push.

My next phone come July will definitely be either the One X or the GS3. The One X seems like the phone to beat right now though. Definitely interested to see how the GS3 stacks up.

I'm actually interested in the rumored Sony phone coming out this summer. LT29i "Hayabusa" or whatever they are calling it. Supposedly will have the Snapdragon S4, 720p, and launch with ICS (no capacitive touch buttons). I really like the more "premium" look and feel of the Xperia phones over anything from Samsung or HTC.

I don't see how the One X is better than the GN. Someone explain to me.

Read the reviews. Folks are saying the screen is better, camera is better, camera software is better, mountable as USB because of the way the storage is partitioned. I read another review that claims the battery life even outdoes the Nexus (although I have only read that ONE review that claims that).

Consider that the Sprint version is apparently going to have a 2650 mAh battery and LTE and the new Snapdragon, and well.... You would have to ignore the unlockable bootloader, and the ability to load a custom, more vanilla ICS rom on the X, and also weigh the design of the multitasking pane veeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrry heavily to make the case that this couldnt go either way between these two devices.

Its also thin and absolutely gorgeous even though looks don't personally carry alot of weight for me.

Yeah, the LT29i looks like a decent phone, I also wonder what the "Mint" will be, I figure it will be a successor to the Play, maybe the same internals as the Hayabusa with the physical controls of the Play.

I don't know, seeing how most of my Sensation owning friends can't use any non-Sense based ROM due to lack of stability/bugs doesn't instill enough confidence for me to run out and get one over a GN.

Instagram just came out. Get ready for the narcissistic photos to increase exponentially.

How come I can't find it? Don't see it on the phone or through the website.

Am I crazy or do I remember reading that the HTC feature of "take a snapshot while recording" is built into ICS by Google? I could have sworn I read that Google already did that but it doesn't work...

edit: nevermind, found Instagram by going through a news article. Ridiculous that it doesn't show when I search for it..

Yeah, just tap the screen while recording a video. If you mean screenshots, that's power button + volume down.

FYI to any other network admins out there, the new Xoom 4.0.4 release causes the device to send out 30-50 DHCP requests per second flooding the VLAN or network you've got. Blocking the vendor MAC address is the only way to kill the flooding.

Heard it across one of my wires and figured I'd pass it along. Gotta love these ICS updates.... they're so.... special!

hm I didn't try that, kept pressing the record button, which seems dumb now. Why did HTC tout this feature so much if it's built in?

I saw Gruber link to this article and I don't know why this didn't occur to me, with the whole Google Play thing: Google Will Abandon Android

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is slowly a play at the bigger picture. Read the article rather than just that headline btw. I wish for it to come true, google needs to take control and create the brand that they would like to create to make a better overall experience.

Man, I feel like doing nothing with my phone until stock ICS is put on it.

CM 9 is sketchy with all the things that may break features of my phone.

Eh, whole bunch of posturing. I've been saying for a while Google will distance themselves from Android eventually but it hasn't happened yet because Android is so successful, and its most successful days are yet ahead.

From where I stand, Google only released Android (and did so as open source) behind the guise of the Open Handset Alliance. The OHA were supposed to be the stewards of Android. However during the first year none of them really came forward, and the iPhone was taking over, so Google said, "Screw it, we'll take over" and since then Google has played a much larger role in Android and the OHA has basically disappeared into the ether.

I think Google's original plan was to just get something, anything open source out there and on a variety of phones to prevent an iPhone monopoly. When the higher ups saw the potential money in it, and as the OHA failed to really do anything with the platform, they decided to be more invested in it.

Android for Google has always been a means to an end. They needed a mobile platform out there where there wasn't any fear a company could all of a sudden someday decide to cripple their mobile search revenue by changing the default search provider. I believe that Chrome, for Google, represented (and still might) their long-term "platform" strategy. Google hated native apps before Android and I think that sentiment still rings true, but they're doing it for now because it's a good use of their resources. Eventually though, I'm sure Google wants to go back to just an HTML toolchain, and Chrome is the way forward for that.

Finally, I don't believe for a second Google will muddy the waters and call their tablet Google Play. That is the most bunk thing I've read in a while.

Based on a false premise that fragementation means Google has lost control of android.

lt29i hayabusa will be the arc successor. mint will be the same phone but with a different screen size and lte radios.

this info is from an xda forum poster who's been pretty reliable.

must bother google an insane amount to read that the amazon app store makes more money than their own. Or to see that Samsung IS android (basically), not google.

All I'm saying is it's a bit ridiculous to deny that google doesn't feel some sort of need to involve themselves more in their work.

In fairness, even Apple, which makes a lot more from the app store than Google, has said that the revenue from iTunes is basically irrelevant in terms of overall revenue.
