Lotus F1 team committed to name despite end of title sponsor deal:

I dont understand Lotus....
The Lotus name should never have been brought back into F1. The true Lotus died with Colin Chapman many moons ago.

Team Enstone have good personnel and a decent factory so it would make sense for a manufacturer like Audi to take over, rather than starting from scratch.

Genii can rid us of their shabby selves for all I care.

Maybe they bought into Renault just to spite the fake Lotus team (Caterham) & now that thats all sorted they have no reason to stay in F1 :p

They wanted to buy into Gennii's team in the coming years, but Gennii don't like the idea of that anymore, so they told them to get stuffed.

Can't say I'm unhappy with this, I've disliked Group Lotus ever since they started their whole 'lets get into motorsport' campaign since Team Lotus showed up.

Comics, serious business!
At least in F1 the lotus stuff causes confusion and somewhat minor inconveniences.

You should really feel bad for the guys that are running lotus engines in Indy. They are getting royally fucked as lotus cannot provide the proper support.

Just started watching a recording of the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix to get me psyched (though I think I might wait until next Friday before I watch the whole thing, so I don't get too excited).

Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and mention Martin Brundle's amazing introduction that he read out as the final cars were lining up for the start.

"There are 7 billion people in the world, but just 24 Grand Prix drivers. They're lined up in the same 200 meters of tarmac for our entertainment and like bulls, when they see red, they get ready to charge."

Bloody fantastic. I think that quote alone gets me psyched for the next race.

There are some rumours around that Barrichello could replace Massa. It wouldn't be a bad idea by any stretch of the imagination.

Aye, I was reading about that yesterday. I think it's a bit silly as the reason Barichello says he wanted out of ferrari was because he hated playing second fiddle to Schumacher, but doing the same to Alonso would be ok?

Also, it's a bit crappy to the indycar fans for him to basically say "I'd drop this sport in a heartbeat to get back into f1".

Indycar knows it's nothing compared to F1, and Barrichello has repeatedly said he'd go back to F1 with a decent team in a heartbeat. Also I'm sure Barrichello knows he isn't as talented as Alonso and with the old Schumacher-wonder team gone he'd be happy to play second fiddle to Alonso just so he could continue driving.

A bit like De La Rosa, except Reubens more experienced with Ferrari.

To be fair he's probably the best man for the job. He already has past experience with Ferrari, he's without a doubt the most experienced man in the sport at this time and he's a proven consistent, quick driver & racer.

What other options are there?

Heidfeld? Renault and Sauber both replaced him mid-season, he's not Ferrari quality.

Sutil? He's got a criminal record now, his career is as good as over.

Perez? Not this season, it would be a silly move to throw him in the pool before he's proved he can swim.

Bianchi? They could put him in the seat to get some experience, but they'd lose out points on the constructors.

Rubens would be a bad choice in my opinion. He would only be a stop gap for a few seasons before retiring. Plus, he'd still need a few races to get up to speed, and then so will his eventual replacement. I think it would make more sense to bring in their long term replacement for Massa straight away so they can gain experience and then make the most of a decent car as soon as Ferrari have one rather than wasting their first few races learning the ropes.

Bianchi or Perez would be my pick. It's not like the current car has a big chance of winning much at the moment, so they may as well use this as an opportunity to give their next long term driver some experience.

The front and side profiles are really nice. The back is still a bit meh.

The worst part is the lack of a sequential gearbox.

With all due respect I do not think you have any clue what a Viper is all about.

Also, as far as Lotus is concerned. I talked to the rep at the NYIAS and in business terms Lotus is better off than it was before. Not PR speak, actual business sense. Proton was basically government owned and that created a lot of problems. Nobody liked it. Coming from that DRB-Hicom is an improvement. But like everyone says, time will tell.

First in class, sixth overall. He's certainly the best athlete in F1 currently, not even Schumacher and Webber can compare.

We all know Webber trained him.

Not true. Group Lotus have ended their deal early and given up the purchase option.

The truth of the matter is that Lotus has a new controlling shareholder who will have looked at the books and wondered why the hell such a small company, that can only survive thanks to government handouts is spending so much money on motor racing.

Dani Bahar has been living out his little racing fantasy through the wallets of others and it's finally caught up with him.

If anything, it should've stuck with the green and yellow, regardless of on-track performance. Renault pinching the name (I'm not sure of the exact circumstances, so I'm going with "pinching") was fairly shit considering (now) Caterham bared more of a resemblance to the Lotus' of yore.

Also, it's a bit crappy to the indycar fans for him to basically say "I'd drop this sport in a heartbeat to get back into f1".
Who, Americans? Bahahahahaha.

S'what happened with Ricciardo and HRT. And even though it was, quite literally, the worst car on the grid, his experience over Vergne is showing pretty clearly this season IMO. Or maybe he's just leaps and bounds better than him in natural talent. Either/or.

Webber has an entire sporting event named after him. Webber managed to come second even after it was revealed he was driving with a fractured foot or something for the last few weekends of the season. Nobody can compare to Webber. No-one.

It's not crappy to tell the truth.

Looks Japanese. I'd love to know the details behind his affection for Japan, as going by that tattoo, it's not just because of his current missus.

Well he did spend six years driving for a team with Honda engines, three of which were for Honda as a manufacturer. Not hard to connect the dots.

Well obviously there are Japanese connections there, but nothing you'd think would warrant getting a massive, fuck-off Japanese-themed tatt.

Fake edit: I did see this in a random article:
The Englishman, whose girlfriend Jessica Michibata is Japanese, has a great affinity with the country having spent two years with the Honda team and he said: "I have never seen my missus cry at a race before. When she cries it's difficult for me not to but I'm going to try to hold it together.
But yeah, unless something intense happened during those years, I wouldn't think it would have been enough. But maybe he became Buddhist or experienced enlightenment or something.

Love how I can pick which one Crumb is just by his accent :)

Star Trek TNG theme wasn't written specifically for the show? Mind blown.
