The US version isn't even like that. The US version is literally just a normally packaged copy of the game and also the normal packaging for the CC Pro. It's basically just you ordering two different items simultaneously, nothing more. At least that's what their customer support said.

oh, is it red at least?

The CCP bundle controller on Nintendo.com is black I believe. Saw it on the website a few days ago.

Did get both the game and art book at GS. Quite nice.

If in the next 3-4 hours I don't get used to the characters running their mouths every goddamned second in battle, this thing is going on ebay.

I thought it was pretty weird at first but it did grow on me. I do wish they had a wider variety of things to say, but I thought having characters verbally support each other in battle was a really cool idea and something I'd like to see happen more often.

Also, once you start using the battle system to its fullest extent, you'll find that they're pretty useful audio cues for what's going on with your team mates, how they're attacking to support you, and how you can attack to support what they're doing.

In the early game it's not very useful though.

Yes. All these people getting artbooks make me feel bad. I should have just asked and pressed the Gamestop employee. I'm too cynical and just expected I wouldn't get one. :(

Yea, I pre-ordered pretty much day 1 or the first week it was possible and I still had to remind the employee about the bonus. He then checked for it and asked the manager where they were and she said oh they are all gone, they only went to people who pre-ordered early....

I told her I pre-ordered the first week and she ignored me, while the employee helping me called 4 stores to see if others had any extras(which was really nice of him). I asked him if he'd just discount the game a bit and he did. Saved $5, wish it were $10 but whatever. Reminds me why I think Gamestop is garbage.

First time ordering from nintendo.com, also the last time. I'm not in the States and have already played the game in Japanese, but for some reason it really bothers me when online shops don't honor their shipping dates/etc.

Sheesh, I had heard that this game played like a single-player MMO, I didn't realize his much of an MMO it really is. The tutorials even use MMO lingo and the game uses the same symbols as top MMO's. Right from the start you can have your tank pull aggro so your rogue can attack from behind...

I just hope Nintendo honors all preorders through their site.

Of course they will send all their preorders. Why would they do otherwise? You can also buy the game right now on their site as well.

Yeah, the Nintendo store is not the most ideal place to order from. But the only other option was through GS, which is worse.

Gamestop order arrived today. I paid for the cheapest shipping so I was surprised. They shipped it in those weird cardboard flat packs, not the bubble envelopes or boxes. no mangledness. ^^

Yep, mine came in today, too. I was also glad (and surprised) to see they used good packaging!

And the art book is a lot better than I though it would be.

I'm entirely serious when I say...that won't be enough...not even close.

Why not? I beat the game in 39 hours since I got really tired of the sidequests about halfway through. My third playthrough of the game is on track to come in even lower than that.

39? not bad at all. and there's NG+ so i don't think i'll be doing every sidequest on first playthrough as well.

Ja, I didn't expect to see this delivered so soon, but what a pleasant surprise it was! =]
(I opted for the cheapest shipping as well)

The art book was another nice surprise. It is of much better quality than I anticipated . Both items arrived in pristine condition..

Everything went better than expected.

Why do people hate GameStop again?

There is no way a first playthrough is going to clock in at 39 hours. You would have to do almost no sidequests, not explore at all, and know exactly where you need to go for the story at all times. I think playing it that way also really sells its strengths short (like exploring). Regardless though, no one is going to know exactly where to go next for the story on their first run so I don't see 39 hours being achievable at all.

If you already know exactly where to go I can see that number being possible. It is also important to note that if you are playing a run on NG+ you are more powerful than normal and can actually beat it in a lot less time than even 39 hours. That is expressly if you are playing NG+ though. I really don't think in 39 hours most people will even have all the party members yet, much less beat the game.

All right, well it was my first complete playthrough and I did in fact beat it at 39 hours. Before that, I had played up to
Eryth Sea
in the Japanese version before I sold it to a friend. I did not rush, I explored the fields, I just quit caring about completing sidequests at all after a while.

Same here. Everything from the cheap shipping to getting it today.

I think I'll try to do like you did, Aeana. I'll simply rush through the game without doing sidequests at all. My first playthrough lasted over 80 hours and I ended up hating the game because of the dumb fetch/collection quests and the repetitive battle system.

Well, no need to rush. But if you've already beaten it, well, sure I guess. Even on this playthrough, I'm exploring the fields since I like doing that. I'm just not going out of my way to complete a single sidequest. Whatever gets done gets done and that's that. Currently at 5 hours and leaving
Gaur Plains
.

Never trust an Aeana playtime estimate, she's always like two standard deviations below GAF average, god only knows how much faster she is than normal-ass people.

Of course, this is coming from someone who just took 45 hours to beat DQV, so take my slow perspective into account I guess.

I would definitely argue that playing all the way up to where you did on the Japanese copy significantly helped you out in getting done faster. That is essentially half the game in which you already knew what you had to do and where to go. Ie, your first "complete playthrough" wasn't really your first time experiencing a good portion of the game and that time is obviously affected by it.

It's not really half the game and I did more side content in the earlier areas the second time than I did the first, but this is getting off track. I wasn't saying other people were going to beat it in 39 hours, just that you don't need 80+ to finish the game like other people keep saying. I think 50-55 hours is a reasonable expectation for someone who only completes the sidequests that are before them and doesn't go out of his or her way to do it all.

So 39 hours to complete? Wow, I was led to believe this was going to be dumb long. I might be able to see this game to the end now. I love shorter RPGs.

I was going to say the same thing based on her Lets play final fantasy thread. My times are typically in line with the Howlongtobeat.com averages (which started on GAF), and that website is telling me the game is around 55 hours long if you stick to the story quests.

EDIT: The quickest time on Howlongtobeat out of 34 submissions is currently 49.5 hours.

Thanks.

So... there are so many that it becomes overwhelming and the rewards are not worth the risk of getting burn-out?
Most quests that simply ask you to kill or retrieve a certain number of something won't be worth it. Accept them, and just continue on and the odds are good enough that you'll finish them anyway. If someone asks you to find something specific, it's usually a red orb on the field, and those are the ones that generally give the better rewards.

Shit, I'm on my first playthrough and I already don't care about side quests. I pick them up whenever I can and if they get completed as I explore then so be it, but I don't go out of my way. I don't even read the text to know what I'm going after, I just get randomly rewarded whenever I unknowingly complete a task.

...and I'm still completing a lot of them doing it this way. @_@

Is there any way to "program" your companions behavior, or do they just randomly use Arts from their bar? Do they use the ones closer to the middle first?

They use what's on their bar when the situation calls for it. They're generally good enough about it. For example, Reyn will try to use wild down on an enemy who is broken, and things like that.

Just got it in the mail, and I had totally forgotten it was coming out. I have way too many RPG's to play, and only minimal time to play them. Oh, my.

The artbook is a nice touch, although I wish there was more concept art.
